Kai is the most powerful of the villains but also the most comedic which Is a good combo It also makes kung fu panda 3 more lighthearted compares to kung fu panda 2 where Shen made it a lot more serious and dark
The more you take, the less you have. --Grand-Master Oogway Edit: My theory is that Oogway meant that the more power one takes, the less control s/he has on it. This proved to be true at the ending, when Kai had all the power of Po's Chi but it went out of his control and killed Kai.
Qi(chi) is the essence of life force, shared through the universe between all things, living or not. In this case, the more he took from others, the less he was connected to the world around him. As is shown on Po, other's could share their strength and chi with him to make him stronger, and because they are connected to others whom can make them stronger, they too can make Po stronger... so on and so forth. Because Kai took the chi away from others, they could no longer share their chi that could be infinitely gathered from the universe with him. He was stuck on limited supply with no connections, losing more and more connections each time he forcibly took from others. - Thus, the more he took, the less he had.
Oogway sayed in the very beginning of the movie “When will you realize the more you take the less you have” Aka the more chi you take the less chance you are going to live. Power has consequences. According to kung fu panda 1 when po thought Oogway was a crazy old turtle shi fu said and I quote “ Oogway was the wisest of all of us”. Tsk tsk tsk if Kai only listened. Victory for po.
Kung Fu Panda 1: Body, Po learned how to perform Kung Fu and as such used those skills to overcome a master of them Kung Fu Panda 2: Mind, Po struggled against Shen because his mind was conflicted at all times, but when he found peace, when he was able to accept the past and move forward, he defeated Shen and thus his inner demons Kung Fu Panda 3: Spirit, he found his identity, who he was, and in the end it gave him the ability to harness Chi and defeat Kai

I feel bad for kai. He carried oogway for 100 miles in snow and pandas trained oogway to heal. But they ignored kai. And kai became bad and oogway has to stop him. And kai gets defeated by po again when he returned.
Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2 were masterpieces But I just can't help it but think that the 3rd movie is the bad a[ppple. In thefirst movie, Po had to become the Dragon Warrior, and in the second movie, he survived his trauma. But in the third movie, I feel like they're pulling too many themes from the second movie (maybe I'm wrong), but it make me feel like they weren't into it. Besdies, I didn't find Kai intimidating or cool like Shen or Tai Lung. He just felt like he was trying too much. Or maybe that's just me idk xD

He knew he was adopted, and he kind of wanted to know about his past, but not that much. It basically didn't come up, except for when his dad was about to tell him the secret recipe, and he was momentarily hopeful to hear about his adoption. Plus all he did to overcome his trauma in the 2nd movie was hear about his past from the goat lady. Then he was immediately ready to fight Shen. The 1st movie was great, and the rest is ok, but they're just milking the franchise due to the success of the 1st one.

Po wasn’t shown to be traumatized in the first movie because he repressed those memories due to the trauma. 2. Po didn’t care to learn about his past because he never thought about it, or he probably thought it didn’t matter. It was only when he remembered his mother from Shen’s symbol that his curiosity sparked. 3. Getting closure about your past after repressing it for so long would be enough to overcome trauma in a movie like this. The adrenaline of everything clicking at once, realising that Shen was the cause of it all, and finally achieving inner peace would be enough to motivate Po to fight him. This is what I think, anyway. Sorry for the long read.

Furthemore Wolfs were in his dream of opening scene which can be shown to be product of his repressed memory. And he even says he does not feel his son. He says sometimes I think I am not even your son so clearly he was repressing or not admitting knowing that he was adopted. Secret recipt was gret set up. And Shen is simply better villain than Tai Lung because he is Po´s villain Tai Lung is Shifu´s villain. They barely know each other. Tai Lung Who are you hits really close to home and while their battle was great it was two strangers battling each other with zero emotion and connection. And I like Shens ending better. Tai Lung death was too comedy like (hell some people even saying as criticism that tone wise its kinda jarring to go from emotional face off between Shifu and Tai Lung to that complet Looney Toones that its Po vs Tai Lung) Meanwhile Shens death is only which is serious one. Po is not trying to kill him and Shen is refusing to back down because too late. Whole movie spents running from his destiny only in last moments accepting his destiny/death. Furthemore Shen had biggest screentime out of all three villains and his scenes with Soothsayer gave him most complexity. I also think that music like Zen Ball Master or every theme related to Shen is better than first one.
