    I love how in game 3 you say "... Very interesting" but you really mean "these are baffling and terrible decisions being made by Lion Dib..." LOL. I knew he was going to lose as soon as he cast the Lion instead of using his chaos orb. Still a great match!

    • @TimmytheSorcerer
      @TimmytheSorcerer  Рік тому +2

      Yes and no, this player has won some big tournaments and made it to the top 8 in most events that he plays in. So, I am sure that he has his reasons not to cast the orb. I also don't get it, but knowing Baptist he did so with an idea in mind or he was simply overthinking things (happens to the best of us, especially after 10 hours of playing magic 🤯). Would be great to hear from Baptist and find out how he feels about the play, and why he made the decision 🤔

      I can somewhat agree, however even if he orb’d one of his mana sources, there still could’ve been that same divine offering okay next turn restricting his mana in return. I think he wanted to bring out 2 problems knowing one would most likely survive. I will say however that him not waiting for the library in the third game was probably his biggest downfall. He opted to set up and inevitably did nothing with it during those few turns rather than just holding back. Great games either way very exciting match

    Mana Drain + Legends Recall is sick.

    Pro Tip: Use the Beta or Unlimited Chaos Orb and Falling Star, as your cards will have _slightly_ more surface area than Alpha for landing on those pesky cards. 😁

    Evenly matched players who each had to make tough decisions about which card to play against each other's strong deck!

    Two fair decks playing a fair game. Usually eliminated in the first or second round by unfair decks in 94/95 tournaments.

  • @Rorschachqp
    @Rorschachqp 10 місяців тому

    Second round, left player saccing Lotus and playing Book over Serra = pro play. Previous play of Braingeyser was iffy but, he didn't have a land drop otherwise so I understand and he totally lucked out with both Lotus and Mox. But that's how you play 94. You play so many insane sorceries, artifacts and Ancestral, you just roll the dice to draw.

    I enjoyed the game, I wonder what Baptist's thought process was on the turn at 40:00. He has a twist for 7 available against no available counterspell mana. It opens him up to 2 disenchants or a disenchant + orb + swords worstcase responses, but even if that happens he comes out next turn against Ron's 1 mystery card + 4 mana with his own 4 mana + disenchant + counterspell + serra + fresh card. He has to use the twist later to end up at hand parity of 0. I wonder if I'm missing anything, but definitely feels like the twist for 7 there would be powerful

    • @ryanl2016
      @ryanl2016 Рік тому

      I don't see what you are talking about at the linked time. His first black lotus is countered. He then plays Recall where X=1 to get back black lotus, which would have given him an opportunity to Twist for 3 right away, but not for 7.

    • @monsinnevagari264
      @monsinnevagari264 Рік тому +1

      @@ryanl2016 I think you're watching Ron's turn after the turn I was talking about. Baptist is on the left, Ron's on the right. Baptist plays a strip mine at 41:32, so he has 8 mana up - Sol Ring, Emerald, Island, Tundra, City, Strip Mine, LOA

      @@monsinnevagari264 you are correct thank you for clarifying. Indeed, not mind twisting when his opponent only had one blue mana available (and he could also have strip mined the tundra to further limit his opponent's ability to cast a card like power sink) seems like a big blunder. Oh well!

  • @Rorschachqp

    36:20, I wouldn't flip Chaos Orb on Factory (a relatively useless card), nor the Mox Emerald (another relatively useless card since it's not on color). I would flip it on opponent's blue source. That would be a huge thing in a spell counter war...only one guy casting spell counters. This is the problem of not playing Power Sink, a spell counter that not only needs only one blue mana, but if you cast it last and on the opponent's turn, it forces them to tap out. You saw how nasty it was when the right-hand player misplayed by tapping out to play Djinn so early with no spell counter to back it up/protect it. Power Sink forces your opponent to tap out on their turn, when used correctly. We also get to see how crap the Savannah Lions in the deck. Left player tapped out on his turn to cast Savannah Lions when he could have had left the mana open for Orb activation.

    Question: I have Italian & German Renaissance and some foreign black-border Revised. Could I use English proxies for the expensive cards, or would I have to spend oodles of money replacing them if I wanted to play in a tournament like this?

    • @briandiadem

      Play the foreign cards. They're just as legal as the English ones.

      @@briandiadem Over at the oldschool-mtg blog, it says:
      Legal sets:
      Alpha
      Beta
      Unlimited
      Arabian Nights
      Antiquities
      Legends
      The Dark
      _Only English versions are allowed in Oldschool_
      Which was why I was asking. Maybe that was specific to a particular event...

      When you play in a tournament you look at two things, the rule set and the re-print policy.
      When you play online most tournaments have an open re-print policy, meaning you can use re-prints incl fbb or fwb cards as long as the art is the same.
      Playing irl is a different story. Each tournament organizer (TO) can have their own re-print rules. Usually foreign cards and re-prints are allowed, but you have exceptions, for example, KOT allows 12 re-prints in total. It’s always good to ask the to when in doubt, because that is the person who decides.
      CE and IE is again another story because of the frame. Again, almost always allowed online, but irl it depends.
      Hopefully this answer helps a little

    • @WarhavenSC
      @WarhavenSC Рік тому

      @@TimmytheSorcerer That does, ty. I was looking at getting back into magic and have a handful of foreign cards, my Italian Revised Bayou, for example. I'm sure I could get a 1:1 trade at an LGS for a English Revised, but I really like the black border. It looks much nicer along side the original four expansions, and I get the Beta-aesthetic without the Beta-price. :)
