Good performance for Katisha, although I still prefer the cast in the dvd recording (particularly for Nanki-Poo). The earlier version of the score was much catchier and funnier I also believe. Much gratitude for the work you do though and uploading things for us to see for free.
che bella versione, che bella canzone, non solo per i costumi e la scenografia ma anche perchè una delle poche arie belle per voci femminili molto gravi❤❤❤
she was the original Revival Irene in Australia in the 70's n was taken to London for the West End Revival Original Cast when she was younger (of course)
Katisha is the soul of the Mikado. everyone else is pretty much a jerk, seinfieldian. There are more operatic versions but solidly acted, beautiflully sung this is a favorite It's SG, what do you say? I miss Mellisa Langdon. Lotsa fun and a great version
Good, but I remember Bev Shean's spine-chilling debut as Katisha, in 1995. Try around the 1:03:00 mark on this: ua-cam.com/video/XgX_Jvn0KeQ/v-deo.html
Some aren't referring to the traditional version, but rather Essgee's previous version (which definitely wasn't traditional). I'm in that boat. I prefer their version to the original, but Essgee's older version is funnier, catchier, and has more personality in my opinion.
...why does Nanki-Poo get the whole crowd to sing loudly whenever Katisha is about to say "Mikado"? The whole point is to stop Katisha from revealing that Nanki-Poo is the Mikado's son. The crowd must know when they're supposed to sing, so they can't possibly be hiding the truth about Nanki-Poo from *themselves*. Yum-Yum knows already. Maybe the idea is to stop Ko-Ko from finding out...but either he or Pooh-Bah should be smart enough to figure out the meaning of "he is the son of your ...
No sweetie...no need to applaud such mediocrity, they just might start another production. The director, assuming there was one has nary a clue about G&S. Or direction, or movement, or staging...... I use this clip as a "what not to do" for my college students abroad. It is perfect for that. You, yourself may want to attend some true theatre.
Baldwin Manning Stallone yes, but with Simon Gallagher in the lead with Helen Donaldson, It was absolutely fantastic, I watch it a lot, as I have it on DVD.
My Mother named me after Katisha 😍😍😍
Julie Anthony is in her element at Katisha! stunning!

I was in this show. They did awesome in comparison to us. I did Katisha, acutally, and she totally buried me lol

Oh my god, it's Maleficent!!!
I think that they did a better job of picking the characters in this version.

how could Opera Australia overlook Julie Anthony for their production around the same time
Great performance as Katisha, I'll have to agree with the others that I'm not a fan of the redone For he's gonna marry Yum-Yum.
Julie is very good as Katisha but Felicity Palmer in the E.N.O. (Jonathan Miller) version is superb
To me... The Katisha on the DVD has a stronger voice.
The Entrance of the Evil Katisha gives you shivers down your spine.
Why does everyone hate the newer feel of it. I actually prefer it. Traditional stuff sounds so boring. They're just trying to make it entertaining.

Not even Essgee fucks with Katisha.

Whether travesty or triumph you have to give this version its creative due.

Katisha excels. The rest are just hooligans.
I think this is The Hot Mikado which came out many years ago. Am I correct?
Baldwin Manning Stallone yes, but with Simon Gallagher in the lead with Helen Donaldson, It was absolutely fantastic, I watch it a lot, as I have it on DVD.
nope - this is essgee's mikado, but it was probably an influence in essgee's mikado
Julie Anthony as Katisha is fantastic, but I don't like nanki POO
Katisha came out and blew my mind... then that God awful doo wop nonsense started and ruined the whole video for me.
This woman actually does a fine job with Katisha
a shame she has to have all that disco nonsense in the background.
Why the clothes are so horrible and the orchestra are soooo limited?? >.< she's a wonderful katisha, but my god, all people clothes are just... eeewww
Some of this so called update is trash - just awful.
