When I turned 16 (2018) Smino happened to be playing in a ballroom in my hometown. I spammed his instagram with 10 comments saying that I was a skinny white kid in a blue jean jacket in the front row, and that it was my birthday. When he came out he made a joke saying to everyone "this n** was up in my comments talking bout im a skinny white kid in a blue jean jacket in the front row" and made everyone chant "blue jean jacket." Then at the end of the concert he brought me for a song on stage lmfao. Such a charismatic, funny, and talented guy

Love the production.. I was telling my buddy it’s like a prince album or something.. it’s all very original and fluid..I don’t know if it’ll catch on commercially with great success but i think this is like an epic album for this genre and generation.

Seamless cohesiveness is rare in today's album projects. Instant classic.
Album sequencing is a lost art it seems. Even if you look at early Drake vs current Drake you'll see how it's like he's totally forgotten how to make an album flow and feel cohesive
I think more ppl listen to songs, not whole albums which is quite sad because listening to an album makes you appreciate it more, imagine reading one chapter from a book and call it a day. As Callum Lambkin said, album sequenceing is an art indeed, so many great examples of it (Pink Floyd comes to mind, but there are much much more)
Louphoria is one of my favorite songs on the album.

Bam 2X, Kovert, LMF, Merlot and HOOPTI were my favorites off that.
smino is the future, legit a breath of fresh air whenever he hops on a track and he never fails to amaze me on a track.
this man quite literally had uzi sliding on one of his better more infectious features I have ever heard him on, while having cole acknowledge him as a young goat

The lil Uzi feature shocked me. He came in so smooth.
When I heard Smi's first album my first reaction was "this guy reminds me of Mac Miller, Chance, Isaiah, Anderson Paak, JID, Saba, etc" but in my opinion that's just a way for your brain to comprehend something thats like nothing you've ever heard before. Sure there's similarities but I never felt for a second he was too derivative of anyone.
The good things you said about this album were the same way I felt about blkswn and NOIR; unique, catchy, playful, soulful, clever bars and seamlessly cohesive. Maybe it just took some time for you to get used to his style :)

This is definitely his best project imo, his unique cadences, vocal inflections, flows, and singing all blends together beautifully with the groovy and often soulful instrumentals. His bars are also quite unique, not just with clever lines but with the way he can spin “generic” quotes in his own way. I also love the way this album flows, every track goes into the next so smoothly. 9/10, one of the best this year imo
Favorite tracks: Blu Billy, Pro Freak, Matinee, Modenaminte, Pudgy, Curtains, Ole Ass Kendrick, etc.
Least favorite: Louphoria

I been with Smino since 2015 and he was the first artist I'd ever been willing to see twice live in a year. I thought blkswn was a 10 but I knew it was just a matter of time before he put out an album that everyone could love and the minute I heard Luv 4 Rent I knew this was it. I honestly think he's going to keep improving. Smino's got such a unique blend of soul and charisma to him and it just oozes out of his songs. Its his personality that makes his music great and that just isn't going anywhere.

What also makes this album great is that it is instantly immersive. Play the first track into the second and the mood claims you. I feel like I could listen to this album at any time of the day and it will put me in this super chill, tender space.

This album is great it grows more every time I listen to it
People (including Fantano) listening to Louphoria... Did we listen to the same song? Sparse? Non-technical? The way the many intro parts start out of sync, then slowly grow closer to being on time together, ultimately colliding once the drums kick in is amazing. I'm not an expert with DAWs, but I can't imagine how difficult that was to make sound so smooth.

I didn’t really expect to dig this. First song, I thought pretty decent. Then on 90 Proof I got that Stankonia vibe, and that’s my sh!t, maybe my fav hiphop album, so he grabbed my attention, and I listened to it all. It’s definitely good. Not my fav hiphop of the year, probably not even top 5, but probably top 10, and easily a very strong 7, probably more a lite 8.. Dig it!
