- Craiova in Romania was visited in the summer of 2005 when we were on a train trip in southeastern Europe. The tramway opened in 1987 the day before my birthday. It was built into a large industrial area outside the city. 18 kilometers of tramway with the then new Timis2 trams, some of which remained when we were there. Now, in 2020, new low-floor trams have been ordered from Tatra-Yug in Ukraine, but with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, they may have to look around for other trams. In 2005, there were some trams from Vienna and other European cities, in traffic.
hello! a friend of mine presented this video to me and that's how i managed to see it. i'd like to say thank you for this recording, as it brings a lot of memories to see footage with my hometown from almost 17 years ago!
many things have changed ever since, of course. the hotel where you stayed has been renovated and transformed in a ramada hotel. near it, it's the "km 0" zone of the city. now, there is an overpass above that intersection where trams are now running, and, of course, most of the trams you recorded have been out of use for many years. the timis ones were all retired until 2008, and only three of them still exist but not in active use. other trams were "modernised" in 2015-16 and others were reactivated as one of the "modernised" tatra kt4d was struck by a thunder and caught fire, and many other info which it'd be boring if i had to insert them all into one comment.
also, a correction: we won't receive new trams from tatra-yug anymore, as the tender was contested and won by the polish company pesa. the first new tram will be delivered at the end of 2023. the prototype of the tram we were supposed to have initially is now owned by the public transport company in kyiv.

The new trams started to come to Craiova 2 days ago , i saw them , they are testing them now and in about a week or two they will start to work
