    High Cut vs. Damping: High Cut would be removing the frequencies of the signal pre-reverb. Damping is a more gradual and progressive reduction of the high frequencies during the reverberation. High Cut is at once, Damping is over time. High Cut is binary, on or off; Damping is gradual.
    A good way to visualize this is that High Cut is like a room that has foam treatment: it's really dark with no high frequency reverberation at all. Damping is what occurs naturally in any non-treated environment, as high frequencies tend to lose energy (loudness) with each reverberation much quicker than lower frequencies, so you get an initially bright reverb that gradually darkens.
    If you want a more "natural" sounding room, go with Damping over High Cut.

    I am a rugged, backpacking, gritty, underground hip hop artist. I do not like Pop or EDM.
    But after HOURS of your tutorials, I often find myself jamming to your music 🎶. Thanks for broadening my horizons. Understanding and dissecting other genres is important to being a good engineer, I think. You need to see what makes them tick, especially if you're working for a client outside of your comfort zone, as opposed to working on your own music.

    Reverb has always been my favorite toy. But in time I've learnt that it's so easy to either overdo it or just make it sound sucky and muddy the mix. Good delicious reverb seems to be an artform of it self.

    @Inthemix I'm a bit confused, maybe you can answer my question: I use a few instrument VSTs and they all mostly have the same reverb installed but in very different versions. Sometimes there is a room on one instrument, sometimes there is a reverb, different distances but all in all it doesn't sound bad together. Should you create a room on top so that all the instruments are in one room? Maybe turn off all the reverbs of the plugins and just one on the send and dip them all into it? (often found the sound less appealing). How is it correct in a mix? A reverb because a room or don't the various settings in the plugins bother you? I would be very happy if you could help me with this. Experiment and the question won't leave me alone. Kind regards Adrian

    Another trick learned: middle-click returns the dial to default value. Thanks!
    Btw why do high cut and low cut work in opposite ways here?
    i.e. when I push Low Cut to full, the Low frequencies are cut out, gone. Makes sense.
    but when I push High Cut to full, the High frequencies are in fact maximized, the opposite of cutting them away..
    Strange.

    • @AutPen38
      @AutPen38 2 роки тому +1

      I think it's unintuitive with those labels, but it makes some sense if you're familiar with a multiband EQ, where you have a brickwall sub-cut on the left (and move it right/clockwise to set a higher cutoff frequency) and a hi-cut on the far right (and move it left/counter-clockwise to increase the size of the effect). It's always a bit confusing though, as low-cut means the same as hi-pass, but we tend to do low-cuts and hi-cuts, which use the opposite kind of filters.

    In The Mix Hello! Obviously you guys are quite busy with your own music and all but if u could make a full mixing breakdown of a single track that would be awesome. I've been making music with fl studio for quite a while now but my tracks does sound like a mess coz i dont have enough knowledge of mixing and routing. This video and the fruity parametric eq video did help ALOT already but I wish to understand how to set up every single instrument in a track the right way so that it sounds "professional." Im sure a full mixing breakdown video would help alot of other bedroom producers to take their music to the next level.

Does the new one(the one on your desk) work?? if it does, an insight on how u mapped them would be helpful. I have tried the regular ways of mapping, but nothing worked. Its been 2 years now, i have it, only the touch strip, keys, and pads work. None of the knobs work as they should.
