    Would it be a good idea to focus entirely on one element intensely for lets say, 3 months? For instance main skills in a language are writing, listening, reading, and speaking, so if I just focus on listening every single day for the three month period, nothing else, and then next three months swap it out with another one of them? Or train all of them on a daily basis?

    • @ColeLangs
      @ColeLangs  3 роки тому +2

      It really depends on your goals. If I'm not in any particular hurry to speak a language for example then I'll do nothing but listening and reading and that usually works pretty well for me. If only practicing listening is fun for you, then go for it!

    I started learning russian a few weeks ago... it's a little bit similar to german ( my native language ),but at the same time soooo different. But I'm really motivated and despite of being a little bit frustrated at the moment,i try to do a little bit of learning everyday. How long did it take for you to be able to speak a little bit in russian? Honestly,the pronunciation of the letter "e" drives me nuts 😂

    • @ColeLangs
      @ColeLangs  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah russian is really challenging at first! It took me maybe a year and a half of daily practice before I felt comfortable enough to speak with someone and I'm still perfecting my grammar and prepositional usage after 3 years. I'd really encourage you to just keep going and celebrate all the small victories. It's very complicated, but I know that you can do it!

    • @noxy6375

      @@ColeLangs The goal i set myself before I started was to be able to speak after one year. So it's comforting to know that it's realistic. But also if it will take longer, that's absolutely ok for me. Thanks for your answer and keep making videos. They are really motivating for me and I think also for a lot of others too 😊

  • @kalan2674

    What was your favourite resource for learning Russian?

    • @MikkoDaFinlandia
      @MikkoDaFinlandia 3 роки тому

      I made lots of experiments with Russian over the years and I came to the conclusion that 2 things really helped me: learn alphabets by practising the writing of loaned words and then watch lots of (slow) Russian videos with subtitles. There are hundreds of loaned words in Russian e.g. basketboll - баскетбол. Learn writing them in groups by filtering first those having only similar letters (кеаомт), then same sound but different character e.g. l - л and so on. After the character wall is down it's quite easy read Russian although you cannot understand it. Then I would watch videos of Real Russian Club. There are many videos with high quality. Newer videos have double subtitles in the video image track. Older ones have separate subtitles. For me it was helpful to see both Russian and English subtitles which is possible in Chrome with Two Captions for UA-cam & Netflix. I copied the videos to my own playlist to a comfortable order and remove the videos from the playlist after watching them. I also recommend watching videos of Easy Languages Russian but for an absolute beginner I think they are too fast. However, later it's good to practice with this kind of material, too.

    If you read a language other than yours do you read your native language in your head or that language ur reading? I’ve always wondered this lol

      I speak 3 languages (nothing compared to this guy but I’m on my way) and I just read and think in whatever it is I’m reading/speaking. I just got out of work where I primarily speak Spanish so my brain is in Spanish mode at the moment, but yeah, you think in the language you’re reading. It would be a hassle to read something in X language while simultaneously translating to your native

    • @ColeLangs
      @ColeLangs  3 роки тому

      I always read it in the language that's on the page. The less that you can translate in your head, the better and closer you are to fluency. It's easier said than done, but anyone can do it with enough time and practice!
