"Plus. You just don't see them that often". EXACTLY. Hit the nail right in the skull! Jaguars are unique, and different in everyway. I see Mercs and BMW's everywhere. And that gets boring. But when I see a Jag, my jaw drops. That's why I'd get a Jag over its German rivals, all day *EVERYDAY!*
I just bought one...love it !! It is one damn nice car ! This guy doing the review.....no pleasing him no matter what, he could find something wrong with anything.
jaguars are so underrated. i remember being at an airport when i was a kid and seeing a jaguar inside it for show, and it blew me away. don't remember the exact model but i remember it was a jaguar and it was awesome. Ever since i wanted a jaguar. And this xj is perfect for me since it's rear wheel drive, supercharged, awesome styling. probly the first car ill get when i can afford it/
TheRevolutionary465 Great thinking! I also used to think like this, but Jaguars depreciate a lot in value that’s why I lost interest in jaguar but their styling is very attractive.
@@ashfaqurrahman5731 - _"...depreciate a lot in value"?_ Well, yeah... that's kind of a good thing. You can now get a $100K car - a Jaguar - with just a few years age on it for $25K. Same car, same Jaguar, same luxury, same styling, but at a price you can't beat. The only other marquee with a better value is to wait a few years for a Bentley to lose $200K in depreciation and buy a used Bentley.
While I don't agree on you on most of your points, you do bring up some valid points for discussion. I love how you pointed out some (what may seem minor to kids and amateurs) details that is actually a big deal to a person inside the car. Unlike motortrend who just waste time with drifting, drag times, and lap times. The positioning of the buttons, the whole satnav system, panel screen operation, leg room, etc; this is what a proper review should be. I have personally driven an XFR and compared it to some of the BMW's and Mercs on the same category. What I loved the most about Jags is the presence of comfort inside the cabin while driving (to be honest, how you operate the satnav system on a Jag is much livable than in an Audi). The seats are comfortable, The AC works, and the suspension feels like it's made of cotton. Most German cars are just a headache to drive. Yes, German cars do drive faster than a Jag, but it's just not oriented for the road as a Jag. A Jag is truly a gentlemen's car. Good Review.
I'm in the market for an XJR and I saw one for sale it was a 97 model I'm a little scared because I have an 1988 XJS V12 and it's a beautiful car but not so good on reliability. I want to how good is the reliability on a 90's model XJR?
Johnny Barrett Bahaha, I've got an 88 XJS v12 as well. They aren't exactly what you'd call reliable. But I still love and will always love Jags. I will always own a jag.
Johnny Barrett i have spent $20k in 4 years keeping 2 XJRs on the road. High mileage ones i have to say. It is a low-numbers edition with expensive parts which is what kills you. The flip side is that these have fully depreciated. And don't have all that electric malarkey like touch screens and blue tooth integration and keyless entry and push button start and all that unnecessary junk. And will look good when everything else looks dated ....
How come everyone say that the rear end is ugly, I think it's gorgeous and really goes we'll with the rest. And this dude surely hates Jags. BTW, it's Jaguar and not Jagwar, learn the bloody difference.
Max Tabor "Jaguar" comes from Portuguese, and if you hear someone say it in Portuguese, you'd be shocked to find out that the Americans actually pronounce it more properly (closer to its roots) than the British. You'll find the same in Spanish; spelled the same, pronounced "HA-gwar." You're welcome.
I'm pretty sure every luxury car I've been in with seat warmers, automatically defaulted to the highest setting and you clicked it more to decrease. And on the XJ you don't have to use the screen to activate it furthermore.
Steering weight =/ Steering feel. A heavy steering can give the driver 0 feedback, drive the M5. A light steering can emit lots of good feedback and the driver can actually tell what the front wheels are doing. Drive a Miata or an XJR/XFR to understand this sensation. Cooley, get your shit together.
When he started talking about the am/FM being separate from satellite radio... It made me stop the video. He is obviously against jaguar. Almost every touch screen radio has them separate, including myford touch and BMW systems.. Why he makes it seem like its just jaguar?
For those who know nothing about cars, it'll be easy for them to be mistaken that the Model S and XJR are from the same manufacture and platform. And at 5:33, apart from the joke, a good amount of people would describe that as a Chav's car.
i thought he'd do what he did in the standard XJ video, intentionally move the front seats right back and then complain the rear legroom is not good enough by trying to get into the back. he seems very critical of jags and doesn't sound like a credible or impartial critic.
Good honest review as always. I was about to buy this car at the time.....glad I didn't. As nice as they are, too many reliability and quality issues. A friend of mine payed close to 10g to do a head gasket and a timing chain on one of these things which is an absurd amount of money.
I'm looking forward to Jaguar implementing the new InControl system across the model range. It should hopefully take care of all the criticism they get for their older infotainment system
XJR is the best luxury performance car in the world, not to mention the most stylish. It's right up there with Rolls Royce, Bentley and Aston Martin...
This car cannot compete with the best German cars like BMW or Audi and Mercedes , although it does look nice, the engineering cant come close to the Germans!!!
Would get the JAG ALL DAY. tired of seeing the AMG/MERCEDES & M/BMW. WOULD CONSIDER AN AUDI BUT THE JAGUAR LOOKS ALOT BETTER. INSIDE and OUT. CHEAPER TOO!
A review of an ultimate driver's car, the Jaguar XJR and the reviewer spends 2/3 of the time nattering on about how the touch screen and the seat heater controls are not exactly to his liking. My 1999 XJR does not have all that touch screen malarkey. I don't need it. But what a drive ....
everyone hates on brian but he has a point keep it simple not put sixty buttons and tons of work that is distracting and will result in a wreck of your jaguar
Johnny, the late 90's model is more reliable than the 80's. They have pretty good ratings on cars.com and edmunds. Of course a lot depends on each individual owner's maintainence and sometime pure luck.
you dont see them that often because they all in the repair shop. my friend had a brand new XK, failed to start after a short fuel stop, and the car is just over 2 month old. LOL
this is rather an amature opinion about this Jag... not a review. and Im going to point out one key thing at the beginning of this vid. The digital dile is used in many cars.. its not old school at all, i dunno what sources this guy gets his info from. but they are used for cars with dials that cant keep up with the rpm. Lambo and audi has them as well... whats so old school about that
Johnny HA The only car that needs a digital dial to keep up with rpm is the lexus lfa. Another thing he mentioned can be find under the term "skeuomorph". This guy knows definitely what he's talking about.
rear end is amazing i drive a new jag tho and the UI is incredibly slow, and the GPS interface is horrid. far too many entries, no search, poor 'road choices', and also lag after every button touch
I can always tell who is doing the car tech video by looking at the likes. Tons of likes and no dislike - Cooley. About 20% more likes than dislikes - Goodwin. More dislikes - Cunningham.
this guy actually thinks a jaguar is an iPhone. it is a car. talk about how it drives and looks, my xj has no technical or electronic problems. you are extremely spoiled.
I don't mean to get alll technical, but dank, dank, and incredibly dank dankness, but that does not mean I am 4:20 friendly, just tolerant. I just wish all manufacturers would make a power base model, all the engine, paddles and AM, FM, BT, AC, PW, PL, RS, and 4 very loud speakers, ok the seat warmers...ok, do not make the "Funny Car" edition.
Looks wise the XJ is the sexiest, almost as sexy as my Aston Martin Rapide, makes my S63 look like it's wearing a fatsuit. Nobody with these cars uses the GPS lol, it's still better than the system that Bentley/Rolls have (I drive delay in my Bimmer is the same so DK what you're going on about). Jaguars infotainment system is the easiest to use, when a car looks and drives this good, you overlook a 5-second delay to turn on heated/massage seats lol. You buy these cars because of how they feel, drive, look, the exclusivity, the craftsmanship and performance, not the GPS, which no one with any 150k+ car uses anyways, everyone uses their phones or knows their way around.
Wow. 120? I'd even take a 335 beamer over this thing. Jesus. 120. LOL. I think the royal family should seriously consider switching their official car brand. I even saw the prince rolling in a Range. Aston would be a nice English car brand.
Red White and Blue all the way Jags and Caddies anything else is undignified .... Don't need to much car tech just a blue tooth your phone can do everything.
This guy is reminiscing what he has been told after having sex......all is negative. From a different point of view, why doesn't he go to England and tell them how to build a Jaguar? Blah, blah...
"Plus. You just don't see them that often". EXACTLY. Hit the nail right in the skull! Jaguars are unique, and different in everyway. I see Mercs and BMW's everywhere. And that gets boring. But when I see a Jag, my jaw drops. That's why I'd get a Jag over its German rivals, all day *EVERYDAY!*
yep, best bang for your buck. Better engine reliability as well.
Totally agree👍👍
100% agree.
I just bought one...love it !! It is one damn nice car ! This guy doing the review.....no pleasing him no matter what, he could find something wrong with anything.

That thing in red is stunning! One of the most beautiful cars on the market today
Jags are phenomenal vehicles. They make you feel good when you are behind the wheel.
my BMW defaults to the highest setting for the seat heaters when you turn them on also, I don't see much of an issue there.
While I don't agree on you on most of your points, you do bring up some valid points for discussion. Life is good when Cooley is reviewing cars.
My 98 XJR still going strong!
I'm in the market for an XJR and I saw one for sale it was a 97 model I'm a little scared because I have an 1988 XJS V12 and it's a beautiful car but not so good on reliability. I want to how good is the reliability on a 90's model XJR?

Leo the Weirdo OH OK, from Portugal huh? Nice...Want One!
JoAnne Hall Well, the name of the animal anyway. The animal is native to South America, and Brazil speaks Portuguese.
Lollll ok
I'm pretty sure every luxury car I've been in with seat warmers, automatically defaulted to the highest setting and you clicked it more to decrease. And on the XJ you don't have to use the screen to activate it furthermore.
I like this guys reviews, he's brutal honest in every review and it's nice to hear negative things about cars.
my god. how can anybody find the s-class or bmw better looking than this? it looks better than rolls and bentley too.
you can get mine for 80 000 dollars :) I need to save up for my dream car- F-type
He's trying to find so many faults in a great car
This is my dream car along with the f - type and xk
Go Tata with your over the top budget I'm loving jag/range lately keep it coming!
I love Jag and I am happy he criticised it. Hopefully jag will make changes.
I can’t believe Jaguar discontinued the XJ it been with us for Decades. That’s just like Lexus discontinuing the LS
So basically, everything he named as a downside can be solved by being mildly competent with technology and by being a good driver.
AAAASSSSHHHHOOOOLLLLEEE!
Steering weight =/ Steering feel. A heavy steering can give the driver 0 feedback, drive the M5. 4:53 "I love these supercharged Jag V8s"
Jaguar XJ is very exquisite, stands above the rest, simple yet elegant.
I look forward to purchasing this car.
2:23-The cancel tone sounds like a key to a 1970s keyboard or Rhodes piano.
For those who know nothing about cars, it'll be easy for them to be mistaken that the Model S and XJR are from the same manufacture and platform.

This will be on my shopping lists!
Good honest review as always. I was about to buy this car at the time.....glad I didn't. As nice as they are, too many reliability and quality issues. A friend of mine payed close to 10g to do a head gasket and a timing chain on one of these things which is an absurd amount of money.
finally someone reviews this car. great review and great car!
Cooley! Good to see you again!
Thank you for the honest review, you saved me a trip to the jag dealership. I’ll stick with lexus
He needs to calm down!!!!! He definitely hates this car.
4:53 "I love these supercharged Jag V8s"
Gorgeous car. I would take a XJ over a 7 series or S-Class
Still better than all of its American competitors. In fact, it's better than all American cars.
Baseball mitt finish!!! Awesome!
This guy should be reviewing fast food restaurants. Not cars.
this man doesn't even deserve to be sitting in that car
damn right he's a shit bag
Like his reviews!
I'm looking forward to Jaguar implementing the new InControl system across the model range. It should hopefully take care of all the criticism they get for their older infotainment system
A bargain! What's with cnet doing crazy exotic cars all of a sudden. We get it already!
I went to the Jaguar factory and saw how the XJ, XF and F Type being made. Also saw the F Type Coupe
3:58 badass exhaust sound
Would get the JAG ALL DAY. tired of seeing the AMG/MERCEDES & M/BMW. WOULD CONSIDER AN AUDI BUT THE JAGUAR LOOKS ALOT BETTER. INSIDE and OUT. CHEAPER TOO!
Ahhhh the multimedia system. The system that only us British can understand
I would still buy a Jaguar XJ over a S Class or 7 series. Definitely the best driver car of the two...
Your reviews are the best
A review of an ultimate driver's car, the Jaguar XJR and the reviewer spends 2/3 of the time nattering on about how the touch screen and the seat heater controls are not exactly to his liking.
My 1999 XJR does not have all that touch screen malarkey. I don't need it. But what a drive ....
And that's why I will be getting one because you don't see them that often so you stand out more
On my 97 Jaguar xj6 and my 04 Jaguar xjr both go to the highest setting for heated seats
This guys on speed
everyone hates on brian but he has a point keep it simple not put sixty buttons and tons of work that is distracting and will result in a wreck of your jaguar
Johnny, the late 90's model is more reliable than the 80's. They have pretty good ratings on cars.com and edmunds. Of course a lot depends on each individual owner's maintainence and sometime pure luck.
In one model year Jaguar did something Lexus and Infinity couldn't do in a decade -- give us a sexy alternative to the Germans.
hi jaguar ....I willl!!
What color is that red he's driving?
you dont see them that often because they all in the repair shop. my friend had a brand new XK, failed to start after a short fuel stop, and the car is just over 2 month old. LOL
Somebody get this guy a pacifier.
they should get rid of all the other reporters and get this guy to do everything
like always very good review
instrument panel is all video? ;-)
TOP GEAR my ass, this guy is a legend
I love it
Can you guys do a video of a infinity q50
That looks like the most complicated infotainment system ever.
u
Great Introo!!!!
when can we get n-dash iPad minis..
this is rather an amature opinion about this Jag... not a review. and Im going to point out one key thing at the beginning of this vid. I think he was saying the look they chose to go with on the digital dials was outdated and not the digital dial itself.
Johnny HA The only car that needs a digital dial to keep up with rpm is the lexus lfa. Another thing he mentioned can be find under the term "skeuomorph". This guy knows definitely what he's talking about.
i like cooley but damn, he is hating so much here.
can you guys do the infinity skyline please
rear end is amazing
i drive a new jag tho and the UI is incredibly slow, and the GPS interface is horrid. far too many entries, no search, poor 'road choices', and also lag after every button touch
I can always tell who is doing the car tech video by looking at the likes. Tons of likes and no dislike - Cooley. About 20% more likes than dislikes - Goodwin. More dislikes - Cunningham.
Thanks Cooley! I wouldn't consider buying jags now
I love how Brian Cooley is always annoyed with the car audio-nav-video system. U can really tell the things he mentions bother him
I'd buy anything Cooley reviews.
I only watched this because Cooley was hosting.
this guy actually thinks a jaguar is an iPhone. it is a car. talk about how it drives and looks, my xj has no technical or electronic problems. you are extremely spoiled.
This is Car TECH not motortrend...
still. His references are terrible...
Bimmer Guy Like you should be talking...The only thing tech about BMW's is how much will it cost to fix the electronics.
Apple has paid cnet to use or talk about iPhone. That's why they talk about it on a Jaguar video.
Just paid ad. That's all.
Philip Paul Apple doesn't pay anybody to talk about it. The iPhone is the most popular device in the world. Only samsung would pay somebody.
I don't mean to get alll technical, but dank, dank, and incredibly dank dankness, but that does not mean I am 4:20 friendly, just tolerant. love cooley, but PLEASE stop comparing EVERY car to a BMW or Audi
Joel John Mathews Well between both of them, they control most of the luxury market.
Yes that is true, but he still compares a Camry to an Audi or BMW lol.
*Dang I wonder how much Benz or BMW paid for all the fkn hate against Jags! It's a great car, pretty, and it have a beast of an engine!*
Badass automobile.
The only nitpick I have with this car is that the D Pillars need to be body color.
Wow. 120? I'd even take a 335 beamer over this thing. Jesus. 120. LOL. I think the royal family should seriously consider switching their official car brand. I even saw the prince rolling in a Range. Aston would be a nice English car brand.
Would agree with you mate...
I wish he would shut up for a few seconds and let us heat that sweet v8 talk for a bit
CNET: Car "TECH"
If no cart makers can ever get the user interface of their tech... Why not just outsource it to other tech companies to do it better
I agree with the tech part
Why is he shouting?
This is my dream car , but I'm gonna shell out 120k+ what's gonna stop me from buying a Porsche or a BMW :(
Red White and Blue all the way Jags and Caddies anything else is undignified .... Don't need to much car tech just a blue tooth your phone can do everything.
straight hating!
I'm only here cause I saw the newer model on ride along 2.
Amazing car!!! Although I would prefer the new s63 amg
Bloody hell man..... and I thought women nagged! ..... this has got to be by far the most annoying motoring journalist I have ever come across!
This guy is reminiscing what he has been told after having sex......all is negative. From a different point of view, why doesn't he go to England and tell them how to build a Jaguar? Blah, blah...
4:53 "I love these supercharged Jag V8s"
old people always complain about the jaguar nav, only cause they are old. never had any problem with it.
Nit picking, rubibbish review
such a small screen!
