      +Ismaeil Al-mutawakel Don't expect to have a conversation if you are not going to learn the language to a level where you can communicate. The whole point of learning survival Korean is to convey what you want, what they want anyway. Learn to say that you don't speak Korean so that they will not keep going leaving you cold.

    • @CourtneyMLang
      @CourtneyMLang 9 років тому +6

      +Ismaeil Al-mutawakel As a beginner, we should know that there is not much we will able to understand. Understanding and accepting that fact helps us set a realistic goal and learn to communicate within our own ability, doesn't it? When Koreans ... or any other foreign language speakers, begin to shoot their languages at those who obviously seem to be a beginner, it's not something we as beginners can complain or feel frustrated about.

    • @carlatteniese2
      @carlatteniese2 8 років тому +5

      +Ismaeil Al-mutawakel By the time you can utter these expressions with the pronunciation necessary, you will understand basically what is being said, or the person will speak basic English in return as most Koreans do, by now. Especially in Korea, if you do not pronounce these phrases correctly, the locals will look at you like you have two heads. They have a hard enough time understanding one another, in certain circumstances. pronunciation-wise, Korean is a very idiosyncratic language.,

    Hi Professor Oh!
    Your video lessons are very useful for foreigners like me who is still learning Korean! I have watched all of your Korean Phrases videos and taken down notes before my Trip to Korea in late April. I was able to communicate with other Koreans such as a Taxi Ahjussi when I was at Nami Island! I would like to thank you for that! Your Videos are very informative and I am glad I have come across your channel back when you first started! I wish you all the best and keep making videos! 화이팅!!

    Fun fact: If anyone can speak English, it means they can understand the sentence "can you speak English?"

    • @jamesarmstrong857
      @jamesarmstrong857 7 років тому +17

      But if you ask in English, you across in a very negative way. If someone here in the states asks me in Spanish if I speak Spanish( I have limited ability) I pretend I don't. If they ask in English, I go out of my way using as much Spanish as I can. It's a respect thing. Anywhere you go in the world, if you just learn how to ask if someone speaks English in the local tongue, far more people will be willing to help you. It's disrespectful to do otherwise.

I have new students in my pre-k class who moved from Korea and I would like to learn simple things like nap time, or eat, or basic words or phrases that I can tell a child with certain gestures and sounds. I just want to make sure that they're comfortable and that I'm able to communicate with them as much as possible. Thank you!

    Learning a language is fun! Just put your mindset on it! No matter what age. I lived in Morocco and had to learn French, Arabic, and Spanish at the same time at age 39.
    Now I am talking Korean and Japanese at the same time, now I'm 52. . Don't let age be a factor, its not a flaw!
    I always ask God to make learning easy for my mind, my tongue, my ears and my heart and get pass these with fun!

    My father learned how to speak read and write Korean. He was in Love with my mom so he learned. He said it was really easy 😂 They're not together anymore.. Koreans are always amazed with my father's knowledge. He speaks 3 languages.
