- The presentational package featured numerous people of various backgrounds dancing in a predominantly red background to a soundtrack based around an upbeat central jingle. The BBC One logo is now located in a red box, similar in style to BBC Two's idents of the time, with the BBC logo stacked on top of an upper case 'ONE'. The music for all idents was written by Peter Lawlor of Water Music Productions in London.
This looks so much better than the dull Oneness idents.
I come back to these every so often because they calm me down.
I do as well! But more with balloon idents, the nostalgia of simpler times hits hard.
If anything it gives me anxiety that these were already 20 years ago
Interesting to hear the full versions again after so many years.
Love the skaters one. That music is really nostalgic.

As of commenting this, today is the 20 year anniversary of the launch of these idents!
The Ballet Ident was the perfect one to sign out the Rhythm and Movement era. They will be missed by many.
I haven't seen these since 2006! It's a cliche of mine, but this has brought back memories by the boatload.
I love these ones too but the BBC one balloons will always be my favourites.

I wasn’t keen on these idents at first (I loved the balloons as one ident was filmed near me in Felixstowe docks) but I appreciate these a lot more now in time.

Looking back these idents were really good, this was a big change for BBC 1 as the globe had disappeared which was iconic for the channel since it started
One way of describing these idents would be "anything except provincial England". I wasn't a Brexit supporter myself, but watching these you can kind of see how it happened. The idents were clearly designed by people who detested anything that could be described as traditionally English.
@@ajs41 Good point actually, this is probably around the time when the BBC started introducing more and more mixed race people into their shows.
@@ajs41How do you know that the designers of these idents "Detested anything traditionally English?" And what would you have had these dance-themed idents showing? Morris dancing? (Not that I dislike Morris dancing, but let's face it, it's not the most technically challenging dance style ever, is it?)

there is just something so sad about watching these knowing ive probably sat with my nana on her knee ready to watch casualty or something. life was so simple not because i was young but just now the worlds moving to fast. children are in a hurry to grow up. this is when when their was nothing on it would be wait till friday to go to the video shop

The Bollywood one is my favorite, I love the syncopated dance rhythm and and the funky second half tune that you normally never heard because it was spoken over.

Honestly, as a replacement for the Balloon and the iconic globe that had even in use for around 30 years at that point these suck. But, on their own, these idents are amazing!
I must admit I do have some nostalgia for these; given that this was the years of my early-mid teens. However, u always thought they were amongst the weakest bbc1 idents (then again I always thought the globe hot air balloon ones were also quite dull!).
They did good with the circle motif from 2006 onwards, but the oneness ones are utterly appaling! Though the lockdown ones are quite inventive, oneness needs to be dropped and the globe reintroduced!

The music video Ident was created for the start of Fame Academy.
Acrobats music is similar to Clubbed To Death. Music video music is similar to P!nk's song. Festival music is similar to Forever and A Day. Tumblers is similar to Embers by James Nulpoint Newman. Maasai ident is similar to some African type music. Ballet ident is similar to the sad music.
Forever And A Day is basically a cover of that tune, the release label says it features the music commissioned for BCC One.

Happy 21st birthday to these. The BBC One of my childhood, ergo the one that will always seem *correct* to me.
The channel should be embarrassed on the presentation front. The Oneness idents were an attempt to redo R&M, sans any R&M, and the current set attempt to fuse the picture postcard-ness of Circles with the ambient wash of the Balloon, *without* the crucial use of an iconographic and/or authoritative centre that both of those provided.
I've just realised the music to the hanging acrobats one is basically Clubbed To Death from The Matrix soundtrack

I love the rave style one. Does anyone remember a slightly different version of that with much slower music to it? I’ve been trying to find it without success
I'm pretty sure that there was not an alternate version of that ident. However, there does exist a song called Forever And A Day by State One. It's a dance tune based around a sample of that music. Maybe that's what you're thinking of? The really long, over 8 minutes long, version contains a somewhat slower version of the tune within it.

Do you not have the full version of Salsa dancing Ident? That isn't the full version, I'm pretty sure I've heard more of it. The only ones you have in full are Capoeria, Acrobats, Haka, Tango and maybe a few others I'm not so sure. Thanks!

I did enjoy these idents back in 2002 also I like the original song it came from (forever and a day, by State One) #RIP good idents. BBC 2 has much better ones which is still surprising I think my favourite one is the rugby ident and the festival one.
Forever and a day was based on the music from the festival ident and was released like a year later. so the idents came first.
