I wholeheartedly agree with Somas subclassing over multiclassing comment but still excited about giving it a try when it goes live! Love this Skinny Pete episode ❤
Pete’s control scheme is so much more in depth then I previously thought it was. Thanks for conducting the insightful interview 😂 I’ve also been begging for passive / PvE only spell regen FOREVER so it’s a great thing to hear a non wizard player echo my feelings. Nothing feels worse than getting caught with your pants down with no resources because you were forced to use your entire kit taking down a mini boss chasing you.
Emaciated Peter, my favorite lizard! (Don't tell Sparky!) You did great, my friend! I watch your content because you're one of the best at pushing the boundaries and I've learned a lot from your tutorials. I can't wait for what shenanigans you come up with for multiclassing. Only someone "built different" with autism can come up with these ideas and we appreciates that about you. As someone with pretty much all the same ADHD and adjacent symptoms, I wish more people understood what you were talking about on stuff like "flow state", "masking". I hope you feel more comfortable talking about that on your streams.
Great pod fellas! I feel like I have to say - Pete is so articulate, well spoken, knowledgable, and just seems like a really good guy. These increasingly social encounters will be challenging, but his willingness to step up just goes to show why he is so successful. Pushing himself in and out of game on so many levels. Keep on conquering !
Resident controller player here, I pulled the trigger on the Azeron Compact Cyborg (my towers are shorter than Pete’s) based on his gameplay. I am now a proud mouse/Azeron player thanks to Pete! I had my eye on it for months, I wanted to find someone actually using it before I got one!
Well the patch notes just went up and "Now all classes can play an instrument." So Pete can do the drum build xD This multi classing experiment could lead to good subclasses that do the kinds of things that people seem to be building using multi class. Like the why are those perks the ones someone uses on warlock, why does that ranger pick those perks. Like what are they trying to do? Then make a subclass that focuses on that sort of game play but not exactly in the same way as multiclassing works.
jay said what no one wants to say we want new maps more bosses new mobs that are not just re skins of mobs we all ready have the mobs in ice abyss are not new they look new they cant even fix the mob aggro in the skeleton modules in ice cave i want arena to be a gladiator arena with a tavern where we can bet gear/gold on fights the shit talking and just a local hub to met people in the community would be so much fun
This is perhaps my 2nd commend on UA-cam ever (if not the first). Pete . . . you are a BEEEEAST of a player. Very brave and cathartic of you to share your journey. Keep playing for the thrill and enjoyment of it my friend. Pay no mind to silly comments. This is what true gamers are about. You.freakin.little.monster !!!
For the map ideas you guys were talking about I would happily give my first born for a Vermintide style map. Teams could have several different routes they could take to get the end/extract. Along the way there could be a few different loud and obvious wave defense/mini boss fight check points to get to the next zone that other teams could fighter over, set up ganks, sneak in after, or simply opt to take a different one entirely. Throw in a scattering of roving patrols and grimoires (a special item that takes up a utility slot but gives bonus points when extracted with.) and you'd have dozens of hours of new content. Dark and darker already has a winning formula, thats why we all still play. They just need smaller tweaks on the bones of the game like a map that offers different approaches for each play style and favors strategic macro decision making. And maybe not a change that fundamentally breaks a core tenant of the game's design, class identity. Regardless, it was another great pod cast guys; huge Skinny Pete stan and would love to see him on a round table pod if he's up for it!
pete's idea on wizard being able to get their spells back via mobs, what I think it should be is, a perk. Mana siphon, every melee hit refunds some or a percentage of spells. Opposite of Warlocks' lifesteal melee perk, meleeing mobs isnt something wizards want to do, but need to do so if they dont have spells. This perk allows wizards to be able to clear rooms without having to sit down afterwards.
Hey man! Love the content btw, im sure you get dm's all the time from people so i hate to bother you . i actually was really putting some thought into this multi-class system and wanted to share something that i think would really improve / reduce the effect that its had on the game and improve upon it if this is something the devs want to keep in the game. In its current state multi classing is allowing to much upside to taking what ever perks we choose to take. in order to add some (balance / draw back) I personally was think the following //// remove the class system and implement a stat sheet system, open all the perks and skills to all characters. /// in order to use certain things you require a certain stat level to use it. by doing this we can restrict how many "game breaking or overpowered builds are in the game" we will be able to restrict a (barbarian build from having sprint as well as second wind through the stat sheets system by making the stat distribution counter intuitive to what a barbarian build is going for. through this system we can narrow the # of perks that a player can take that makes them a "catch all with no counter" my hope is that with a stat sheet system you will be able to get 1 maybe 2 benefits of another class but still maintain the core feeling of your desired "build" id love to hear what you think and if you like this, feel free to share it i just want to see the community happy with what could be an amazing feature to the game.
I feel the main 3 problems for DaD are progression, matchmaking, and population. The systems in place not including multiclassing for progression are good, along with the quests in place to push for more engagement in the game. But once you reach the peak of gear or if your stuck in the lower levels not able to grind against these higher level players is where the problem is it. I dont know a solution to the problem other than small adjustments other than new big patches that'll die in a week or two.
The grind and progression should be towards things that give you fun cosmetic items and throwables I.e. fireworks event items like old osrs events. Chicken swords for Easter and throwable pumpkins for Halloween
I feel like there's a bunch of different ways they could go with this and a lot of those ideas actually come from other table top RPGs. Example 1 is how Pillars of Eternity has cross-class talents where you could learn 1 predetermined ability or spell from another class but it would be a weaker version of it. You can pick all of them but they will never get as strong as the base-class version of it. Example 2 is how Pillars of Eternity 2 allows for only 2 classes to multi-class. You get full access to everything from both classes but you must divide your experience points among both classes. However, each class has high level abilities or spells that can only be granted by pure classes (NOT multi-classing). Example 3 is, like you mentioned. Sub-classes. I don't really need to explain that. You just take a base class and add more exclusive stuff to it. Example 4 is how games like Pathfinder have hybrid classes which is like having a weaker version of two classes put together (limited access to both class abilities or spells) but also having their own unique abilities that neither parent classes have to make it different from all the rest.
The issue with multiclass is that the game is a pvp game, if this was a pve game this wouldn't be a topic at all and would be a welcome change. My main issue with it is that I have no idea what I'm fighting anymore which ruins pvp long term imo but it will be fun short term
I attribute Playin mordhau to why I was good at melee combat when the game first came out, I already knew the movement techs described because of that game.
multi classing shoulda been the skill tree, that way anyone wanting to stay a true single class, they can spec into it and have higher ratios and percentages for certain perks and skills for that class. Any foreign class trying to spec into a different class would have the ratios and percentages that are less than a true single class. They can master those perks and skills but that would take longer or require more steps to achieve for foreign classes Edit: Subclassing where its improvements on perks and skills we have already. example: rogue's stealth extension is naturally 40 seconds, subclassing in my mind would be, 10s, 20s, then 40s when this part of the subclassing tree is maxed. OR it can intertwine a little bit with multiclassing example: rogue has the lockpicking and trap defusing perk; it starts with just lockpicking, then adds trap defusing, finally gives rogue the option to place traps like ranger since he has access to caltrops OR theres thresholds to multiclassing... im really unknowledgable when it comes to actual DnD lore, so my head canon is that if i fused fighter and cleric together 50/50 they become a paladin. monk a combination of barb and slayer fighter. so multiclassing could just be a class creator.
Let's be real, if you are 58 episodes deep into watching a niche hardcore RPG podcast inspired by D&D then you might be a little autistic lol. Jokes aside, 20-50% of people with ADHD also have Autism, so I don't think It's as rare as people make it out to be, I think people just are unaware of the traits associated with it. Props to Pete for bringing it up and bringing attention to it, or at least a couple potential aspects of it. I think it's something more people should be aware of.
1st off good on you soma defending him, and 2nd of all skinny pete that isnt cheating i guarantee you if most people would be worse using that not better. Also cool on you sharing your spectrum disorders my dude
Exactly I was a console player for 20 years and just switched to PC and I used to complain so much about how overpowered m&k was and how easy it was to be good with. Now that i am using m&k I am absolute dogshit I look legit like a toddler on pretty much every game lmao so yeah most people would probably suck ass on the pad but still gonna cry how op it is.
Personally, I believe multi-classing can work in DaD if there were penalties were added to it. However, I do dislike losing class identities. I propose two paths, both with positives and negatives. @Soma take on sub classing is a great idea, so why not have both. Let's say at level 20 you have the choice to take either the multi-classing path or the sun-classing path. Once chosen, that character would be locked into that path. Sub-classing would allow you to dive deeper into your classes identity via new class specific perks and skills that aren't multi-classible, but lose out on the freedom to be able to multi-class. Multi-classing would allow you cater specifically to how you want to play, but you wouldn't be able to use the new skill and perks that could be stronger than the base ones while multiclassing, and if it were to stay the way it is, multiclassing would need some more restrictions. Maybe maxing it at 1 or 2 classes. This is what I would like to see. Making a sub classing tree that could rival the multi classing metals could bridge the power gap of the two systems. I also see the benefits subclassing would have for the more casual player base, and multiclassing could have for the hardcore side. It would take alot of work to implement both, but I think I like the outcome of the finish for both rather than one or the other.
first at all, skinny pete is great. i am watching him a wile. multiclass i just unbalanced and cannot be balanced. at the end there will be just 3 broken classes which are playable. bard is completly dead and ig this is not what the game should be. a barbarian is a "slow" hard hitting tank, he should not shoot with arrows, break doors with it and slow people with achilles, or get invisible and ambush backstep people!!!
What if instead of having classes you could make a custom character and just spend points to build him however you want and just have a long list of perks and skills

For an open environment map I think they could go the route where to avoid range meta there would be a massive dark fog that covers the whole map, maybe in a Dark forest type of setting. It deals damage if you stand in it for too long, [Demon Warlocks and Rogues with certain perks could have immunity for class based reasons as well](Think of Dark Aether from metroid prime2), light sources would open up pockets or tunnels into the darkness to reveal the path/area. speed of fog moving into an outof dark/light filled areas should be slowish to (like a heavy door that you cranked open in hunt showdown slowly closing back up)
I think you need a real sweat on the podcast who’s able to get classes above level 30. Love this podcast and dark and darker, Jay is becoming a bit Jayded unfortunately. 99% of the takes he has are extremely negative like why even play the game at this point. Oh wait, money.

Yes. Because the game wil fucking die within a month when the casuals leave. The hardcore players were already fucking complaining about empty fucking lobbies not but 2 months ago. Thnk of that again but more and more as people just leave. Yes they matter

Best podcast episode so far! Love Skinny Pete! ❤ he’s a pillar in the DaD yt community!
We should show support for skinny pete, we need more people like him to get into the game and make content. It's healthy for the game and community.
i agree with jay on the multiclassing take glad he said something
Awesome guest. Love it when Soma jumps in the comments with sword and shield drawn. Get those trolls!
Love this. He's SO PURE.
Great podcast. Skinny Pete was a great guest. I'm glad he was on for this week

Skinny Pete continues to be my favorite content creator for this game. Please bring him back.
I've been using the Azeron for almost 4 years now. 10/10 do recommend.

The Petecast was goated
I thought we had Jay talked into a vacation already sheeeeesh

I have the same tablet Pete has. I used it when creating drawings for my old job and it’s goated in size but the original pen is very flimsy.

Skinny Pete axels are sick, look up his video if you haven't seen it. (Axel, not to be confused with similar sounding accels)
Theres not going to be much fun to be seen when the actal multiclass meta comes out and if you're not using the most optimal combos you get rolled
