- What if the church truly became a sanctuary-a refuge for the wounded and marginalized? Join me Megan Ashley In this episode of In Totality, we sit down with Pricelis Dominguez, author of Being a Sanctuary, to discuss her journey from growing up in New York City to her time in the Dominican Republic and how studying the book of Acts has shaped her faith. Pricelis shares her insights on resilience, the beauty of fall in NYC, and her passion for creating culturally relevant Christian content.
We also confront the deep wounds caused within church communities, tackling issues like racism, sexism, mental health, and disabilities. Pricelis emphasizes the urgent need for churches to return to Bible-based, trauma-informed, and justice-oriented practices, sharing her own faith journey, including moments of doubt and renewal.
Finally, we explore the vital role of diversity in strengthening Christian communities, drawing lessons from the early church’s embrace of cultural differences. Pricelis highlights the power of diverse leadership and experiences in fostering empathy, compassion, and authenticity in embodying Jesus’ teachings. This episode offers a heartfelt discussion on transforming the church into a true place of healing and refuge

It's a maturity issue. We want to avoid the uncomfortable seasons of pruning. We skip over maturity and enter into self righteousness. We have to learn to lay down our lives for our brothers and that means we deny ourselves mature it will produce a submitting one to another. The root of it all we aren't seeking God for our own relationship which lead back to a lack of discipleship. Things I'm figuring out in myself in the season. God is on the move! Keep speaking about these issues with such grace!
Agree!!!!!! 💯. We became a selfish society. When we took our Heavenly Father out of Government (courts) and Schools- business; we lost morals, no humanity and most of all putting Our Heavenly Father first.
Please continue on this topic.
our Heavenly Father is not a a genie. He worthy to be praised, respected and Honor. The first commandment!
Megan, I hope one day you are open to sharing more about your struggles with mental health and self harm and how you’ve learned to navigate that as a believer. Self harm especially is not a topic talked about often in Christian spaces and there are those of us who have struggled or are still struggling with those thoughts and urges. It’s such an interesting and important topic. 🤍🤍
I enjoyed every minute of this conversation. This is the type of conversation I want to have and cultivate diversity. That suffer well piece, whew!!! Mahalo ladies 😮❤🎉!
Great episode 🙏🏾🥰❤
Megan is a breathe of fresh air ❤
Did she say “I’m not lgbtq affirming” and then say where does it say that in the Bible? I rewound it like 3 times to double check. I’m confused y’all. Just confused. Maybe someone can clarify..
I also heard that very clearly…
@@caitlyndelavera6832 red flag 🚩
I’m open to hearing an explanation or elaboration bc I know Megan’s theology to be biblically sound
Same. My ears just perked up and nothing was expounded on so I wasn’t clear about what she meant.
If I understood her, and I stand to be corrected, but I think what she's saying is you can't take a stand on something that you cannot actually quote from the bible or link the doctrine biblically, because then you are basing your faith on heresay!! I don't believe she was actually saying LGBTQ is accepted in Christ. 🤷♂️
Megan is slowly but SURELY turning me into a podcast girlie !❤
Wow👏👏
May I remember that before I am a daughter, sister, friend, mother and wife I am a child of God, if I fulfill my first title everything else falls into place. Thank you Lord for reminding us to fully live and indulge in your word because it's the only weapon we have🙏🙏🙏
What she mean by she not LGBT affirming ????????😮
The conversation at 52:55 , I needed to hear that , especially at 56:15 & 57:03 💕
I just now clicked on the video! But I just wanna say that your hair is GIVING MEGAN!!!
Love, love this show. One question: What's wrong with prosperity teaching? The Lord does not want us to be poor. Respectfully, I would not be able to purchase a ticket to Acts 242, if I were not able to pay my bills. The Lord is not leery of is children being financial blessed anymore than you or I would be leery of our children being financially blessed. The earth is The Lords! He does not want us to have idols - everything in moderation. Thank you for all of your content, I enjoy following you and watching our Heavenly Father radically grow you and me as I reflect on the content. Blessing.🦋
@@VictoriaBruce-Tagoe the Lord does want us to have money but the issue with prosperity gospel (like Kenneth Copeland for example) is that none of the messages are about the Lord and who He is but about what He can do for you as your heavenly Santa clause pretty much. That it’s YOUR will that will be done not HIS will.
@@tiad.9142 I appreciate your point. Nevertheless, regardless of how some Bible teachers chose to communicate the Word of God, we MUST be like the Bereans believers. We Must know ABBA's word for ourselves. Jesus always left individuals better than they were before they encountered Him. One individual can not nullify the abundance of scripture that states The Lord wants, desires, and promises to prosper us. We would not be able to carry out the Great Commission if we did not have the resources to do so. We must be careful that we go line upon line and precept upon precept, and receive the whole conceal of Christ.🌱
Thank you for responding I appreciate the exchange. Blessings.✨
@@tiad.9142you are absolutely right! The prosperity gospel is heavily focused on what you can get from God and how you can get more from Him.. outside of just having Him! Not all believers will be rich in the financial sense. The Bible is not a guide to teach believers how to be rich financially, but to be rich in spirit, rich in love, rich in the fruits of the spirit, rich in wisdom and the knowledge of the word of God. The reason sound believers speak against prosperity gospel is because it is manipulative and pushes a message that teaches people to seek the hand of God and not just God Himself. It is a perversion of the true gospel.
@@VictoriaBruce-Tagoe Maybe you are just not familiar with the term but if you ever hear someone mention “Prosperity Gospel” they are not referring to prosperity in general as it’s found in the Bible, but a very specific type of Bible teachers/teachings.
🔥🔥🔥just bangers after bangers!
Phylicia Mason Heimer was the friend mention around 43:36
"When Jesus went to the cross, he went for every human being on earth. Which means one thing, that we get to hold dignity. That we have worth because he said so."
I COULD NOT WAITTTT until the visual dropped on UA-cam because I played the audio on yesterday and babbbyyyy! As I’ve gotten older, I realize while I never experienced “church hurt” in the ways others have (thankfully 🙏🏾)… I have experienced people showing me traits that I question: “do I want to deal with?”. Today I was at a funeral for a church member and while it wasn’t church service, many present were church members. And some personalities had me uncomfortable to say the least… sitting with discomfort is hard, especially when expressing may result in manipulation or further distance. But I do believe as a world, we have to learn to sit and truly work through those interactions, even if the conclusion is to respectfully go our separate ways.
Loved this podcast 🫶🏾❤️❤️ thank you for touching on the issue regarding Haiti 🇭🇹
Just in to work this morning the song that’s says, To be a sanctuary….. was in my head. I couldn’t remember the whole song. Still can’t. But now this!! Ok God I’m listening!
@@jayyy.8this song had been playing in my head today 🙏🏾

Watching you from Kenya. Thank you for being a blessing
Megan! We need more tickets for the conference!!! PLEASE.
This is so good!! I have just been saying this!!
This hairstyle is so pretty Megan!
I love to hear Jackie & Meagan speak about God and go through verses to backup their convo- conference would have been nice to attend… but please be clear- it should NEVER cost anything, especially $200 or so, to hear the word. I know we need to still earn. But they have other avenues to do that. I just can’t get with people charging people to hear them talk about God’s word. Something about it reminds me of the market at the temple… feels wrong- like Jesus will be pulling up any second to flip some tables. 🤷🏽♀️
The fee is not going towards hearing the word of God.The fee is towards all the expenses for such events and to further having events as such. People pay fees to support concerts and etc. it’s no different, these things don’t magically happen. I would like to attend to however im not in the position to at the moment. I did start understanding though how it takes time , consideration, and still finance to advance these works.
@@xvandocorrect! the building to house the conference most likely is the biggest expense. We have to be realistic. The building has lights, you will need security/ushers so that there is order when it comes to parking, and assimilating everyone. And might I add, these are people with children, although (I get to an extent) of what the previous poster is leaning towards, this is their jobs… to expect them to pour and not see any sort of financial relief is not right.
They also have to pay the expenses of the speakers who are flying in for 2 days to attend this event.
I always enjoy your content!
🛖🤎
so good!
EXCITED for this episode.I brought her book. I can not wait to read it!!!
