DRYING CHERRIES BY HELICOPTER

  • Believe it or not people actually will dry cherries by using a helicopter. What happens is when it rains the water accumulates on the top of the cherry. If it sits there when the sun comes out the water will act as a magnifying glass and split the cherry open. Once that happens nobody wants to buy it anymore and their crops get ruined. So they use helicopters to hover over the cherry trees and blow the water off to save their crops. In this video we give you a short description of how to dry cherries by helicopter.

    Excellent camera quality and views from the cockpit.
    I need to go to the groceries and get some cherries.
    (I understand the stone of the cherry is dangerously toxic to humans)

    Interesting. South Africa use to use Super Puma in the air force and later on they used the same helicopter with an upgrade engine. Think it was dubbed an Oryx. I took a flip in one whilst being in the army with the doors removed and no chairs. You just sit flat on your backside with your legs hanging out of the door. Boot laces thrashed the heck out of my legs. Great fun. R4 rounds in the ears for the noise and all that.

  • @alfamalecomua

    there is a reason to make a special cheap, slow flying helicopter for cherries drying, and field spraying. I wander why no one helicopter producer does not think about it

    Why were there so many vibrations in flight? Even your voice is shaking in the video. I once flew with a BO105 with a new but unbalanced rotorhead. On the ground it was like sitting on a hurling washing mashine, but as soon we got in the air everything was fine. So I'm wondering what causes these vibrations in flight.

    • @andrewh.8837
      @andrewh.8837 4 роки тому

      I am wondering the same thing. Hopefully they can chime in and let us know. Hard to believe a helicopter vibrates that much, especially a r66 turbine.

  • @ProfessionalPilot

    What does a client pay for this service? I'm sure there's a lot that goes into an estimate. Acreage, hazards, etc. I just want a general idea. Helicopters aren't super cheap to operate, but at the same time if it was too expensive I suppose the orchards would just hire people to walk the rows with leaf blowers....

    • @euteo
      @euteo 5 років тому

      Leaf blowers are neither efficient or fast enough to cover what a heli does. As of the costs i am curious as well. I expect somewhere about 700-1000$ per flight hour plous a few tens of $/ hr of on-call standby...

    • @keithwilson8841
      @keithwilson8841 5 років тому

      It's a different problem... with frost, they need to get the air moving so it can't freeze (laterally is OK) but for rain, they need to blow the water off... would be hard with fixed fans
