I personally think that this game was criminally underrated. It was no ProStreet, but it was still great.
The map was way too small, but the gameplay is still one of the Best in the NFS series. It felt like HP but on steroids, i have so much memories with my friends online

just like in hot pursuit, it might not have cities, but cruising in long roads feels very nice
the only thing it lacks is manual transmission

Is there is something I really miss from this game is the atmosphere. The game feels really dark, like you're in a constant war zone. And the way of how aggressive the cops are makes it more fitting. It could help with a different soundtrack, but the atmosphere still great.
Is a real shame that no one appreciate this. People only focus on a street racing story with annoying characters while companies only focus on festival racing with boring and generic character. We don't need that. We need THIS.
Especially if you are in MAX Heat level.
EA is just trying to make money on kids by Fortnite-NFS sadly...

This game proves that it’s all about style and atmosphere graphical quality isn’t all that’s needed for improvement
All cars in NFS RIVALS sounded way better than in Unbound too.

Graphical quality not needed for improvement? This was easily the best looking game of 2013.
The graphics were that good that they aged well. All we needed was that foul filter gone.

In general tho, the reason why Rivals is hated during it's release is because of the bugs and glitches. NFS fans didn't like it much, but due to the franchise falling apart because of Unbound, many people went back into this game and call it an underrated gem after saying that they hated it from the start, which makes no fucking sense at all. Fans say "NFS ended after Carbon", that's literally fucking stupid.
The fans as well are also delusional, because they think Rivals is the worst game ever despite the game had awards as Best Racing Game in BAFTA Awards, Golden Trailer Awards, Satellite Awards, NAVGTR Awards and Game Critics Awards, which the game had positive reviews and was well praised by the critics. They're just stuck in Black Box era saying MW 2005 is better than any NFS game, don't get even me started on this shit.
Again, the cops in this game even surpassed MW 2005's because Rivals' cops would just beat the shit out of you using their deadly weapons with excessive force, until you are dead. It would be better if they added Busted Scenes here in Rivals where Zephyr gets brutally punched and wreck his car, just like in Undercover's. I like what they we're going for despite the cops are annoying af, purely from the fact that the game's story explains it, why Zephyr already is the Most Wanted street racer in Redview County.
This what I have been saying for years bro, Im so glad there's someone who sees the flaws in this community
The downfall of NFS actually started with Payback I believe, Unbound is just another nail in the coffin

I found this game in ps4 1 month ago.. im amazed and i believe this is the greatest overall NFS game!!
In my opinion, the NFS game with the best graphics is NFS 2015, followed by Rivals.

If only EA took time to fix the rubber banding AI and made it NOT an always online game, plus some other fixes, NFS 2015 would've been better than it was at release
These graphics and car sounds are still amazing in 2024, this game will definitely fit in, if it was released in the newer generations of consoles
It's like "Battlefield 4 but you are a racer". That's the power of Frostbite engine.
Edited: The moment I realized NFS Rivals and BF4 released in the same year. I've been playing them for 5 years and still got the best experience. Old games are gold.

This has been my very first PS4 game and it still is my favorite NFS game ever! Memories, emotions, hours, feelings, this game can bring them all up together in few seconds!
I also love to drive the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta whilst the music "Cherry Bomb" from Coco Hayashi plays out in NFS RIVALS. 😎
This was my favorite game on PS3. Sadly, I don't own a PS4, so I've got no idea how it is. Still remember the thousands of hours I had on this game.

I admit NFS Rivals wasn't perfect of a game. But The cutscenes, Soundtracks, Environments, Graphics, Cars, Gameplay and the Customization were amazing. Infact, When I play this game I like to played it while playing Amaranthe in the background
Playing as Driver in Rivals is way more satisfying than playing as a Cop.
It was amazing even in old-gen consoles, and by the way those versions were an underrated technical achievement
PS3 NFS RIVALS > PS5 NFS UNBOUND.

Nfs games in general from 2010-2013 are aging pretty well. Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted 2012 looked pretty detailed for their time, and had some nice visual effects, especially rain ones. But The Run and Rivals are on another league if we talk about that aspect. Also, the vibe for each of those games is immaculately crafted and accurate to their maps. Seacrest County is a beautiful paradise that allows racers to take their fantasies to their extreme, Fairhaven is a depressing, sci-fi like kind of city that contains some of the most dystopian vibes to a NFS game. The Run contains only a portion of the USA, but it also contains some of the best, most jaw-dropping and detailed vistas of any NFS game, and Redview is basically Seacrest County 2.0, only darker, gloomier and more detailed.

I played the game when it came out before they put the cap at HL 10. I got to heat level 15 once 😂 and at that point, yeah it was unplayable

The viper TA is a car I wish a lot more games had. My fav for sure. Also that V12 from the F12 and the McLaren V8 sound is just so perfect

NFS RIVALS even with overly brutal cops and cannot pause the game like in NFS 2015 and THE CREW I, its still an amazing game! Even Ren Hazuki (a diehard gamer) also like this game surprisingly.
I’ve noticed this game really benefits from higher resolution, it’s a huge difference between 1080 and 1440 more so than other games. And it’s gorgeous at 4K

Its underated today, a more hardcore HP2010 that still looks great. But when released it got bashed for being too online focused ( no story), having a 30 FPS cap and not having basic stuff like a pause button :) But as shown, the graphics are up there and mods can fix alot :)
This NFS part made my childhood
one of my most favourites NFS games
went back to get the plat trophy last yr, i fell in love again. cant beat a bit over overly aggressive cops and the drift/ slide aspect. my favourite nfs game for a reason other than music

this game is just so brutal. and i love it. even if you stayed at a gas station on heat level 10 , it will always find a way to *kill* you. this game is such a thrilling game , especially you cant pause at all when you are outside the garage. the Risk And Reward gameplay is so unbelievably hard. even if you had 2 million SP POINTS , if you get busted , or wrecked , you lose ALL OF THAT , unlike need for speed heat where if you get busted at night it will just divide every rep you gain into 1x , depends on how much heat level it has. i'd always love this game since its release , despite the bugs and everything , making it much , MUCH more chaotic.
overall this game is a 9/10 for me . let it cook. 🔥🔥🔥

What I liked the most is that doesn't rely on the drifting mechanic in every corner like may other NFS games of this era.
Rivals is one of the best looking games I seen, the scenery is gorgeous. This game looks amazing even on ps3
No tacky modifications, no performance upgrades, what you see is what you'll use for the entirety of your gaming hours. Hope there's another NFS game like this

You know why those two are memorable NFS with better graphics, black box era was good tho, and besides those engines were used for Battlefield games.
This game only needs better anti-aliasing and resolution and it will look like an NFS from 2020 onward

It looks like nfs most wanted but on high graphics
despite its bugs & glitches, i still do think it's one of the best in the series. gameplay, atmosphere, soundtrack, story, graphics. and the crashes, my they are brutal af. i love everything abt it, especially the final mission as a racer where i have to keep my eyes on the road for 8-10 minutes. i'd love to see a sequel to rivals because zephyr & fate are such good characters imo. multiplayer would have a totally different vibe when the cops are actual players with skills & also pursuit techs

What blows me away is even though this game is now over 10 years old, it looks even more beautiful than any of the newer ones. Better than 2015, better than Payback, better than Heat, better than Unbound.

While the game only had some semblence of a story, it really had everything an NFS game needed except cusotmization: brutal cops, normal to exotic cars and stellar drive. It sucked largely because of the 30 fps lock. Aside from that, truly an amazing game.

Honestly Nfs Rivals is still my Favorite Modern NFS game, cops were blood thirsty and they always made me shit my pants when I’m a Max heat with critical damage 😂. And I think to this day as well it still has the biggest map.

I liked the different environments depicted in Rivals and the dust/dirt accumulation and damage on the vehicles. What I didn't like was being harassed by the cops even while just being on the side of the road or parked at a gas station and you were supposedly "ignoring lights". 😆 Also, this place was the windiest in any racing game ever. There was always debris blowing around. What was that?

Wasn’t perfect but the amount of cars in the game was solid, The different types of cars was solid. Progression was solid. The controls were a bit funky from car to car, but still manageable. And the optional DLC was really good.
i miss the days when NFS were making realistic(cinematic) looking games like rivals and most wanted but added some extra features to make street racing fun. I tried last NFS and directly returned after 15 minutes, it was so arcadeish and unrealistic looking(like forza horizon and beamng drive type of looking cars).
The 1st Ghost Games game promised a lot but it remained just that, a very ambitious promise (better not even take into account NFS 2015). This game is not underrated for me.

The only thing is that the game is hardlocked at 30 fps even on PC. When I was on my PS3 it was fine. But after all these years of being used to 60+ fps, playing at 30 fps just feels awful.
