LA based session bassist Peter Kastner performs 'Nardis' on this wonderful instrument. Swamp ash body with a koa top. Filmed by Mike Marasco in Hermosa Beach.
Years later this video remains my all time favorite and one of the reasons I play bass guitar. I hope to own a Rob Allen one day too. Thank you Peter! So good.
I've seen several demos of MB models but this is the first one that actually had a good tone-proof (if it were needed) that some of the magic is in the fingers.
I m fascinated by work of Rob Allen and at the same time my brain oscilate between awe pleasent feeling listening to RA basses and feeling annoyed or even disgusted by how it sounds in couple of clips on YT. And I agree, this Nardis cover by Peter Kastner pierced under my skin and via ears to my brain, having days when I cant get rid of this song, beautiful!!!
I should mention this is some of the best bass playing iv'e seen in a while. Brilliant balance in timing, melody, groove and technique. I still need to check the bass though.
Fantastic playing, technique & tone! I have several Electric Fretlesses, an Epiphone Jack Casady semi-hollowbody as well as a Taylor AB-2 acoustic bass guitar, but I'd love one day to make the jump to Rob Allen's Deep 5 fretless. The expressiveness is simply unbelievable... ;-D
This video is one of the reasons why I can't put down my fretless. So good Peter.
6 people NEVER got one in their hands.... shame...
Masterful! great sound and wonderful interpretation. Thanks!
The sound of the Rob Allen Mb-2 is fantastic ... the groove too !
I've been listening to this video many times. I've never get tired on it! Love this music!
Just picked up a Rob Allen MB-2 and discovered this video in the process. Fantastic instrument and incredible playing.
I could listen to this on loop to infinity.
Years later this video remains my all time favorite and one of the reasons I play bass guitar. I hope to own a Rob Allen one day too. Thank you Peter! So good.
...and now I finally own one! Pete you should get a commission.
I can't stop coming back to this, it's just so good. The reason I bought a Rob Allen.

Thats super great Peter. Can you tell me about the strings that you are using in the video?
Regrats from Argentina!
What was the recording chain for the bass? Incredible sound!!!
😮
The question is. Can you do that without looking at your fingers? I love fretless but how do you read a chart?
Nice performance and great sound! What strings are you using on the RA?
How did you record this? Sounds fantastic!!!
Sounds great!! what's the scale? it looks like a 33" to me.
One person doesn't like your green jacket...
