I'm an Englishman - but this performance- and all that it represented to everyone in that room - brought tears to my eyes - Well done Eddi - love your work and your passion
Eddie just wanted you to know that I chose this song for my husbands funeral in Spain on the 14th of June 2012 - thank you for making it special you are so beautiful xxx Sandra
Hi John, Had the total pleasure of seeing yourself, Eddie and the band in Eden Court last year. You should have said that the song was added to the album to show that... "great music was still being written and produced in Ayrshire today, all those years after Burns" I have even heard this MAGICAL CLASSIC SONG discribed by a presenter on BBC SCOTLAND as a Burns song. Lazy sods...lol...a great song John, would love to hear more. Andrew Inverness.
Brilliant song. I missed it first time round. Both Eddi and The Trashcan Sinatras versions should be released to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Scottish Parliament
lucky you . i passed her in the street in b/hill irvine years ago and never knew who she was at the time. a chance missed to chat to her. lovely woman and singer. now im down south will i get the chance again. hope you enjoyed the show at the magnum where i used to go.
i have never heard this song or of this version before i came to know of the Trashcan Sinatras, this song is beautiful no matter who sings it,i'm amazed how much Eddi&Frank look a like,(iknow their siblings).ox
Yes this is Beautiful -Please do not down-grade any other artist - they also thought it were beautiful- at the time of recording - never trash-can!!!! Think!
Part 1 of 2 Hi Janet,This song was introduced at the Parliament ceremony as being written by Ayrshire songwriter, John Douglas.. On Eddi's album it is made perfectly clear that it is written by John Douglas. Two things Eddi is never guilty of are 'sneaking' and 'poor taste'. What a waste to destroy such a beautiful CD. Robert will be spinning in his grave.
A few years ago, I heard Eddi Reader's album based on Robbie Burns poems and I thought it was terrible. Her voice is better suited to singing stuff like her song "Perfect" (fairground attraction) but song-writing wise: this song is great, best sung by her brother Frank as lead singer of the Trashcan Sinatras and it is written by Frank's co-writer John Douglas, whom Eddi married. Trashcans are way better wordsmiths than Robbie Burns, in my honest opinion, so maybe Eddi should do an album of their songs or join her husband and brother's band. lol. Just wondering out loud. No criticism of anyone meant. A lot of Scots airs are what Irish airs are supposed to be, to my ears, because song-writing melodies in Ireland, since the days of nationalist-rebel ballads in the 19th century, has usually been done to phoney "drawing room piano-vocal" airs (designed for consumption by fans of Thomas Moore in London) that aren't actually Irish in character in melody, whatever about the lyrics. Airs are like geography and accents...unmistakable. Scottish music with drones...that's the real McCoy, in an Irish context, for melodies. Yikes, I've ended up doing a rant. No matter. Respect to Eddi Reader. But a tip: stop the trans-Atlantic singing. Listen to ya brother's Glaswegian sense.
i agree stunning in any enviroment the lass rocks if u can enjoy her voice from where ether ure from who gives a shit......im scottish tho hahahahaha fucking the best music songs and natural music just come from the bonnie land
Im my humble opinion your remarks are in poor taste and would you consider yourself sneaky with your blatant self serving plug for your'screenplay'? I can only hope that you were having a bad day and your post is something that now raises a twinge of regret. I hope your mood has lifted and the wonderful songstress will one day find your favour. John Douglas

zkizopaya speaks the truth, although it sounds so much like a Burns composition - i guess that's why they snuck it on the CD :)
a modern classic
