This is a beautiful series that masterfully deconstructs the "beautiful medieval Japan" and "good white saviour" tropes and shows our society and people (white or not) for who they often r - hypocritical people cruel to each other who excuse their actions by "honour". But it is also so much deeper then the surface description I just gave it. Thank u for this video on this show, it's always interesting to find out historical inspirations behind such stories.

The significant and obvious historical error in this series concerns firearms. The show gets this point completely wrong. What most people in the West don't seem to know or understand is Japan was introduced to guns, namely the arquebus or matchlock by the Portuguese in the mid-16th century. Almost a century before this series was set. The error is Japan took to using and making guns like the proverbial duck to water. Their entire way of conducting warfare changed almost immediately through use of guns. By the end of the 16th century, at the pivotal historic battle of Sekigahara matchlocks were fielded in huge numbers by both sides. Some historians argue that Japan likely had more firearms in use than anywhere else in the world, including the West during this period. While some sword fighting on the battlefield remained, it was largely spear-combat, but only after combatants had closed to melee range through a hail of musket balls and smoke. Perhaps similar to the battles of the English Civil War, although the Japanese were doing it half a century earlier, and on a bigger scale.

Thank you very much for this video! Blue Eye Samurai is a true artistic masterpiece, but has a lot of unnecessary violence and shocking and disgusting moments.

That is what sells it, and the character.... a person out for cold revenge, not caring about what they do to achieve it,
