Great video! Im glad you did this in your back yard instead of a lift lol. Makes it easier to relate. Where should i place some jack stands though? Just on the front pinch welds?
You can certainly do that if that works for you, I just found the process to be easier for me. Most definitely more than one way to change a shifter linkage U-Joint!
So that fork part the joint goes into that has the push pins... it doesn't come with the TS part likr it does the OEM. Does that pin really need to come out, and does the fork need to come off, when the torque solution part doesn't come with that? Looks like it's the hardest part of the job and maaaaybe not needed?
After installing a new U-Joint you starting hearing a knocking sound while driving? Hmm, record under your car while you shift through the gears in the U-Joint area and see/hear where the knocking is coming from.
@@subearu thank you I was able to! It was the circular plate that holds the front bushings hitting the new linkage. And two bolts to the trans support was lose. Thankfully it wasn’t the driveshaft!
I found it to be easier to take out the U-Joint pin when the shifter was disconnected. This allowed the U-Joint to have some wiggle room down there. Hope this helps!
Did you have any issues with getting into the lower gears? 2/5/R? (Before install) I’m having issues getting into reverse and from what I’ve been able to read they say this is what needs to be replaced… I also have an 08 wrx
I don't really have any issues with the lower gears or any gears for that matter. I think this is definitely worth a try, it would be a pretty affordable fix if this is the issue. Good luck!
I hate that I was late but he forgot to mention in the video that the U Joint goes in a specific way....... its offset. So if you have trouble getting into gears, then you have to reinsert the U Joint the other way. He must've done it by chance and got lucky or forgot to mention it or didn't even know

Dual Catch can setup

Thanks, I appreciate that! You can place jack stands on the front cross-member and rear differential as well as the frame rails.
Isn’t it easier to just take the cross-member off to have the transmission hang down a bit and just change it that way?
You can certainly do that if that works for you, I just found the process to be easier for me. Most definitely more than one way to change a shifter linkage U-Joint!
Keep up the good work!
Trying to, thanks for the support!
Awesome video man!
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Would you suggest doing the linkage and front and rear bushings at the same time?
I absolutely would! You're under the car in the same general area anyways, might as well get both out of the way if you're going to replace them.
Did you hear more noise or feel more vibration with this change ?
It was actually the opposite, I heard less noise and felt less vibrations.

If you can change it without removing the fork then great! I removed it all to get the U-Joint to fit in the fork correctly.
Did you have an inner snap ring?
Mine did not, but if you have one in your car then just take it out as well and you should be good to go!
great video! did shift effort increase considerably?
Thanks, glad you liked it. I would say that it feels like less effort to shift now with this new one installed.
Hey man. I finished mine and now there’s knocking while driving, any idea?

@@subearu no sound while shifting only when driving
Hey bud, did you ever this one out?
@@subearu thank you I was able to! It was the circular plate that holds the front bushings hitting the new linkage. And two bolts to the trans support was lose. Thankfully it wasn’t the driveshaft!
Great video. Thanks!
Of course, glad you liked it!
Whats the point of disconnecting the shifter.
I found it to be easier to take out the U-Joint pin when the shifter was disconnected. This allowed the U-Joint to have some wiggle room down there. Hope this helps!

the shifter in the thumbnail looks like a bowling pin xD
It does! That's what I get for having a white shift knob.
