"For Me and My Gal" was Gene's first film as a leading man. That role was supposed to go to George Murphy, who was also in the film. When it became apparent that there was more chemistry between Gene and Judy Garland, Gene's role was expanded. That film made Gene a star.

That was back in the day when stars could actually sing and dance. Nowadays, not a modern star could stand on stage without their techno-mechno staff and electronics to make it happen. Put a one of them on stage to sing a song and they couldn't. Well maybe Lady Gaga, oddly enough.

Yeah. I own the DVD. There were alot of emotions from both Kelly and Liza here, brought back alot of memories from their earlier duo of singing the song together, when Judy was still with them. And it brought back memories of Kelly and Judy singing it in their 1941 film. You could see that Judy was sadly missed

Judy was one of a kind, Performers practiced a LOT back then, so there is no comparing for quality. Liza was pretty good too. In this clip, what I like is how nice girls were dressed at that time, and their demeanor. Today, feminism killed the sweetness, bad parenting, PC schools and the "Duck Face" selfie, so, it's history.

Bluejeans, I have no idea why the other commenter got so hysterical just because you said what everyone knows! But although it’s true that Liza couldn’t rise to her Mother’s level-who could? No one. She is considered by her peers to be the greatest entertainer of the 20th Century, but Liza is terrific. Her voice is completely different from Judy’s, but I like it, and she’s an excellent actress and dancer-or was at the time this show was filmed.

Mr. Kelly, you have chosen a wrong parter for the dance. You should not have dared to be teamed with Liza Minnelli. She did not inherit her mother's talent as an singer.

It’s odd that you wrote “wrong partner from the dance” (Liza was a trained Broadway dancer) but then critique her singing instead. At any rate, her Grammy, Oscar, Tony and Emmy awards beg to differ…
