Hi, Thank you so much for posting this video. I have been working on paper litho now for about 6 months. I have had some success mixing faust etching with hanco shop mix litho about 3 to 1 etching to litho ink. I'm a photographer and I'm trying to go in another direction from the dark room or inkjet printing. The process I've used is different from yours but I really want to try it with your technique. I can't tell which Charbonnel black you are using. Is it the Black Universal 55981? I appreciate any help or advice you could give me. Thank you.
Hi. Again, I am sorry to be responding so late to your question. Yes, I use the Charbonnel 55981Universal Black and also their soft black. I have used a variety of Charbonnel's other colored inks and had success. I have used Faust transparent base with Charbonnel inks if I am layering images and want to reveal the images underneath them . That has worked well also. I hope you are having great success! It's one of my favorite techniques.
Hi there, I am doing research on "Paper/Xero-Lithography" (lithographic prints using normal laser-printed paper images as plates) If you know anything of the sorts, could you help me track where this process originates from? I'm curious who was the first to stick a paper in a laser printer, wet it down, and create this method?

Hi. Sorry it took so long to respond to your question. I have to say I am not really sure why the gum arabic reacts with the toner and allows ink to adhere to it. I just understand it is a process of oil based inks and water not mixing. I have searched the internet myself and not found an answer to that. I do not mix my own gum arabic. I use it straight from the bottle. There are a lot of suppliers online though some stores sell it in very small bottles. It's very expensive that way. You can purchase quart or gallon containers for a much better price.
This is a late answer but just saw this video....Gum Arabic is a natural product. It is naturally acidic. Oil based inks will not stick to acidic surfaces so anything with an image (grease pen or toner etc) will not accept the gum ( because these images are not pourous ) and non image areas will accept gum....then, when you ink up and print, the ink will only stick to the image and not to the non image area.......try looking for a graphic supply company that sells products to the offset printing shops in your area. You can purchase gallon sizes from them or maybe your local print shop will sell you a quart. They use it to "gum" the metal plates they use so that the non image areas will not oxidize while the plates are in storage. Hope this helps.

Plate oil which can be purchased at Gamblin or Blick, is a n oil that changes the viscosity of the ink. There are a small variety to chose from. I like #00. If your ink is thick or tacky, which some inks are, it can rip the image you are trying to ink up. It takes some practice to get it right. Too thick or too runny are not good for different reasons.The first can rip your paper. The second will leave oily spots of ink in white areas. Hope this helps.

Are you using Etching or Litho ink?
I use Charbonnel etching ink. I have found it to work the best for me./
Do you use an etching press or a litho press? I am dying to know HOW exactly you transfer the image?
Etching press. After the image is treated and inked, I put it on plexiglass and place my wet paper on top. Then run it through your press.
