    This film chronicles the ultimate demise of Hitler’s legendary west wall, dubbed by the allies as the ‘Siegfried Line’. The West Wall was a tremendous barrier of fortified defenses and minefields, protecting Germany from invasion through Europe. In 1944, this line of defense was crushed, when following the D Day landings; the allied troops fought their way relentlessly to cross the line into Germany.

    By 1944, the Westwall had been stripped of its barbed wire & mines which were sent to the Atlantik Wall...The keys to many of the bunkers couldn't be found either, and the firing ports couldn't accommodate the newer weapons...The men themselves were a mixed bunch from all branches of the Wehrmacht retreating from France and Belgium...The fact that they were able to hold the Westwall at all is impressive soldiering...

    I believe that the resistance of the Wehrmacht in the Western Front (France and Italy) was incredible, taking into account the differences in numbers between the two opposing Armies. Without the fight against Russia, it was virtually impossible, in my opinion, for the Allies to regain control of Europe...

    • @tremainetreerat5176
      @tremainetreerat5176 2 роки тому

      This is simply a fact. At any given point, 80% of Germany's manpower was deployed in the east, fighting the Red Army. The Allies struggled as they did, against 20% of the Wehrmacht. That numerical figured however, does not tell the complete story, as the cream of German manpower had mostly been bled out after 5 years of ceaseless, total warfare, when the invasion of Europe began. The best of Allied manpowerz however, was almost entirely still in tact and ready to deploy. Meaning that not only did the Allies struggle as they did against 20% of the Wehrmacht, but the 1944 version which included huge portions of soldiers too young, too old, whose loyalties we're questionable due to their nationalities, etc. Germany would have resoundingly annihilated any Allied attempt to set foot on continental Europe, had the army that invaded the USSR in 41 been waiting for them...or half of that army, even.

    Just an older but well done and narrated documentary. One of the best ones and I'm ex military grampa served with 36ID from before Texas national guard went reg army. So spent 35 years looking for shows books. And taken that long just to watch everything. The War by Ken Burns is a newer one long but very good. This series of programs has great video that not many have. The music is just the time. Think late 1930s and 1940s music. A different way and time. The jitterbug. Understanding the weapons planes tanks units commanders lots of stuff to try to learn about to understand more how it was and who was what and where. The links that were went to hide or to mislead choices of location of armies or to hide. Like a lot of people said if just some decisions or times were different things could have been very different.

      @@tedhernandez2394 Just trying to lighten things up a bit. I like world music but know little about German music. I'm sure it's great though.

      @@ibenzawla Not a prob. I listen to music from around the globe on a daily basis. I listen to the birds and animals that reside in the forests and on our oceans. However the music that I like the most is man made music. It shows how innovative we are with the tools to make that music. And to me? That's the music that can't be copied by any other living thing on this planet. That's why we as humans are so special. And I like that idea. Rock n Roll bro!
      Be well in these trying times and most of all? Be safe.

    "Believe me General I am the greatest builder of fortifications of all time. I built the concrete wall" I knew that was Trump's line but Hitler's too? Who Knew?

    Who wrote the script of this documentary?? You make it seem like the allies went through the Westwall,as a knife through butter. The victorers always get to write the history, no matter the truth!! But don't the lives count that were wasted of all those boys killed in the Hurtgen forest, or during the battle of the Bulge AFTER the battle of Achen?? The allies got their ass kicked over and over again by the Germans before each time they did retreat!! Tell the truth finally of the whole picture of that stinking war. Germany didn't want nor needed both terrible world wars in the first place. Churchil and his so called elite upperclass mates, couldn't be happier when Germany had no other choice than rearm and at the end of the day attack!

      Responsibility lies with Hitler & the Nazi's - Can I go shoot my neighbor's crazy dog & claim I had no choice cuz I'm sure it was gonna get my kids one day? Hell no - I would go to jail or my neighbor can shoot me dead for shit like that!

      no choice my ass! u respect the military & the sacrifices of the ordinary solider - commendable! But please dont spread this warped quasi-historical spin - that is a disservice to the ppl who gave up their lives to put out the fires of WW2 Nazi's

      If you can quit goosestepping for 5 mins, you should write the true history of how the world handed your country's ass on a plate. Twice.

    DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. 3min of introduction that you cannot see clearly. Jason Media is made by an amateur that has no idea about media production. The background music was just stupid.
