- Tips to add crackers and cookies for long-term food storage. Great for the grab-n-go bags!
I get my Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers at PackFreshUSA packfreshusa.c...
I really wish there there was a book or some more information on what size oxygen absorber with what type of food. After watching so many videos it gets overwhelming, I only started using Mylar bags and buckets a few weeks ago so I am very new to this. Thank you
I can do a more detailed video for you
@@pandemicprepsters5222 thank you that would be awesome, as I am new to this.
i feel the same. I just started and am looking in all the comments to try and figure out info on them.
@@pandemicprepsters5222 what's is name of those bags?

Thank goodness I came up on your video. I now know how to store my crackers. Thank you 🙏
16 Nillas are 2 servings?not in my house.lol
Hi from Tx : Good info l forgot about crackers for long term storage
I just came across your channel on UA-cam thank you for sharing this with us. Sending love from St. Louis, Mo.,
If you have a reliable vacuum sealer, you don't need to waste your money on oxygen absorbers. Vacuum sealing the crackers is all you need to do.
So as long as I am vacuum seal I don't need to put any oxygen absorbers in my mylar bags? Will it still last as long? I have a Nesco vacuum sealer I love but new to all of this!😊
The oxygen absorber removes the oxygen and leaves the nitrogen, which preserves the food. Vacuum sealing simply removes most of the air. It is not the same thing.
@@s.oliver5735 I never knew that. Thanks for letting us know.
I love LornaDoon Shortbread cookies! If they can be, what would be the proper way to store them long term? They come in a box with 6 cookies in each individual packets.
I would love to know as well!
What a relief! With your system I didn't have to buy any equipment - just self-sealing mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. PS: What size (for ordering) are your mylar bags? And if there are different sizes or styles of oxygen absorbers, which ones do I buy for that mylar bag? Thank you.
You may want to check that. It seems that the mylar bag has to be heat sealed.
I've been waiting for this very video ,you mention sealing later what did you mean is there a process to sealing the mylar bags
On the saltines why only one sleeve per bag? Why not a couple sleeves in each bag? Or maybe a gallon size bag and have four sleeves?
Yes, I was making these for my grab n go bags. So one each is what I did. But fill up the Mylar is fine. Just poke the sleeves to allow the OA to do its job.
Love your video. I’m new to prepping. Can you also pack chocolate chip cookies in this manner. Could I just pour the pack of cookies or crackers in a ‘gallon’ mylar bag with a 300 cc OA? Is that safe. Also, you mentioned that we should watch the fat content. Can you elaborate just a tad on that? I just don’t want to harm my grandkids by packing something in the wrong way. Hope to hear back. Thanks so much. 🤗
I often store cracker and cookies in Mylar! I am picking with when I store trying to do stuff lower in fat. Behind lower and that is no matter what fat will eventually go rancid. I’ve successfully stored chocolate chips for 10 years and many other things. The lower the fat the longer you can store it. For instance nuts I don’t store in my lar bags, I store those mason jars I still add an oxygen absorber because that slows the rancidity down and allows you to store nuts longer maybe double to triple the shelflife. If something does go rancid you smell it there’s nothing like old peanuts is sitting in the shelf and opening it up you know you don’t even need to taste of that it’s bad has that same smell.
@@pandemicprepsters5222 Thank you so so much! God bless👍🏽
Can Someone PLEASE help me with this question?? I have a few boxes of Fiber one bars that we love and have been hard to find. How do I store these for long term or short term storage so they will not be stale? How do we STORE PACKAGED muffin mixes, cake mixes etc? ANY help would be great!
THANKS!!!!
Dry mixes can be stored in the fridge, freezer, a cold basement, mylar bags, or dry canned. Dry canning doesn't need an oxy absorber.
I've dry canned some keto bars. I don't know why you couldnt dry can the fiber one bars? I know things with soy oil don't seem to last as long as peanut or corn oil products. Alaska Prepper opened M&Ms he'd canned 5 or so years ago & said they were great. Another video opened M&Ms canned 7 years ago & they were powder! Alaskan prepper does have a 'cool' not frozen or hot storage in his pantry. I really wish we had more root cellars around!!
Why do you have to poke the holes? Wouldn’t it stay fresher without poking the holes?
Great information.
I went to your link for the mylar bags and it stated that we MUST heat seal them for long storage. I didn't want to buy a heat sealer because they're not reliable and don't work after awhile and have to be replaced often.
Use a hair flat iron or place a board against one side of the top of the bag and use a regular iron.
Correct an iron works great, that was how I use to seal my Mylar. I used a cookie sheet as my Iron board. I love my hair straightener as a tool to seal.
Use your iron
Mine is very reliable and does a great job. Much more efficient than using an iron, but irons are excellent backups and great for larger bags.
Can you vacuum pack honey in jars?
@@joeking4389 I don’t see why you couldn’t
Can you use mylar bags in a vacuum sealer?
@@carlahabeck4051 a chamber style yes, but not your average machine. Most vacuum sealers can heat seal Mylar up to 5 mil
did you seal these with a sealing machine of any kind?
I seal mine w/ my iron.I place a small towel on bag so iron won't stick& iron over it several times. My daughter uses her flat iron to seal bags Both methods work great!!
Where do I get absorbers at.fidnt see them at Walmart .got a sealer I just got.

Thanks.
What size oxygen absorber would you add if doing crackers in a quart or half gallon jar? Thank you!
Quart 150 and 1/2 gallon 300
Did you use oxygen absorber with the nilla cookies?
Yes, I did!
How many bags do you get for the price? Thanks for the information
I’m so sorry somehow I missed this Jennifer the bags are sold in sets of 10, 25, 50 and 100. They vary in price based off the thickness and less or without a Ziploc you can check out packfreshusa usa.com and go into the shop section the website and go into the Premium Mylar bags sets and you can find these bags there. Let me know if you have any other questions
Look it up Jennifer. That depends on what size bags AND how many of each size you want. A pint size, qt , 1/2 gal, gallon, 5gal ???
you mentioned check on the fat content? i am new to this and confused..lol what size mylar bags for the saltines and grahams? also size of oxygen absorbors
Cheese It’s are high in fat so are Ritz
Omg!! I live burnt cheez its. They came out with an Extra Toasty Cheez It.
It says total fat 10%, saturated fat 8%.
Are these okay crackers to store?
I loooveee them.
It does say they have skim milk in them?
Can anything that says total fat 10% go in mylar? How many years?
What CC ox absorber pack are you putting in the pouch??
300cc for the 1/2 gallon aka 2 qt seal top.
Salteen crackers r gmo read the labels make healthy treats and store healthy food
I’m with you sister! Was thinking the same thing. I make whole wheat bread, rolls and crackers. I’m a newbie at it but it’s really not hard. If we are prepping, we should be storing healthy, non gmo, preferably organic foods.
Hi there. Do you put also an oxygen absorber into the mylor bags?
Yes, I do for all of these items.
But you didn’t us what to look for on the back??????
What size oxygen absorbers? The video was poking holes in bags nothing else no information here...
It depends on the size of the bags you're using. On a site that sells mylarbags or oxygen absorbers you often can find which size you need. For example at mylarshop (.) com/oxygen-absorbers . (no personal interest, just a page I used for my own as a beginner)
1 pint 50-100cc, 1 quart 100-150cc, 1/2 gallon 150-300cc, 1 gallon 300-500cc, 5 gallon 1400-2500cc.
Some food items will have higher oxygen content than others and require a larger oxygen absorber while some foods have less and require a smaller oxygen absorber. PackFreshUSA includes a food storage guide in with each order which covers most foods people store and the size oxygen absorber needed for each size bag used.
@@JH-tj9jd Great info too, thanks! It looks like Americans do have a lot more info for LTS prepping. I've downloaded some PDF guides from their page at .../learn. Nice to have.
I'm confused, I've seen those crackers aren't good for long term. That they get bad.
Crackers you can triple the life span to quadruple depending on the amount of fat content
@@pandemicprepsters5222 OK, this is chris from "Kentucky" just wondering, thank you. 🙂
Rancid but maybe somewhat longer. Saline’s last looooooong time
😳I thought anything with oils in them can not have OA’s because it can cause botulism? 🤫
Graham crackers and saltiness are ok? Where can I find a list of what’s ok? Please answer, this is an emergency to my emotional well-being!!! 😀
Hi, Linda! You can slow racidity of foods down, because fats are oxygen sensitive. You can triple to quadruple the life of foods with fats.
packfreshusa.com/learn/#Things-to-consider
There are a number of proper channels out there who say that no matter what storage method you use crackers and cookies will not store long term which is in direct contradiction to what you are saying in this video. So what do you say to that? Do you have any proof that it will store long term have you opened any crackers that were stored over a year and ate them?
I stored them several years ago, about three years ago and they tasted fine. 3 to 5 years max
I stored grahams in a half gallon jar and I didn’t even know about oxygen absorbers at that time and I opened them 5 years later and they were perfect.
Who can afford mylar bags like this
One of the benefits right now of storing food is food prices are increasing dramatically so if I can buy something and store it I’m ahead of the game. Specially book bulk items like rice servings you get a better deal on and store them for longer-term. I have found great deals on markdowns price that’s normally $20 for six or seven dollars I store that rice. Carry a variety of thicknesses of Mylar sets. Of course the higher of the quantity of the set the better deal, maybe you can go in with somebody and get 100 quantity instead of the 50 quantity and you’re saving more money. I also included coupon codes that was 10% in the comments/description
...They're just like $20 for a big pack of them on Amazon
The bags are cheaper on Amazon
