I watched this series when it was on PBS in Dallas when I was a kid. If I remember correctly it was in the late 70s or early 80s, I couldn't have been more than 12-13 years old. It was on every Sunday evening. Thanks for the memory. I hope it's all uploaded soon.

Just started the book. ( I got a used 1987 publication off Amazon) Wow, this adaptation is condensed, but so, so good.

Hayley Mills was superb in this series. Holly Aird enchanting too as young Elspeth but barely recognisable from the adult version of herself.

Years ago in our little rural cinema, when this popped up it was a sign to the projectionist that the film has either been spliced or the reel needs changing...
