Good thought process, but the 2 point sling, typified in the early 2000's by the VTAC, and later your VCAS sling, is not a fun way to carry a rifle for a long period of time. It is a compromise for combat, not super applicable to hunting IME. Part of handiness is that the rifle be as little of a burden as possible. Hence, short and light. Short tends to cut both ways though, as balance is negatively affected with shorter tubes. If I was out patrolling, a VTAC would get the nod, but for pleasurable hunting, it will end up over one shoulder or in a hand more often than not. I designed the PIG SMS sling to help fix some short comings, but they are not in production right now.
I just looked up this sling. Was this your design? That's exactly the kind of thing that I'm after. Would you mind contacting me at cliffy109@gmail.com and maybe we can discuss it further.
ua-cam.com/video/7EXz30C743I/v-deo.html a 2 point sling integrates perfectly with chest mounted pouches and gear used for hunting just as well as it integrates with soldiers chest pouches.
Steve, Enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work. I agree with you that most hunter walk around hunting carrying their rifle on their shoulder. I have been caught by deer doing this. A sling carry across your chest is the best. How you accomplish this is the problem. I like your suggestion and this one. ua-cam.com/video/c7I-ZD4a8EU/v-deo.html I also want comment on the 308/6.5 ammo debate. To me it comes down to ammo cost and availability. I can buy about 15 different 308 choices of ammo at 25 to 45 bucks a box at Walmart but less than 5 of 6.5 at the same place. I will not shoot more than 300 yards where I do most of my hunting so why buy a round/ammo that is touted as being great at that. Just my opinion.
Don Nguyen is doing great work with the scout rifle and we talk fairly regularly. He has some experience in the field that I can't start to match. I've been talking to him about this sling issue and we agree that more work needs done to make things just right. We also agree that the cross body carry is the future for scouting.
Thanks for the Rifle Theology

Great video, great info, excellent observations as always. :)

That is a very good definition of Handiness. May i use your definition of handiness with credit to yourself?
Sure thing. Honored that you like it.
I’ll be interested in seeing how to utilize this sling while wearing a Bino harness and/or other hunting and scouting gear.
That is actually a problem. Didn’t work well with binos but I’m working on that
@@cliffy109I really appreciate the thought and practicality you put into this.

I like that terminology in the video. Wonder where you got that from? 😉
How long is that sling

This is why I put QD sockets on my Steyr. The vickers sling makes a world of difference carrying the rifle.
