Ikea Kallax Hack - fitting castors

Earlier this week I posted a video showing how I hacked a 2x2 Kallax into a trolley for my heat press. I thought I'd lost the footage of putting on the castors, but I found it! Here's that footage edited down to include the important bits.

Curious why did you use the piece of wood and not just attach the casters to the kallax?

pretty castors! Where'd you find clear ones? Also, is that solid wood you attached? or MDF?

Those castors are Easyroll Polycarbonate Castors from Bunnings. They are pretty and are quite hard wearing too. The wood is solid pine, painted.

Did you buy the wood as it is or cut it from something else?

I bought some lengths of pine and cut them to the width of the Kallax, then painted them before attaching them. Some of that detail is in the “Ikea Hack: Kallax Heat Press Trolley” - 2:50 is about the right time stamp for what I purchased. 11:20 is about where I explain how I’m going to attach them to the bottom of the Kallax.

Great video just wondering if you can give me the measurements of the wood piece - length, width, thickness :)

Sorry. I’ve been issuing in action and only have only just seen it. If you’re referring to the top shelf, it’s 900mm x 400mm which is 35.5” x 15.7”. It’s a pre-made laundry shelf design to fit on the brackets that you attach to the wall.
