I love the CART/Champ Car races! The 2.65L Turbo V8, the sleek chassis, it was the best! I feel like the current IndyCar series is starting to get back to it's CART heyday, but it's not there yet.
Really enjoy the quality of the official series broadcasts but not having the on-screen graphics is super frustrating. Kinda silly when you can watch someone’s old VHS copy with full graphics but the official Indycar copy doesn’t have them.
Whoa! I started watching full season Indy Racing by following the CART series. I never understood why St. Petersburg, was always on the schedule. Now I do. Thanks for posting this race!!
How something so stunnig as CART/Champcar lost its space for IRL and had to merge with it and not the opposite?... man... Champcar was surreal! It represents the real American open wheel racing!
Gosh I was in the 7th grade when this race happened. I didn't have cable so a girl who had a crush on me video taped it for me. Pretty sure I still have that tape somewhere...
I always kind of liked it when Derek Daly deployed his catchphrase "… will put the cat amongst the pigeons." Enjoyable race with no on-screen graphics.
The next Classic Rewinds I want to see is the 1998 Visionaire 500K as a way to celebrate Kenny Bräck's birthday on March 21 as it was his first IndyCar victory, and the 1998 Pep Boys 400K! That way all of the IRL races from the 1990s will have been back on UA-cam
Mario Ramirez not before NASCAR threatened to kill ALL of open wheel racing and Indycar off. The 90s boom they had was a big part in their expansion in the late 90s and early 2000s due to the split.
Putting those small number plates on the top of the cars roll bar or whatever it was called back then, right behind the drivers head, looked a little on the strange side, but also strange that ony a few of the cars actually had them, except for the ones that5 had those on-board cameras attached to them.....
Before they had to make all the corners more open for the IRL race so the laptime difference between the two series wouldn't be embarrassing for the IRL lol
Indycar showing us a quality video of the whole race and NO timing and scoring?? I don't want to sound ungrateful but jeez that's ridiculous and I don't want to hear whatever bogus reason/excuse they've got.
CART is beautiful
Tony George spoiled it
Better, in my opinion, than F1.
i love the look of the lola's they never grow old for me!!
Agree

SPEED channel..and CART GPs... ahhhh the nostalgia
Cicale is an aerodynamicist im sure he knows when the wind will change
20 years of Grand Prix of at Petersburg. Good times, good times.

RIP Speed Channel!

That's amazing lol. Gives me some nostalgia
God I miss these cars.
Man, do I miss CART!!
26:45 for the start.
Thank you
I miss these engine sounds.
i miss Paul Tracey fighting people
Even then they were rev-limited starting that year.
I always kind of liked it when Derek Daly deployed his catchphrase "… will put the cat amongst the pigeons." Enjoyable race with no on-screen graphics.
These cars looked so aggressive.

These cars were amazing! Man, I forgot how many big teams and drivers Champ Car lost between 2002 and 2003.... This was like a glorified F3000 race.
tony George does not approve of the opening montage.
In the end even Tony George realized he was wrong.

Pretty entertaining first half of the race, thanks for the upload.
Man I miss Champ Car and I miss Speedvision.
Yeah. A gold old classic PT win.
Does cars must be sooo much fun to drive
Love seeing the drivers use there stick shift.
man i miss hearing Calvin fish, Derek Daly, tk,Bob Varsha and Scott Pruett cover a race
can we just bring these cars back, please?
Where'd the graphics go though?
Nice looking cars and good sound.......
The race was around the streets, like all street tracks, and in the airport, like in Cleveland and Edmonton
THAAAAAAAAAAAAAANKSSS!!!!! I LOVE IT!!
ha, wow! Nigel Mansell!
Whoa. I just realized that the tire change in CART will be used in the NASCAR Next Generation vehicles.
green flag at 26:46
bring back Pioneer Park grandstands for 2024 !!!

Nigels eyebrows are actively trying to leave the interview.
Since then, CART/Champ Car started to die... slowly. :'(
The circuit is exactly the same as it is now.
I guess they had to take the SPEED graphics off since the channel is no longer available?
In 2003 overed the Emotion.
The best.
2:08:24 Lmao!
43:38 HAHAHAHA he said "GET A NUT ON" LOL No one said anything. sorry just the child in me

Definitely a cheap move by Haberfield but not illegal. He made 1 mive and left racing room on both sides thus the warning
Make Indycar Great Again. Bring back the 2.65L and the high revs. Get rid of some of the gimmicky aero and make the cars driver's cars again.
Not happening
high power + high rpm are not friendly of texas speedway.
@@JuanCarlos-tv2hu True. Remember when the old CART tested at Texas oval? G's were so high that drivers could not take it.
@@encinobalboa cars racing at 16000 rpm in the high banked oval...too much vibrations had to feel the drivers there.
why tell us the race winner in the comments?!?!!!?
because 16 years later, the important is not the winner, but the race
23/02/2003
This was fast but not as fast as the guys bellow me.
MMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
Can't wait to watch free practice 1 on UA-cam... oh wait NBC/Indycar are charging $50 a year to watch in the States 🤬 Adios Indycar
