I remember tape recording this off the radio when it was broadcast. I was living in the first flat I ever had of my own as well as going out with my first ever girlfriend and to punk gigs . That's why not surprisingly 1976 will always be a very special year for me.
This is noteworthy since not too many British punk recordings exist from 1976. The Vibrators played the 100 Club punk festival with lukewarm results. Older than most of the other bands and not quite fitting in, they played Beatles and Stones covers and even a version of Jerry Lee Lewis' Great Balls of Fire. (Goodness gracious!) Needless to say, the audience wasn't exactly jacked up by their performance. These Peels still show them enamored with catchy rock ditties, but on I'm Gonna Be Your Nazi Baby they start to punk out. And We Vibrate, their second single (11/10/76) is taken at a faster tempo than the album version. Soon after this, boys must have heard the punk writing on the wall, got it together, and released one of the classic British punk albums, Pure Mania (6/'77) An album that sounded nothing like the Clash or Sex Pistols and contained the song Stiff Little Fingers. Ring a bell?
@@aarthoorthat maybe partly true but while most of their contemporaries have long gone The Vibrators have always been consistent riding along albeit with a number of line up changes and fitting in with the second generation of punk along with the likes of The Exploited, Anti Nowhere League, Chron Gen etc and still going. Seen them many many times always one of my favourite ‘punk’ bands
Having recorded this on my cassette desk as well as having listened to this live on John Peel's programme in 1976 I'd never have thought that I'd be buying their latest LP 'Mars Casino' in 2021 - some 45 years later. I'm still vibrating!
Willie, a lot of punk bands were doing fifties covers, I Fought The Law was written for Buddy Holly, but he died before he could record it, the original is by The Crickets, Brand New Cadillac was originally by Vince Taylor and the Playboys, The Pistols covered a couple of Eddie Cochran songs, then there's the Rezillos, Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight was written and recorded by Fleetwood Mac, under the name of Earl Vince and the Valiants, the Cramps covered loads, Her Love Rubbed Off was originally a Carl Perkins song. Even the Pirates, who played a lot of the early punk gigs were formed in '58 and had their first hit in '59, with Johnny Kidd, although the punk lineup wasn't formed until '62 (Green Spence and Farley). Even Iggy Pop's Wild One was a Jerry Lee Lewis cover ;-)
They really made their mark with their 2nd album V2 and found a better direction, and to me V2 was brilliant and my favourite LP ever it beats all my other punk records hands down.
V2 is a fantastic album ... but there are a few bests no doubt . The Ruts , The Stranglers , Hawkwind/Hawklords , Ian Dury , Chris Spedding , Alex Harvey , The Damned , Iggy Pop , Ramones , New York Dolls , Mötorhead etc ... Still as an album V2 truly is a Punk Era Classic without a doubt - great songs & awesome Guitar Ace John Ellis ... Love John w/ Peter Hammill's K Group . It's just impossible to pick one but '77 - '82 was 5 incredible years never to be matched ... Ever
You're welcome...I'm sure John would've wanted the sessions to be available...the British public paid for them in the first place...they should be available for everyone to hear...all of them!
It's interesting to hear "Nazi Baby" here already. The song was only on the second record and is one of the best songs The Vibrators ever recorded. Here it's still rather tame and luckily they got rid of that annoying six-note motif that runs through the song.
Punk music had lots to do with really fast 50s music...how it got all dark and bondagey is beyond me. I think Punk just wanted to go back to pre 1967 music...simple+ classy...Chris Spedding seems like a main culprit.
But you know 'Another Girl, Another Planet', it's more like playing Beatles 'Let It Be', with fast tempo and some drugs in blood, with a fantastic band.

They sound to me like a pub rock band that saw an emerging bandwagon and jumped on it.
@@aarthoor good for them. Good band. Nice bit of rock'n'roll
They ever cover any Beach Boys?
J'ai toujours adoré ce groupe. Meme 40 ans après. French fan.

Respect for your knowledge ,thanx...
You're trying to tell me I thought the law wasn't written by Joe Strummer
Real Wild Child (Wild One) was first written and done by Australian rock and roller Johnny O'Keefe
I love this guys channel, my youth

I am SO surprised "whips n furs" NEVER appeared in any of the "Fifty Shades" films! Than and the Velvet's "Venus in furs"...!
R.i.p.Pat :😞
They should have kept this version of sweet sweet heart. The guitars ❤️❤️❤️
Good setlist , to buy.
Wicked.
Wait?! Is this their first recording? The first single was released in November 76...

Dance to the Music. ......so, I wonder where 'The Only Ones' got 'Another Girl, Another Planet' ??? :-) ;-)
Jesus I see what you mean, never noticed before
Exactly what I thought
But you know 'Another Girl, Another Planet', it's more like playing Beatles 'Let It Be', with fast tempo and some drugs in blood, with a fantastic band.
