Bluegrass players always have good taste in music
I get a weird feeling this song was ment to be played this way. Goosebumps.
It was if you listen to early demo without all the other instrument’s
There is a concept in the Taoist philosophy of something being "central and correct." It means that something that hits that spot can be transposed all over the place and it still works
This cover is great two-fold. First, shows kurt's ability as a songwriter. Secondly, the ability of this group to see and transform a hard rockin' song into beautiful bluegrass. All around wonderful.
Except the lyrics are changed
Nirvana did a great cover of this.
Nirvana, they’re not bad.
Nirvana? Who's that?
Jk😅
Exactly.
@@mjackson74
They're saying No Apologies.
: )
ok, the singer legit looks like burt from tremors, and that makes me feel incredibly safe for some reason. Huge like
Michael Gross :)
OMW you're so right though! LOL
bassbeardiful you win the internet today. Couldn’t have said it better myself
He looks like mike ditka
Bro....lol
I love Nirvana and I love bluegrass music! This was a great blend of the two!
i'm a wildland fire fire fighter living in my truck. quarantine happened after i went across country and my girl friend wanted to leave me. this music is keeping me going, really appreciate it
Hope your doing ok Matt. Big hugs from Australia (:
I just stumbled across this. I hope all is well brother. Wanted to let you know you are a hero in my book. Prayers being sent out on your behalf!
I'm a huge Nirvana fan! You guys nailed this song! I love it, thank you for this 👍
I love how everyone is complaining about the one lyric change when Johnny Cash did the same thing for "Hurt".
BUT BBRO HE DIDNT SAY "GAY" YHIS IS VERY IMPROTEANT TO MEE
Big difference between Johnny Cash and Iron Horse. When it comes to making edits to a song you're covering, there *is* some etiquette involved. Cash was such a massively popular and well respected artist that he was able to do that without it being an issue. Trent Reznor was ecstatic that cash was covering him.
Also, maybe more importantly, cash didn't want to curse because of his religious convictions, which, even if I personally think it's a little silly, I still respect that. These guys were just uncomfortable with the word "gay", the phrase "everyone is gay". Discomfort was a big part of much of Nirvana's lyrics, that discomfort was part of the thought behind them, part of what makes them so good. If you're going to neuter the song like this without an apparent respectable reason (like religious convictions), then don't cover the song. Honestly kinda glad they self-outed their own ignorance and homophobia. They kinda just used Nirvana's song for their own popularity while they spit in the face of what Nirvana was trying to do.
@@rjmoney9 nin was pretty popular, just not as much on the radio
@@rjmoney9 I'm pretty sure they omitted that word because of their religious convictions, though....
@@rjmoney9 The reality is, that none of us can really be 100% sure why lyricists choose certain words, or what exactly their meaning or intentions were when they wrote a song. Artists have explained their lyrics, of course and in that case, we can be sure. But I'm fairly certain Kurt never confirmed exactly WHY he used the word 'gay', or what he meant. I could be wrong, and if I am feel free to correct me. If there is an interview with Kurt defining the term 'gay' and confirming the context in his lyrics, then by all means point me in the right direction. My point is, we don't know what Kurt was getting at when he used the term, so how can we be sure the message was positive?! That brings me to my next point... have you spoken with the members of Iron Horse? Did they happen to explain to you why they chose the word 'okay' and omitted the word 'gay'? Did they confirm in an interview the meaning and reasoning behind their decision to change the lyrics? If they did, I'm open to being correctly informed.
If they didn't specify their reasoning, then everything you're saying is an ASSUMPTION. You're assuming they're homophobic, you're assuming they're bigoted. There are so many possibilities, they COULD have changed it because of their religious beliefs, they may have felt that wording was more age appropriate (after all they have young, impressionable grandkids who listen very closely to their music, so perhaps they didn't want them hearing the message that everyone is 'gay'-not because gay is a negative thing, but because not everyone is gay and young minds tend to take things literally), maybe they just liked the sound of that phrasing more than the original wording. There are so many possible reasons, and I'm sure there are multiple reasons why they changed it. But of course, everyone assumes that it's a negative reason. Everyone assumes that they're automatically homophobic. I really feel that this is a classic example of what's wrong with our society today. People are so quick to judge and condemn, and often it's the very same people who preach love and acceptance who ASSUME, judge, and condemn the most. The 'love' 'acceptance' and 'equality' only extends so far, until someone says or does something that offends them, and without even knowing their true intentions and meaning, assign them an array of negative labels and refuse to give the benefit of the doubt.
Allow me to make something perfectly clear, I'm not claiming to know what Kurt or Iron Horse meant by their choice of lyrics, all I'm saying is that I'm not going to assume anything about them. Until they actually do something that is harmful, I will continue to appreciate their artistic contributions and commend them for their POSITIVE impact on the world. I don't know why Iron Horse changed the word, but until I know for sure, I will make assessments based on the behavior I have seen them exhibit, rather than assumptions. I've seen them behave in a kind and accepting manner toward others, so that is what I will assess about them, that they are kind and accepting, until they prove otherwise.
there's something about bluegrass, that enables it to trasform a chaotic grunge song into a thing of precision & beauty. it's really very good.
Picking on Modest Mouse was absolutely fantastic
Totally underrated.
One of my most favorite albums ever.
the alternate line to it that kurt sang were "all my words are grey"
I don't know why this comment section is so salty over some words. Kurt did covers all the time. He didn't feel bound to play all the same notes or words - even in his own songs. It's an artist's right to shape something how they like - that is what art is.
crush537 stop being truthful
i wouldn't worry about it...
won't change anything but you.
I can guarantee that Kurt would love this... If he was still here, I can imagine this is what the band would actually sound like.
Thanks for playing in a 🗝️ i can screem to 😝
When i get hooked, I don't flounder around ✌️😏
Excellent job from a big Nirvana fan.
Too bad I can't click the like button more than once. Great stuff!
The hallmark of a great song is that different artists can both do it justice and make it their own. Herbie Hancock also does a great version of this tune on The New Standard. A tribute to the song's true genius.
This was genuinely amazing!
Wow o' wow! Love that they filmed this on gravestones of people who'd probably like bluegrass.
I love the harmonizing during the chorus!

It's they're interpretation of the song. So they changed 2 words. It's a magnificent version. I wonder how Kurt would feel about this version.
"that's gay"...probably
Awesome reinterpretation!!!
this is more about the music he wrote than the lyrics. and this is great music.
All alone is all we are
Love this new style of blue grunge! Guess I’m easily amused.
All in all is all we are.
Am I the only nice comment in this thread for you people who have such high intelligence you obviously didn't learn that if you don't have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all Ironhorse you guys are one of my favorite bluegrass bands keep On the picking
