- Something like an Appendix to the preceding trilogy of videos on Gnosticism, today I share my thoughts on the implications of Gnosticism for Grimoire practitioners, and once again encourage us to distinguish between the language and symbols on one hand, and the deeper reality they point to on the other hand.

I have been attempting to develop my own rituals incorporating the entities from Gnostic cosmology, both Aeons and Archons. To say it's difficult is an extreme understatement.
Also I look forward to any videos you make on Geomancy in the future because it's slowly becoming my favorite mode of divination. John Michael Greer even lays out a few systems of practical magic using it in his book on Geomancy.
I am a huge fan of gnosticism and kind of saddened to hear this may the last video for quite some time on the subject, but none the less I know you'll always have beautiful insights and knowledge to share regardless of what the subject at hand may be. Thank you so much for all you do and provide the community. You will always have my support.

I think that once you've had that particular Gnostic revelation, using anything connected to conventional Christianity could be problematic if you've been raised as a Christian as it's so deeply engrained and western society has been so heavily influenced by it. I think methods could be used but as for actual names, it might be a stretch to properly achieve that disconnection from traditional meanings. Everyone's different of course and each path different, but for me, I don't think I could use any traditional name for God, without it meaning just that to me deep in my mind, which is obviously problematic if you are Gnostic for the reasons you explained so well. Demiurge a metaphore for belief and confirmation bias, basicly don't let your beliefs rule you, but you can't escape belief, so always question your beliefs and idea's or you will be in a cage of belief.
@Snatch Dizzy I view Belief and Ego as similar at the very least, but honestly I think they may be the same thing at this point

Great video, brother!! I was just talking about this last night with a few friends on Twitter. We were talking about how some Gnostic teachers have an antisemitic edge because of their literalism. The dance between literalism and unveiling metaphor is a spicy dance.
As far as making the paradigm of grimoire magic work under the paradigm of the umbrella of Gnosticism (as not all Gnostic sects believed YHWH as a demiurge) what we have done in The Mystical Order of the Nazarene is applied the ideas of compassion, transcendence and hierarchy. Yaldabaoth/Yahweh is still our Creator therefore as we ascend to Oneness to the Monad we must respect and show compassion to Yahweh. This gets into the idea of the new Earth and new Heaven of Revelation. When we all work to do what is right, show compassion, and the Great Work we pull Yaldabaoth up with us as He is a part of us. This will eventually bring Yaldabaoth into the Pleroma, Heaven and Earth will unite, and then the Pleroma will truly fulfill it's meaning. I think you can see where that is all going. Kind of a Jungian Gnostic thing going on.

I was coming across that sentiment of anti semitism in some gnostic literature as well, it felt problematic and frustrating.
@@millennialbuddhism2619 The anti-semitism modern people see in Gnosticism is I think mostly just people projecting modern values backward into history. It's important to remember the first Gnostics were Jews. They were Jews who were criticizing the sins of Jehovah.
@@XfiverX No, what I am referring to is more modern authors in the past 100 - 500 years taking these stories and mixing them with ancient tales of atlantians and other stories, and utilizing these small notions from the past, expanding on them, and creating their own theories about race. If youre are more interested in this, i suggest looking into the naz1 party and their involvment in the occult and what books they were actually drawing from. Himmler's bible is a good place to start. But they are drawing from all sorts of ancient sources, compiling them, and creating theories mostly about the ancient race of atlantians.
Most atlantis stories from the past 200 years are steeped in racist or literal nazi ideologies.
I think that the best solution to the matter/spirit debate is Plato's, that is, that matter is the overflow of spirit from Man.

My life cocktail is, two part of paradox (or one if you like), a touch of nihilism. Then sprinkle litle bit of thelema on top of it! And serve it at the tree of life 🍸
we have to connect the dots ourselves, simple as that.
This is exactly where I'm at in my practice. I've come to an Understanding that the Universe is in varying degrees between Spirit and Matter. So the "God of the Universe" would be a reconciliation between The Lowest of the Low, the Prima Materia, or XÁOΣ (Khaos), which all Matter is composed of, and the Highest of the High, the Divine Spark of Light that came out of the the Darkness of XÁOΣ (Luxferro, The" Greater Lucifer" or Φάνης). It is the Most Perfect Version of Ourselves, that we are a mere reflection of, or in Gnostic terminology "The Great Invisibile Spirit".
Any Name given to this Composite Metagod would be Correct, because it is ALL THINGS, but it would also be Incorrect, due to the fact of Naming something that is Infinite and Perfect makes it Finite and Imperfect.
Life on Earth is a unique experience and opportunity to live as a Individual point of view, for a relatively short period of time, as an exercise of the Divine Mind to experience Itself on a subjective level, like when One who has a very intense Lucid Dream; All Things in the dream are aspects of Your Own Subconscious Mind and All Things in the Universe are aspects of a Greater Mind.
Whatever "floats your Spiritual boat" and "gets you there" is all that matters. No matter what you Call your Deity of Choice, the true object of your Spirit practice, is your Own Divinity.
I appreciate you taking the time to discuss Gnosticism and the idea of using it as a model which is how I have been approaching it. I keep it on the back burner of my mind and for me the model works in describing The Ego as Yaldaboath/The Demiurge is the God of our material realm (he thinks he is the only God as our Ego tries to assert as well). Using this has really opened up quite a bit in understanding and even coming to terms as my ego as The Demiurge and the "positive" aspects of what that means and the insights it has given me in my practice, especially around manifestation.

I don't practice magick, but I've sometimes wondered if you could do Solomonic magick as a Gnostic. Metaphor or not, I wouldn't feel comfortable praying to the "creator."
I personally feel the "matter = bad, spirit = good" view is a great oversimplification of Gnosticism. Suffering and perishability are inherent qualities of the material realm, but that doesn't make everything that is material inherently evil. However, the more a person gets caught up in the traps and limitations of material reality, the more evil the world is going to be to them.
Thank you Denis your explanation of the use of allegory and switching paradigms has so much ressonance. I have recently been exploring Shams Al-Ma'arif and this convinces me that the scriptures are entirely allegorical, furthermore that so many grimoires are actually about personal allegory (although this was often completely lost in translation).

Switching paradigms is one thing - more internal, but it leads in straight way to another change, external - switching between (or maybe better to say interconnect ) egregores. and I think that this is thing to remember because different egregores could have very diffrent 'preferences' of your approach or type of energy You want to use.

From what I know of gnosticism, I think a case could be made for overlap with some grimoires. While gnosticism isn't my path, I found the teachings quite fascinating in what it conveys as well as the structure.
As for mixing things, my practice involves a split of Kabbalah and Lei Fa. But even with that, I still tell people not to mix anything unless you know yourself well and the mix makes sense for your distinct path.
While knowing yourself is pretty basic, I think the concept is underrated. Your true will/intention tends to dictate how you interpret what you see and read. Not doing the work on the front end can lead to a mess of unintended consequences on the back end.

As someone with a mixed religious heritage, this kind of 'eclecticism' is essential to my practice. People might say you 'shouldn't' engage in it, but people also talk about honouring their roots alot in Magick, and for me, eclecticism is the ONLY way to properly honour my roots. Sticking to 'one paradigm' would necessarily mean leaving some aspect of my history out. It can be challenging, but the biggest help is maintaining a deeper philosophical framework that allows them to cohere. That's not to say it's a rigid list of rules, it has to have room for adaptation as one learns and grows, and in fact, the developing and adjusting of that framework is akin to a kind of Jungian integration work. That is to say, working with multiple paradigms, but trying to do so both respectfully and coherently can become a kind of practice in of itself, and I don't mean that in a bad way. You can learn a lot by meditating on how seemingly disparate ideas can fit together.

How about Neutral Monism, both Spirit & Matter are different forms of the same "Stuff", or even the same?
If one takes a cartesian axis say the X horizontal, in the middle is zero, an empty zero, however there can be more zeros, if one takes vertical dotted lines at point 1 & at point -1 this also equals zero, extend this (+ infinity) + (- infinity) = 0 but a full zero, so I think "God" is the "Zero Sum Infinite Wave Function" something doesn't come from an empty nothing, but from everything which is also nothing (a full one)!
I approach this largely informed by the writings of Anne Conway, as she was directly in contact with Henry More of the Cambridge Platonists (which drew heavily on Neoplatonic thought, which I feel is instructive by analogy from Neoplatonic influence on Sethian Gnostic literature)

Modern Chaos magic is not what it used to be, now it is a trap, it sounds cool.. it´s not about switching paradigms. It is the opposite. The essence of chaos is that it is not bound to any kind of system and flows truly free hence no paradigm is needed. All you need is found within. The gnostic state.

I personally don’t perceive it to be a serious issue, what with the legitimacy of divine names and the true nature of creation. I view all the symbolism of ceremonial practice as a sort of set of strings by which we marionette our divided intentions into alignment, so that we may direct our energy where we need it to go. I cannot fathom any instance of a name or somesuch being required to be necessarily accurate, so long as it enables us to aim our minds towards the appropriate destinations. Such as if you view a place on a map, going there and experiencing such place functions identically regardless of its name, though when discussing such a place, any manner of falsehoods, fetishizations, and imaginary redefining can occur, thus the name of a place or it’s image on the map are not the true place, nor could they ever be. However, they can lead us there.
The emotional rollercoaster of the opening statement:

Equating YHWH with Yaldabaoth can really twist your noodle but what about comparing Yaldabaoth to Abraxas and then the diety Phanes?
For me mythology helps me to understand perspectives while Hermeticism has a Universal approach and that’s why I respect all spirit as a cunning person should
So the name YHWH and the archangels dont necissarily correspond to the attrocious stories in the old testament? Their spiritual beings arent literally responsible for the stories?
I completely disagree about everything mentioned about "gossip". To live ones daily life based on the half truths of also flawed individuals seems dreadful.
