Big Star meets the early Bee Gees was my thought, two bands I love. Singing reminiscent of early Robin Gibb, a sound so many have tried to emulate and failed.

So happily surprised that Melon is digging this record! I love it too, the first three singles had me hooked instantly, though even I think that sometimes the songwriting can be oversimplistic on tracks like "every day is the worst day of my life." But the compositions are so strong, especially the key changes on "Any Time of Day" I can't help but sing along. Great record, love the throwback sound this album goes for !!!
Great rec, I watched this review right before a fire started in my house so I figured I'd listen to it while I put out the smoke. It was a very surreal juxtaposition but hit pretty hard when "Everyday Is The Worst Day Of My Life" came on.
Beautiful, lush, nostalgic comfort but great songwriting and production. Perfect songcraft. S tier melodies and harmonies and… real emotion! I’m so glad you didn’t cop out on it. Kudos Antony!
I agree, these guys aren't doing something new, but it is so beautifully written. I remember when I discovered them. At that time we were 70 members in their official facebook fan-group including all the original bands members and their family members. It was a small world. Do Hollywood, is a masterpiece.
This album blew my mind with it's "anachronistic" sound. I definitely thought of The Carpenters and The Beatles when I heard some of the tracks. Glad to see them get the recognition!
I would categorize more as power pop than soft rock, but that's just me. Really good no matter how genre semantics may differ. The Lemon Twigs are getting better and better and still so young.
The Lemon Twigs are incredible. Such an underrated band. They're not only great songwriters but they absolutely bring it live. The whole "derivative" critique is sort of nonsense to me. Literally every band or artist has been derivative of someone that preceded them but the great ones make it sound fresh. I think they infuse enough of their own personality and ideas into their music to make it feel unique. Great music is great music and right now few rock bands are able to match what they have produced over the past 6 years or so. Their entire discography slaps and is loaded with gems but I think a lot of people just couldn't get past their faux rock star image which in itself was supposed to be tongue in cheek.
@@Teaminflament I think it’s only a discussion because of who their influences are. Nobody gave Nirvana, RHCP, Metallica, Green Day, etc. shit for sounding like the older bands from their respective genres. It’s my fav song on the record, masterpiece
@@essential_listeningit’s such a beautiful track, and really such a standout, it doesn’t sound like anything else on the record. I heard it first on a UA-cam vid from a 2021 concert and immediately was blown away.
@@essential_listeningalso not that it means much, but still it’s not enough is the lowest rated track from the record on rateyourmusic. I was genuinely shocked as I thought it would be a favourite among everyone
Still It's Not Enough being listed as a weaker track is crazy....
I believe the song “New to Me” is about the idea of suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s. It’s made me cry every time I’ve heard it lol
These guys are amazing and even better in person. The talent is surreal
I've not seen Anthony gushing over and speaking in an informal tone to praise an album this much in a very long time! This review is super cute.
Just saw them perform in Cologne last week, they're even better live
If Fantano had a brother with just as if not more musical talent than him, would they become the MELON Twigs??! I would like to think so. Which is why I am surprised he doesn't wear green as to convey his envy towards them.
They are not known enough. If they were more popular, he would shit on them
I had no idea who they were but checked out the record and it was great.
Yessss! Love this record.
