This video rocks. My bushings keep disintegrating ,2nd time in 6 months. I'm stuck in 1st gear currently, 2nd gear last time it happened.. I have replaced the bushings. But failed again Goin to subimods now to order new assembly. Thanks for the walk through 🤜🤛
Thanks for the video just got my 2020 sti window sticker says short throw shifter option installed on mine , but enjoyed the info on this video keep them coming!!
Great video! Sorry you went through all that just to find you already had a short shifter. But not a total loss as your video will help many people with their installs. I bought my bugeye new 19 years ago. Very first mod i did was install the Subaru short throw shifter (using a jack and jack stands in an apartment parking lot). Many years later i upgraded to the Cobb shifter which gave REAL short throws. That made the car fun to drive all over again and i wish i had done the Cobb upgrade as soon as it was available. I already bought a Subaru STI short throw shifter for the '22 BRZ i have on order. It's an option but i need to make sure it doesn't already have one installed from the factory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wrong gasket? looks like turbo to downpipe not downpipe to midpipe Anyway you literally have the best install vids, better than the shops and aftermarket manufacturers put up for their products.
Man, that must have been a facepalm moment! But, it was a very well-done video and good to know that the short-throw shifter is the factory default. Also, great to know about the shifter bushing if that ever needs to be replaced.
Are we certain of that? If you build one online it gives you the option for a short throw shifter or not for $500, so what shifter comes when you opt out of that?
Interesting if the 2020 does come with the short throw shifter standard. I have a 2020 ... need to do some research now. I had a 06 LGT and put a COBB short throw on, was great being adjustable. Made my shifts super super super short.
Glad my 2020 came with this option already installed, dealer even gave me back the long throw in the box for whatever reason, I guess to to sell or to prove it was done?.Great video
WOW LOL... what a bummer.. But great attitude and im sure many people will appreciate the great install video. Did you put the new one in or the original?
A great video brother. I just had a weird thing happen to my 2020 STI in May this year. I took my 2020 STI to Irvine Subaru out here in Ca where I live for my 30K service. After the service my shifter scraped in 4th gear, I took it back and after a week it migrated to start scraping in 3rd gear. So my STI was basically in the shop @yhe dealer for a month and I couldn't understand how that happened. I finally received the STI back and the head mechanic told me that they replaced the 4th and 3rd gear Synchros and a bunch of other parts. It shifts like a dream now. But it shifted great before the 30K service. What do you think they screwed up if you don't mind me asking. I have never seen anything like that. A great video brother. Stay safe. Do you still have your STI? Subies forever.
Thanks for the video and support your channel.. quick question, how durable is the hand brake.. what happened was I find it hard getting in the car .. I usually get in the seat then use my elbow on the are rest to move myself to sit in the center.. today I got in I think I was holding on the hand brake instead of the are rest but just 2 second .. will I do any damage by pushing in the e brake and apply pressure? Thanks
I recently put in a Kartboy shirt shifter and everything went well but it was hard to get into reverse sometimes , then the Lockout got stuck up ….I reassembled worked correct but then it happened again after about 3 days is this an adjustment in the Lockout cable ? It almost acts like that cable is too long from the stock shifter ….any help appreciated!!!
Although you didn't install the short throw shifter I've seen some forum posts saying that the STI has a short throw shifter so at least you were able to confirm that so that's good. Also what phone mount is that?
Propeller shaft that was a new one for me. Im pretty sure most of the 15+ come with the upgraded shifter. Its not really worth it anyway. The community go to is the katboy unit or cobb. Dont see to many ppl wasting their time on the upgraded stock unit. Cant believe you were there and didnt upgrade the bushing and stuff ,as the rubber ones quickly loosen up. For reference the WL bushings kdt901 , kdt957 and group N mount will set you up nice and give you some longevity. You can cross these to your preferred brands. Youre not going to go back to the stock unit.
Does anyone know if the STI STS already comes with an upgraded front bushing? Subaru only sells the rear bushing as an accessory for the STS kit, but not the front one.
I thought it was common knowledge that if you have the red shift knob it's a short throw shifter. If you have the standard silver with STI on it. It's a regular shifter.
"Remember that the sti logo is LIT"
You're goddamn right
You’re an absolute godsend 🙏 IMO you’re the best STI instructor on YT
Thanks I appreciate that! Check out my other videos. Take care.
I can't wait to see what exhaust you go with! I freakin love this channel!
excellent video a lot of bigger channels failed to show the points that you have
Awesome vid man. Like always explaining everything step by step. I was happy I already had the short shifting but good stuff to know.

A brz shifter is super short already
Good to hear. Now all i need is my car to be delivered. Have been waiting five months so far.
Just ordered my 2020 sti 2 weeks ago and just ordered it so I wouldn’t have to bother later on. Nice info though man, fellow ny Subie owner✌🏼
Love your videos man....best Sti install vids on the internet 👍

That’s a beautiful shop!!! Seems familiar!! 😂😂.
Badass videos brother!!!

Great video. I Just ordered a kartboy short shifter with bushings for my 2016 sti.
Awesome job , love the video
Amazing quality video
Nice video bro 👍🏻. Subscribed
That vertical bolt with 14mm head and 12mm nut is killing me
WOW LOL... what a bummer.. But great attitude and im sure many people will appreciate the great install video. Did you put the new one in or the original?
Very nice video

Really don't like the stock shifter but I'm not going to have access to a lift anytime soon (2019 sti, would go with kartboy)

I did not see that plot twist coming!
Nice video boost. Very curious about the exhaust you will use for the rumble. Maybe HKS?

Yes that cable does have an adjustment which is likely your problem.
@@akqjtn thanks man Keep up the GREAT videos man The in-depth instructions are awesome and very helpful! I’ll let ya know how it goes!

@@akqjtn nice! I can't wait for the vid.
Short throw shifter isn't a standard option in the STI. Mine doesn't have one.

Question. How did the summer tires do in the NorthEast roads in the winter?
What would cause shifts to make a rubber squeak?
I'm surprise that you didn't get the Kartboy short shifter with all the bushings
Great video where can I get those grease?
Does anyone know if the STI STS already comes with an upgraded front bushing? Subaru only sells the rear bushing as an accessory for the STS kit, but not the front one.
Have you noticed any squeaky noises from the shifter area? I'm having it on my 2015. Wondering if it's normal.
I thought it was common knowledge that if you have the red shift knob it's a short throw shifter. If you have the standard silver with STI on it. It's a regular shifter.
Are you keeping this car within warranty?
so the 2020 sti all has the short throw shifter?
anyone know the part # for the stock assembly?
Nice
Man I’d be pissed. Did you throw anything off camera? Lol
What a bummer, a very conclusive video nonetheless
I do all my work on axle stands. Never come across a job a hoist is essential for. Sorry.
