Even if the coyotes can’t get to the chickens, they are causing the chickens stress and anxiety.

  • @billmonroe8826

Don't be afraid to use a larger caliber as a 22 drops pretty fast and you probably need a little more yardage because more than likely they won't come in all that close. But there's advantages to calling coyotes in during the day. If nothing else set a trap around your chickens and that 22 will work just fine in the morning. lol

We have had a horrible problem with coyotes in the last few years. They were getting my barn cats right outside my back door. I've gone from a cat pack of about 20 down to 3 tomcat kittens and 1 female kitten. The mice and snakes are now getting bolder and raiding the chicken coop as well. There are state trappers here that we can call and have them come out. I know that a rancher not 2 miles from me almost lost her 2 dogs and has had to chase them off newborn calves this past year. Good Luck!

We are having the exact same problem right now just this week we have lost 2 of our beautiful ducks and one of our Easter egg green egg laying chickens! One of my ducks is missing an eye From the Coyote but manage to escape. I can hear them yeeping and howling at night thank you so much for that info on using that red lens on my flashlight I had no idea what that thing was for.And the app that makes the Coyote sounds will be helpful as well! Tonight I'm going hunting ! I am an animal lover and I understand that they have to eat but they are killing my food and I'm not gonna compete with lower creatures on the food Chain for food! I'm an extremely peaceful person but don't mess with someone I love or my food! Anyway thank you for your channel we have been subscribers for about 3 years now !😊

If. There was. And should there have been. An effective. Sensible. Simple. And cost-effective manner to rid areas of canine-type pests. Would it have been introduced. So for up to now. Was none known.
Although. Did I personally rid 2,400 hectares of game farm land from any remaining black backed jackal. About three decades ago. So is the proof in the pudding.
Matters exclude any kind or sort of poison. No shooting. No trapping. Or any laborious tasks. Is raptor friendly. Most cost-effective in relation to magnitude. And the mentioned excursion proves effectiveness. So am I offering consultancy as to how it is done.
So can the modus operandi be made public. Without any State or Federal approval. Although do I deem it wise to attempt reaching mutual consensus.
If there is anyone able to set up an appropriate link can a coyote infestation. Anywhere. Be nipped in the bud!

Do what you have to, Mike. I've had a lot of problems with tree squirrels this year, ripping out all the new flowers I planted. Since I live in the city, I can't shoot them. One tried to climb my pant leg once! Wild animals can be dangerous, they can be rabid. I too would be concerned about the baby calves. Thanks for showing up Marty again. Sounds like they have lost there fear of people. Someone is feeding them! Isn't it cute he's crawling on my hand! , Bite! And they don't know why! Maybe it's because it's a wild animal! Always and for most! There doing a disservice because the squirrels will not gather for the winter.

Ive gotten 4 coyote in the 2 years we have been out here... the hubby got 2 just leaving the driveway for work... these dudes arent a joke... and it dont help we have a pond and deer hide out here... be safe!

Mike, it may be worth checking with both the local fish and wildlife as well as the district agricultural offices to see if their predator specialists could review the ranch layout and recommend any other cost effective practices which discourage coyotes from considering ranch livestock as easy meals. As for the rifle, I’d go with a more powerful cartridge as others have suggested. I’d also check with your neighboring ranchers to see what effective coyote prevention practices they employ.

Three S’s in Texas…shoot, shovel, and shut up. We’ve not had any issues with them but a few of our dogs are pit mixes. Sweet dogs but coyotes are no trouble for them to keep ran off. Coyotes are smart enough to avoid them. Wolves would be another matter but we don’t see them around here. Our major issue is feral hogs. Those we have to either trap or shoot. A big sow is just too damn mean. She’s liable to stand and fight as move on. Like coyotes, there isn’t a season or bag limit on them.

Oh my goodness, just watching you get ready to hopefully shoot a coyote, sorta made me chuckle.just today, I dug out all my hunting gear, got it washed, and then of course,it rained the remainder of the day. Our hunting season is the month of November, ending the weekend of Thanksgiving. Annually, about this time of the year, we launder everything, and then hang it outside, to get any soap smell off, and then it just smells like the outdoors. Deer can smell humans, so we do what we can, to deter our scent. Being that I am 79, I’m going to give my gear to one of my granddaughters, as she loves hunting. I am, however going to keep my 22, as we have coyotes out and around my back yard. I used to hunt with a 30-06, one of my sons has that rifle. I enjoyed watching you gather up the cattle, and put them all together in one pasture. It tickles me, when they all seem to know where to go. Have a safe and great week! Bev in Maine

Hello, Mike. I wish you luck with the coyote hunt. Have you thought about putting the Red Light up higher on the barn to get a wider field of view? Also, it would make the ‘Caller’ less visible to the coyote. And you looked very visible in the open barn. Maybe put a structure of some type to hide behind; might leave it there a week or more so the coyotes become accustomed to it and won’t be nervous about it. Possibly could improve your chances of some kills! Hope everything gets better and good wishes to You, Erin, Jeff, and all the Kids! I just knew someone would think it wrong to kill coyotes. I remember a rancher tell the veterinarian he found a litter of them in his pasture. Got the real story about the danger to children, pets . They are so brave they are on the beaches and subdivisions . They will take a small dog from your yards

    • @OurWyomingLife

Yes, Im sure some people will, but I'd bet they dont understand what dangers Coyotes can and do present to a family pet, livestock or even to people. Thanks for watching Miss Carmen.

@@OurWyomingLife We have controlled coyote hunts in our area of Minnesota. The hunters here are licensed to "take" a certain number of coyotes and it sure has helped everyone. The hunters get paid a certain amount per hide/pelt. Every rancher who has animals, has to take care of those animals, & do what needs to be done to make sure their animals and families are safe!! 👍

It’s your livestock your land you do NOT need to explain!
People if your not getting WHY they NEED to get these animals out of their barn yard and keep track of the cattle out in the fields they can bring MORE it becomes a Buffay for coyotes possibly wolves and any other predator animals that are out there it’s just a hudge problem if not nipped in the bud!
So happy to see everything progressing !
And I miss seeing the kids they are funny and more of Erin she’s so amazing, so are you and ranch hand of the years!!!!

You are quite correct. Livestock does deserve quality of life. I grieved when I had to let my fair animals go but in my heart I always knew it was the right thing to do. Replacements take spots real quick. Where I'm from it's the coyotes and wolves that can cause great havoc.

Check out Jackson Galaxy's UA-cam channel & his merch.
He highlighted this motion activated canister that sprays water, to discourage neighborhood cats from coming around.
Maybe setting up one of these on each side of the chicken enclosure to spray any coyotes that come near. It just might work! Cheers, Latma.

So interesting to me right at this time, because 2 days ago a really really BIG COYOTE CAME RIGHT UP TO my back porch and my little house dog Rico alerted me! I couldn't believe the nerve of this damn coyote! It was right around high noon. I keep my 22 long rifle loaded at all times as well, and as well as my other fire arm, my Red Ruby long barrel six shooter.. It's also a 22... Gets the job done everytime if you know what you're doing!

After you kill one we always hung it on a fence post and it detoured the others from coming around or drag the carcass along the fence row by the house.

I like to snare coyotes when they use the same spot under the fence. I like 3/32 cable with 11" loop 11" off the ground at the bottom of the loop! Drag any dead stock over by fence about 50 feet away and let the yotes feed on it and then you will see where to set your loops.

I live in a very small town in southern Utah. We have coyotes come in day and night. Because I live in a town I use a shotgun. My husband has always had this job but due to a severe back issue he now carries a cane. That makes shooting off hand impossible. Good luck.
