Yeah, I like the 24mm 2.8 on my 80d for surf, although it's not that light once you've wrapped a waterhousing around it. 😂. Seriously though I always seem to like the 50 1.8 images out of the r6ii.
such a wonderful and insightful video. you're right the camera and lens you use most often is better than absolute image quality, at least for my daily family photos. I got the 28mm pancake and loved it and it wasn't small enough with my r6mk2. I ended up getting a m6mk2 and that small size m series camera with a few lens does everything for me and my daily photos and i enjoy photography once again
thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it! Glad you found what works best for you, I think that's most important. Finding a setup you enjoy using and aids in you getting out taking more photos. I do think absolute image quality has a place in some forms of photography, but also overrated in others.
Great advice. The RF 35mm macro was the sweet spot for me, though it is the most expensive of the baby primes. It lives on an R5 and loooks downright goofy with the battery grip on there. I like using the Peak Design wrist strap so I can just leave the neck strap in my bag when I’m doing street photography.
Good video...I often switch back and forth among brands (living in Bangkok its quite easy to buy/sell/trade) I am currently using a pair of Sony A7c bodies...but the RF28/2.8 pancake is always in my kit when I am using Canon EOS RP system...I was thinking about getting a used RP and the pancake again just for a pocketable set when I am out and about. Cheers
@@richardgordon9428 good point, fair bit cheaper too haha I wish the 28mm on that cam was just a tiny bit more compact, sure it's an amazing lens though!
My second Canon 50mm 1.8 died recently, so I mulled getting another or the 40mm pancake. Everything was in favour of the 40mm except the f/2.8. I eventually went for the 40mm. It is almost comical how much better it is than the 50 1.8. Sharper, smaller, far nicer rendering. I don't miss the 1.8 at all. Anyone on the fence reading this - try the 40mm pancake!
Just bought a decade old Olympus omd. The pancake (though not a prime) is a ripper. I love my DSLR’s but it’s great to have the option of something discrete for street shooting and compact for travel. I like your style, common sense amid the sales pitches. Aussie UA-camr photographers get to the point. Blessed relief compared to mericns
Totally agree with that, I don't mind a heavier setup every so often for some things, but for day to day street and travel shots, you can't go wrong. Haha we just trying to keep it real down here in Aus ✌️thanks for checking out the vid!
Interesting video. I agree with you. I own only two lenses (well, three. But one is broken), the EF 50mm 1.8 and the RF 24-105mm f4-7.1. I use the 50mm mainly for night street photography as it is a faster lens, but I like it because at night, I don't want to think about my focal length but rather of my subject and composition. The zoom lens is for daytime street photography and documentary style photography.
Are you into pancakes? 🥞🥞🥞
Owned the RF 16mm F/2.8 for all of two days and sold it on the 3rd; it was a bit too wide for my taste. Perhaps this one will be more my cup of tea.
@@FranciscoAlvarezTV yeh I'd struggle to get a lot of use out of a prime as wide as 16mm! Great for vlogging but agree not my cup of tea for photos.

Love pancake lenses, I really want a brightinstar 28mm f2.8. I should use my modified disposable lens more on my R6 II

Couldn’t agree more! My 24mm 2.8 pancake for my Nikon Z6ii is the best lens in my kit for all the reasons you state. Amen brother.
Thanks mate glad it resonated with you! Pancakes for the win
This lens is a personal favourite for everyday photo/video! 📸💯
I have the 26 2.8 on my Nikon Zf, love it! Ideal small setup for daily carry, and so easy to toss in my bag alongside another body and longer lens.

Thanks Jay! I'm the same when using this 28, always switch up to the wrist strap, it's great just to walk around with for street photography.
Absolutely agree 👍🏻 Thank you

I’m running the 28mm on my R5 with a 1/4 mist filter and it’s a beauty for capturing day to day life!
Spot on! Exactly what I'm running here 🤙
oh wait im running it too 😅
My #1 priority. Form factor 🙏
Always a wise man Hoj!
Use the same setup. Love it

I have a 24mm and yes definitely my fav lens
Nice choice, I really like using 24mm as well! Bit torn on 24 vs 28, I think I'd just go 28mm though.

Hi I wanted to ask if you’re able to make a video on how to make a video out of picture(I have the R5 mark ii and it takes a lot of pictures at once)
You pres the record button.
I try to purchase your presets but I’m not sure if your page is down my payment isn’t going through
My go to is this 28mm on my R8. Great image quality and weighs nothing
