“The Case Should Be REOPENED For The Sake Of Justice” Says Peter Hitchens On Lucy Letby

  • A panel of international medical experts have argued Lucy Letby is innocent, citing “significant new evidence.”
Letby, 35, is serving 15 life sentences for murdering seven babies and trying to kill seven more. But the 14-member panel says some deaths were natural, while others were due to “bad” medical care.
Her lawyers have asked the Criminal Cases Review Commission to investigate a possible miscarriage of justice.
Ian Collins speaks with Mail On Sunday columnist, Peter Hitchens and reader in criminal law, Dr Hannah Quirk.

quashed? yes, certainly. retrial? how does that work? another stitchup? I guess they could have a ceremonial review of the facts, and declare that the previous trial was a mistrial. But there was never any basis for a trial of Letby in the first place.

Why dont you invite Dewi Evans in to give his response to the press conference. Up until now he's been happy to speak to simpering BBC jounalists, rubbishing anybody who doubts his "expert" opinion. Let's see how he counters REAL experts, with thousands of peer reviewed papers published between them (Evans has none), who know what they're talking about.

I recently had a hip replacement in a private hospital as an NHS patient. Having worked on wards in many hospitals as a health care assistant when my children were babies (I was a legal secretary but the hours didn’t work with a family), I know what it entails. The night after my op my new joint leg went into spasm and the pain was intense, and having worked nights I resisted ringing the bell but in the end, I had to and after several minutes a nurse appeared. She stood in the doorway with her arms folded and shouted “what do you want”😳. I’d met her before the op and felt a distinct atmosphere (absolutely no interest). I told her when she eventually came over to my bed with the same shocking attitude that I didn’t actually want her. She was very gobby in an aggressive sort of way. I told her that she had been rude since we had first met. She had a change of heart and put her arm around me calling me “darling” (probably realising that she had overstepped the mark). When I went to physio a couple of weeks later, another patient was talking about the shocking ward care, so I told her of my experience and two more patients joined in, it appeared to be the same nurse. One of the patients said that a physio had told her that they had insufficient permanent staff and brought in bank staff from many miles away. I then realised that the staff morale was at rock bottom. Regular staff presumably were unhappy that bank staff were brought in on much more pay, with a lot of them (not all of them) were just doing the minimum. If private hospitals take NHS patients they quite clearly need to show that they have enough permanent staff to do the job. As an adult I have a voice, prem babies (any babies) have no voice ☹️

This is shameful. The jury only convicted after being given inadequate evidence: the expert opinions on the other side were never presented, and those are obviously more plausible, logical, and conclusive. There is no point in throwing the jury under the bus here -- this was an unambiguous failure of law enforcement and the judicial system.

It is so difficult to get an appeal, this is very much a great way to lean on the justice system and pass the ball to them with the world aware and watching.

It's approximately 1 minute 4 seconds in duration. Ask the Cheshire Police about that skip. Also, ask for the entire video of the interview and intorrogation for July 3, 2018. Too many seem to be emotionally invested in this which is really quite worrying. Everyone should champion ‘innocent until proven guilty’ ‘fair trial’ and the appeals process because you never know if you or someone you know might find themselves in court being falsely accused. If she’s guilty the trial should be able to prove it.

Maybe tell the also crucial discovery that Dr Evan’s initially diagnosed ten other babies who had died as suspicious such as air forced into veins; tubes moved deliberately; one he reported as someone placing a hand over the babies mouth and suffocating the baby. Funny enough, for these ten babies, Lucy was not on duty. How strange that this was never disclosed to the jury. It would have sown that 10 out of 17 deaths occurred when Lucy was off duty. Why made the decision to only shown the statistics of babies deaths when Lucy was in duty?

She has been let down by the justice system, and by the hospital where she worked. If they can rush so called far right thugs guilty of hurty words on social media, through the system in a couple of weeks, then surely a case where someone has quite possibly been convicted of the most heinous crime of all and branded a mass child killer, is most likely innocent after all, they really need to get their fingers out and their wallets too. Dr Hannah Quirk to my ears seems to be saying '......... The best way to deal with a moral dilemma is to pretend it isn't there and maintain the status quo for decades if need be, and if you disagree with me your daft .........' I can't agree with her. If a person doesn't want to hear the truth, then they are still entitled to hear the truth whether they like it or not, if it avoids great harm to an innocent third party. I not surprised her students start to fall asleep after listening to her for 'arf an 'our.
