Best review I've seen on the Rivian so far. Very thorough, yet to the point, honest, and entertaining. Especially the attention to smaller but important details like cabin noise, rattles, creaking, steering feel, etc. That gets overlooked far too often, especially at this price point. Keep it up.
I have an early R1T and its the same however its the handle where he's gripping and not the card. The card is very well put together. Huge miss that the one thing you grab makes a noise.
Funnily enough, a lot of car companies used to boast about having hundreds of them. We're now getting to where consolidation of compute and zonal architecture is cool, thank god.
This is incorrect. NACS is the North American Charge Standard hence the abbreviation. Yes, it was Tesla’s invention, but it is not Tesla-specific. Companies are currently working to adopt this standard. You were correct in that the port on this Rivian is indeed CCS. However, that won’t last long. Once 2025 rolls around, all new Rivian’s will come with a native NACS port and a lot of other companies will follow suit.
@@_zach Tesla invented, developed, and helped to standardize NACS, so it is indeed the Tesla port. “Erm, ackshually, Tesla made the port open to other manufacturers and adopted ISO 15118” is irrelevant to the fact that it is the Tesla port. I don’t call an Edison screw a “ANSI C81.61 and IEC 60061-1 socket ☝🏻🤓”
I've always liked the R1S, but I'm surprised at the noise at speed and under acceleration. They let a LOT of that electric motor whine into the cabin. At speed, there's wind noise, but that's to be expected given its shape, and then I can hear the tire whine from those ATs. I suspect, if you chose a different, less aggressive tire, there would be significant noise reduction just from that. Like you said, for $100K, I'd expect a bit better quality, but it's a nice truck. The Model X has always been a dream car of mine, but it has its issues, too. The Rivian would probably be better, but even in kneel mode, I'm unsure my 5'3 wife would be able to get into it comfortably. How do you make an electric SUV and not put electric step sides on it? Seems like a missed opportunity.
still have an r2 on reserve for 2026 but bought a tesla m3lr in the meantime. super interested to see the cheaper lucid also. if they made a model 3 sized lucid that's basically a smaller lucid air pure... that'd be perfect yeah? it's about efficiency for me... who is going off road really? 90% of trucks and suv owners lie to themselves.
Happened to all evs. Owning and using a vehicle irl is much more different than watching a UA-camr reciting the marketing talking points given to them by the manufacturers.
Test drove this a month ago and man it was fast. Only thing I was iffy on was the regen option. I hope there is a way to turn it off completely. Also, no Android auto sucked too. But man is it practical. The only EV I would ever have.
The infotainment is very good though, I don't miss AA at all. Regen can be reduced but I don't think turned off entirely. Once you get used to driving an EV most prefer the highest regen settings and rarely use the brakes.
Regen and one pedal driving is really a nice feature. Driving becomes so simple. No need to move between pedals normally, just feather the accelerator.
3:22 Not just climate control. There seems to be a bunch of added features there: a compass, what's playing via Bluetooth, a Bluetooth enable/disable feature (either for headphones or for passengers' phones), a light (or brightness) switch, etc. It would've been useful to get a proper showcase of that UI. I will give you props for improving the infotainment showcase on the front, which is nicer now, but you forgot the start-up entirely (it appears, albeit partially cut, when you're messing around with suspension settings).
I think this is a beautiful vehicle, however, the lack of physical buttons and having to do everything through the center screen terrifies me a LOT, which is why I haven't jumped on the EV bandwagon. Now that the Scout is coming out in the Traveler and Terra and they promise to bring back more physical buttons, I feel as though that should be an option from EV manufacturers. It is not that they can't create them, they choose to not. But I personally feel more buyers would be quicker to want an EV if we still kept some "traditional" settings. I think the benefit of an EV is obviously not using gas...but aside from that, there should not be a compromise on something simple as buttons and dials. Just my two cents.
Probably my favorite looking EV. I just wish some of the EV's would come with opening sunroofs. I love having mine open in my land rover but I don't know of a single one with an opening roof
@@Ben-jz3mt right. If you aren't the type to like electric, then there wouldn't be much reason to look any further. It's kind of a major part of the vehicle.

It needs wider seats without the flared sides on the seat and bucket seat back rests. This is not a race car. We want wide comfortable standard seats !
Was wondering what the tire lifespan is on that thing? I heard EV tires wear out about twice as fast as ICE vehicles of the same class. Those tires look expensive to replace.
That creaking is bad, hopefully it’s just that vehicle. Not going to sell otherwise. I sold my 18 f-150 for a 24 because it creaked so much. Unacceptable at any price point in 2024
No CarPlay or Android Auto?! I was already annoyed by the headlights and on the fence about buying one because they look like a Pixar character, but a distracting UI that doesn't make life easier at least with a MODERN mobile interface? I'm out.
Just sold my 2024 R1S, 6,600 miles and owned 10 months. Couldn't take the regularly occurring problems. Some of the problems were serious safety issues. Had the mobile service unit to my house 1/2 dozen times. Am I just a disgruntled buyer, YES, I lost $40,000 with this sale. DO NOT BUY A RIVIAN! You can buy a very reliable and defect free car for the $110,000 I spent on my MaxPack disaster!
I truly want Rivian to become a successful American car company, but they are heading toward bankruptcy unless they start selling more affordable cars. They are losing $30-33K per car they sell. This is not sustainable.
Why do people think the design is so good? Its just a squircle shape on wheels. So lazy and uninspired and "safe". The only thing differentiating it from all the other trucks/suvs are those lights

@MrToastyYT Crazy , my 19 Kia Niro hybrid Touring has full leather . My biggest gripe with it is the centre console where my right leg ends up touching is not padded . But our Niro was $35.000 Canadian 5 years ago . Cars now are certainly expensive .

Looking forward to that R3X! It’s the only EV so far I’ve been wanting to get 👀

I love my Tesla, but I could 100% see myself getting a Rivian next. Awesome cars and super cool CEO.
