I love sofia and cedric's dynamic so much because she is genuinely the only one who respects him. he's always being belittled by everyone, even the king, and that's what motivates his drive for power and claim for the throne. sofia is the only one who hinders that drive because she makes him want to be a better person 🥺 (there's even the one episode where cedric complains that nobody thinks he's a good sorcerer and sofia replies with "I do" and he just goes "besides you" 😭)

It's always a bit weird when you see people online talk about shows like these. Sofia the First, MLP:FIP, all those shows that were essentially meant for preschoolers, and then you remember "Wait, adults made these" and then we recognize that, "Hey, they put some effort into this!" and we all come here to appreciate. I mean, Travis Willingham is King Roland. I repeat: the VA for ROY MUSTANG and GROG STRONGJAW is in a show made for 6 year olds. You can't say they wasted effort on this show when you have someone with that level of talent involved.
As for Cedric, I love how he's meant to be an antagonist, but a. he's just too incompetent to actually do any evil, b. Sofia implicitly encourages him to be a better person and think "You know, maybe conquering the kingdom is bad, actually", and c. I find it so funny how Cedric is essentially in a cat-and-mouse game of trying to get the amulet for so much of the early part of the series, and Sofia is just never aware of any of it. It's probably the most hilarious one-sided conflict I can think of in any fictional media. There's oblivious, and then there's this show's title character. (Does she ever find out? I stopped watching after fourth grade and I discovered MLP)
EXACTLY, honestly shows like this impress me because they're enough to hold even adult's attention sometimes.
I love cedric's character lol. you're right, he's funny and his chase for the amulet is one of the best aspects of the show.
to answer your question, spoiler warning below:
sofia does find out in season four that he's been trying to steal her amulet and take over the kingdom because he successfully freezes her family and when she comes to face him he can't stun her - sofia encourages him that "he's better than this" and he gets redeemed over the course of season four. also there's a really sick villain song in the same episode where Cedric faces his conflicts with taking over the kingdom, because he remembers sofia and how she's the only one who has treated him with care and an ounce of respect. I enjoyed his redemption arc
