  • Teaching English in South Korea can often be hell. Yet you can succeed with the right mindset. It's important to have realistic expectations when you come to this nation, and it's equally important to leave your pride at the door.

Thank you for this video. I'm happy that it's most of the mindset I am going in with. I start teaching this fall and am moving from another industry. I've prepped that it won't be easy, starting learning the language, understanding the cultural norms, and what it like at a public vs hagwon. I had been getting a little nervous about the negative videos and discouragement from some friends.

Keep your clothes clean, your face shaved, and wear deodorant. If you have tattoos, cover them. Blend in. Don't cause trouble. If you are with minors or young women be sure other adults are present.

I taught in Europe for 3 yrs. I'm used to being broke so no big deal. It was better than being in Somalia or Chicago.

True. I wouldn't want to be in Somalia or Chicago, either.
