Ah - the nostalgia! I remember when a coworker traded her Dark Cherry Metallic 1986 Sedan de Ville for a new white 1991 Seville with red interior. That car was easily twice as expensive as anything I could afford at the time. She let me drive it one day to go run an errand for her and I still remember the euphoria of being a teenager driving a fancy, new Cadillac. I was enamored with so many things about that car, but the standout feature for me was the mechanical door chime. I was the weird teenager who dreamed of owning an 80s-90s Seville, Electra Park Avenue, Toronado, or Riviera. By the time I could afford one, they were all gone. GM no longer has anything that interests me, but I'll always be fond of those models.
I love stories like these. Reminds me of my younger days when I worked at a Beach Club as a teenager. These super rich members would get so drunk during the summer days they would ask us to go move their cars for them and it was so exciting getting behind the wheel of their amazing Cadillac's and fancy luxury cars!

I owned one of these at one point. It was of course at least 15 years old when I got it but it was in immaculate condition. It drove like a dream. It SCREAMED down the road. It was one of the first Ameircan cars with a fully digital dashboard. The deathblow came when the onboard computer had some glitch and the dashboard would just shut off -- no gauges - no fuel monitor - no speedometer- nothing. The car still ran, but you had no feedback from it. it was unsafe when it randomly happened, and it was an expensive fix - so it got traded in. If that never happened I would have driven it into the ground....who knows? I might still be driving it today. Loved that car !
I wanted one of these more than anything when I was in my early 20s. I think its a nice looking car, but like you said, Cadillac overdid it with the downsizing.
My best friend had one of these with 22k miles from 2006-2010, it was a one owner, old lady car that who kept like new. She had a stack of warranty and non warranty receipts from Lou Elhers Cadillac on Wilshire Blvd., always garaged and loved to dead. Everyone knows, a car from Beverly Hills, are the cars to own. Well, that car was in the shop every week,(at Lou Elhers) until he had had enough. This car was the biggest POS ever made. All of the interior plastic warped, the leather shredded, the headliner was bad, the struts were bad, the engine had a knock, the transmission had to be rebuilt. He spent more money repairing the car than doubled its value. Motor mounts broke on a regular basis, AC kept going out. All of this work was done at the Cadillac dealership and still the car just kept falling apart. I’ve never seen a 15 year old car self destruct, until this POS. All I can say is RUN don’t walk. Cadillac wasn’t Cadillac after 1984, only the Fleetwood ‘s and “B”body brougham’s were true Cadillacs. Anyone that loved these never knew what a real Cadillac was.
I remember my biggest gripe with seville's from the very beginning is they intentionally had wide horizontal tail lights when that was the opposite of the tall vertical tail lights that every other Cadillac had, I felt like it distanced it from the brand and made it look too much like a Buick or any number of other cars that had thin horizontal tail lamps. It made it look generic in other words, even when other Cadillacs were reintroducing and emphasizing their vertical thin style tail lamps, the Seville just looked like any number of very cheap cars. That's why you have to honor and respect your styling cues, yes you can update them but when you completely abandon them you abandon a car's identity and pedigree at the same time.
Absolutely agree, that's why I kinda hated the STS when it debuted as opposed to the El Dorado of the same mid-90s era. It wasn't until the DeVille of the early 2000s that they reigned in all the goofy looking shit and looked like Cadillacs again, more or less

I absolutely loved this body style Seville. The one to have was the 1991 with the STS package with the alloys and dual exhausts and the only year of this body style to have the 4.9 V8.
yes, gorgeous I reckon, and always had a soft spot for the vertical or back-cut (or whatever you call them) rear windows, on these or other brands. also love the 2nd gen Sevilles that Bill likened to garbage truck styling....
91 had the very good 4.9 powerful engine and tweaked transmission and it rode nice and you could feel lots more power. It was good but it could have been designed a little better. Then that Northstar which was great on power but bad on oil and the gasket issues. All these Caddy’s should have been RWD. But I am a 70s guy regarding cars and Cadillacs as I believe that’s when they peaked in their beauty and the downsizing then was just about right and you could still get a very good car. Except for some of the emissions but that was the communist governments it pushed all that crap.
My buddy had one of these in navy blue the two door. It was an electrical nightmare but when it did work it felt like you were riding on a cloud and it’s a beautiful car

Great video Bill! First time commenting on your vids but I’ve been watching them for a while now. My ex had this car, the STS version, and it was as peppy as anything else on the street, really. It’s a caddy so by definition it’s not a street racer, but it’s an exceptionally comfortable car to travel across the country in. I went from Chicago to LA and didn’t get any aches or pains even after driving 12 hours a day. This one is in amazing shape for a 32-33 year old car. It reminds me of my old ‘89 Toronado Troféo, they both were the same general body series, although mine only had a 3.8L 6 cyl in it. Thanks for the trip down memory lane this afternoon. Stay cool in that Florida steam bath you’ve got going on right now.
I had a white 1992 DeVille. Almost identical car. Mine was a little bigger, I have a column shifter rather than a center console shifter. My cloth ceiling and rear window side pillars where the opera lights were was not falling down/coming apart. My car was nearly mint. 120,000 miles on it and I got it for $1,000. No rust. Original everything. It drove like brand new. I still have pictures of it. 4.9L V8 FWD. Super fast. So cozy. The same digital gauges, features and dash essentially. Fuel economy readouts, (how many miles till empty), digital climate control and tons more options.
I love these cars. I worked at a gas station in high school and loved driving different cars around to pickup and drop off customers. These had a ton of power. Great video
Right On!! about the "badge engineering" at the time. How Bill describes people being "pissed off" by the styling of these cars at the time is not an exaggeration. I am very glad he said it. I remember people were very disappointed when these cars came out after the the earlier Sevilles. We just knew it was a lesser car. It was really a "forgotten" car when it was new. It was at the top of practically nobodies list of cars to aspire to. However I respected the people that bought them new - they were usually very secure financially and stable types. Country club retirees would drive these and turn them in after about 2 years. I did not respect these cars though. The buyers would be the type where they would not let their kids borrow these cars - treating them as so precious. A variety of fogies would buy them - these cars helped propel them around so they could control their family with their money. Seriously, I think many bought them mainly for patriotic reasons and that they did not care about cars that much. Thanks for telling us how it was.
All very true! I remember people saying that the only reason they bought a Cadillac was to support American Auto companies and workers even though they would have preferred to BMW and they just couldn't bear to buy an overpriced Japanese car either. It used to be patriotic to support American products. Even if they were clearly inferior.
@@Jack_Stafford grandfather retired and had old cutlasses and went up to EL Dorado , a dream in retirement but it was an early 83 model with flames coming out of the dash, and failed tail lights that nearly cause a broadside collision with van and overheating on the grapevine highway up to AZ. Like many he added a fake cabriolet roadster roof to it but once it hit 7 yrs 70 k miles and warranty expired he immediately went car shopping. This car had a much more peppier engine that could go up hills and didn't have to downshift but he stopped across the street and saw the then Olds Calais International Series and thought the body of the cars looked and could buy it for half the price but the gm service dept. advised him not buy a quad 4 without a warranty, a gauge package with temp gauge and it was great until warranty ran out. He rented a white Grand Am on vacation and then saw this car and went back to the dealer for new climate control module and asked for Buick Park Ave Ultra and Pontiac SSEI literature and also looked at the Infinity I35 but Infin rode rougher. When the 92 STS made car of the year , he gave Cadillac another chance and it had far more improved build quality and real wood trim, the 4.9 went 185k miles and still ran strong. I remember that they offered him this car in the gold-white-beige with a thirty percent discount with warranty in november 1991and he liked the increased power and ride but politely declined. They did run well for a longtime, what it lacked in execution, it excelled in mechanical improvements. A retired attorney bought his traded Eldo as a second car and was frequently in the shop with it, He said it was the only car that he could drive while having back disk surgery with the therapy and get in/ out without pain, his wife liked the 91 but she also was sold on a base 92 Seville after one drive, they also looked at the Buick Ultra because the service dept. endorsed it but they gave the 92 seville 4.9 the green light so another 92 seville brought a Cadillac buyer back. This car was a step in the right direction but just a half step-later they got it right.

Bill, the Caddy dash reminds me of 80's Pioneer home stereos and cassette decks at the time with "Fluroscan" displays. That was an era, when Nakimichi, Pioneer, Technics, and Hitachi were all duking it out.....LOL. Your youthful memories at the "Buick store" had me rolling my eyes. I bet you were lead footing many a Grandpa's car back then around the dealership lot.
I own a very nice 93 Buick Park Avenue...looks immaculate, etc. But in the six years I have been driving around in it, not one compliment!...I do not see much hope of my car being a "collectible", based on it's not being noticed by anyone!

I actually own this car and collect these. I have a white 89 Seville with blue leather and a blue coach top. Car has 12k original miles. I also have a 10k red 89 Eldorado with a white leather interior and white coach top. These cars are really great and the 4.5 and 4.9 motors are great. You are correct in saying these cars have some real power. Always enjoy your videos and commentary and it’s nice to see a video on this car which is about as rare as finding a low mileage example of one.

Remember when Lincoln made fun of this model of Cadillac, in that commercial where valet drivers, and owners confused on who’s car was who’s. Arguing over them being a Cadillac, Buick, or Oldsmobile, because they all looked the same. Then a valet rolled out in a Lincoln Town Car hahahaha!
Somehow I fell into a deal for an Eldorado same generation and I fell in love...it was smooth of course but also surprisingly a blast to drive i foolishly sold it cause I had one car too many to park (6 yrs ago) and I _INSTANTLY_ missed it!!

I remember my aunt dating a guy with an early 1980s EL Dorado Biarritz = beautiful car, white tufted leather. who went to his trusted Cadillac dealer for his routine 3 year upgrade in mid-late 1980s and they presented him the new generation two door version of this car. He just turned around and walked out!! haha
I remember, we had one like this one with the 4.9 V8 on the used car lot, where I worked in 2003. It had some issue, which was common on that V8, where the valves made a racket. It was surprisingly responsive & handled better than expected. Other than the engine, it was in good shape with a nice inyerior. Sold it to a guy who knew how to fix or otherwise overcome the valve disorder (I can't remember what it was?) for $1200.
It looks good in its own way. Lincoln Mark VII LSC was my dream at the time. I agree with my young self. Mark VII LSC or no luxury car from this time period.
I remember seeing an LSC convertible in a Lincoln showroom when we picked up our new Cougar in 85. Not a factory option, I think the dealership owner had it done. It was beautiful.

I actually currently own a Sapphire blue one, with 179,000 miles. It still runs like a Bat out of Hell when you floor it. The front end rattles a bit, when you go over rail road track but what can you expect with that many miles. Still in excellent condition. I'm only second owner, My dad bought in new in 1990'. I then acquired it in 2002, after he pass.

My Mother had a 91 in black with black leather. She came out of an 87 triple black Town Car at the time and I think she liked the smaller size. I remember liking it too. It was a little small for a Caddy, but it was comfortable and actually drove pretty well. And compared to the Town Car, the Seville was down right sporty.
I had one of these , silver on gray. I remember the little red lights in the back on the headliner or just about on there anyway. If they were to tell you whether your brake lights were working or if you needed to replace the bulb. Love your videos I watch them all.
I am from Australia and in April 1991 I rented a Cadillac Seville from Alamo in Miami for 3 weeks and really enjoyed driving it around south Florida. It was so different from the cars we had at the time in Australia. I remember doing 100 mph on something called Aligator Alley I think it was but only for a short amount of time. I travelled to the USA a lot from 1978 to 2010 and drove a lot of rental cars including the Ford Pinto, Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Grand Prix, Ford Thunderbird and to Lincoln Town Car. In those days there was a huge choice of American cars that you could rent that in Australia we just didn't have. Great video.
You nailed it. This caddy and others from the period were designed for the Greatest generation who were in their 60s back in 1990. I was 24 back then and it was the Acura Legend that filled my eyes. Todays Caddies are are altogether different cars that of 33 years ago.

The 92 on Seville were MUCH more attractive. My late mothers last car was a polo green 92 Seville SLS with the bulletproof 4.9L V8, not the terrible early DeathStar V8. A beautiful car, ran perfectly for 6 years before Mom died. She loved it.
This was a beautiful car. This car was much less expensive than anything similar to it. I love the formal roof line. I love the size of the car. I was never a Fleetwood guy, the DeVille was pretty. But this cars was my pick and I would have purchased it

Wow. The speedometer reads over 85! The Continental stops counting at 85 haha. The STS was definitely a neat car in its era. Cool ride. Nice to see such a well preserved Seville. My late Grandmother had one for awhile, and a Cimarron. New car 2-3 year leases.
I've got a similar one. It's red inside, otherwise exactly as this one. Same trim, colour and year. Been in the family since almost new. What bothers me about all these stories about this model Seville is that all the stories concentrate on how GM was a bit lost with this car and it did not sell thar well. But if you forget about the Cadillac brand and the competitors, what you are left with is a pretty decent and modern car. This day, my car never left me on the road, fuel economy is decent, it mostly holds against years pretty well, fits very well on Europen roads, engine and transmission have never been opened, it is a nice car to drive, excellent in the winter, does not rust, and has a lot of modern technology very few 1990 cars had. My car has 265tkm, but he engine and transmission could probably take way more. Not many cars from 1990 were this good really.

Buick GNs used a completely different shifter and knob than this Seville used. Consider doing better research before commenting next time ice cream moron.

Well this was their attempt at a luxury economy car. Toyota and Honda were eating General Motors alive at the time. Remember, 4 years prior to this model, Honda and Toyota released their luxury flagship brands Acura and Lexus....Those brands and cars took off like wildfire.

These are actually pretty good looking cars compared to the other downsized 1980's and early 90's Cadillacs. I got to drive one of these back in the day and I remember that relative to other similar cars of the day, it had a decent amount of get up and go - it was an upgrade over these malaise-era behemoths with V8 engines putting out Miata-like horespower, that's for sure.
GM had a lot of cars that looked like they were poorly designed and tended to look like they were about to fall apart. The Seville became one of those cars, as well as the more current CTS, which I've seen a lot of them where the rear lower valance is loose. The new Camaros can barely take a hit in the front .

GM has diminished Cadillac virtually since 1985 when the “little” Devilles and Fleetwood came out. It worsened when this car and the new Eldorado came out in 1986. I wish GM would’ve learned from the Cimarron, but the GM CEO at the time, Roger Smith, just thought everyone wanted front drive cars. He got most everything wrong when he was CEO of GM from 1981 to 1990.
I had a 91 STS. One of the BEST riding, handling and performing vehicles I've owned. The 4.9 was a great engine. Sorry I sold it. I own and will NEVER sell an 08 STS V.
I had an '89 Legend coupe with a manual and holy smokes does this thing look ancient in comparison. The STS had a more modern look but the rear was half-baked and overall this reminds me of my uncle's Celebrity more than anything.

I have a great 88 Eldorado, a survivor. I did all the ecm upgrades,rebuilt the chassie, replaced everything, even though it did run after being parked for 22 years in a garage. I'm the 3rd owner, Rosanne Cash engine the first, bought buy her dad....black with burgundy Headliner. The 4500 runs flawlessly now, squeaky clean Engine, inside, no rust anywhere. She now has 124000 on the clock, 12k by me. Loaded base couple, no vinyl top, astroroof...all the options ,except the phone. She's on the base 14" rims, With stock 75s on her. I love this car. Uses no oil, but likes gas around town. The Bose sound system, rebuilt, and refurbished cassette deck. I drive it on weekends when it's not raining. I don't drive it in bad weather, although I have When caught in it. It's a great Unappreciated car. 88..was a big revamp of the 86 and 87 with their awful 4100s. Your 4.9 was great with PFI. Mine is the 4500 with throttle body Injection. 242 ft.lbs., at 155 H.p. 272.5 cu. In. all aluminum. This premired in 88 on the Seville as well
You mentioned the car wash, I worked with a guy who got pinned against a wall at a carwash by an Imperial. This was in the 1960s. He remembered the big eagle hood ornament.

Are you sure it wasn’t an ‘88, that’s when the body style changed to the one that continued until the late 90’s. The ‘87 still had the same dash configuration that began in 1974. It’s possible that it was a one-off though

I still love the shape. The blue with the blue interior was my favorite. I had to the poor man's Delta 88 in those colors in an 88. I could happily hop back in that car and drive it for years again. I'm sitting burning through motorweeks retro library right now and I'm cracking up cuz I keep waiting for John to say something about Canadians when he goes to the backseats of the cars... I owned one of these at one point. It was of course at least 15 years old when I got it but it was in immaculate condition. It drove like a dream. It SCREAMED down the road. It was one of the first Ameircan cars with a fully digital dashboard. The deathblow came when the onboard computer had some glitch and the dashboard would just shut off -- no gauges - no fuel monitor - no speedometer- nothing. The car still ran, but you had no feedback from it. it was unsafe when it randomly happened, and it was an expensive fix - so it got traded in. If that never happened I would have driven it into the ground....who knows? I might still be driving it today. Loved that car !

I wanted one of these more than anything when I was in my early 20s. I think its a nice looking car, but like you said, Cadillac overdid it with the downsizing.
My best friend had one of these with 22k miles from 2006-2010, it was a one owner, old lady car that who kept like new. She had a stack of warranty and non warranty receipts from Lou Elhers Cadillac on Wilshire Blvd., always garaged and loved to dead. Everyone knows, a car from Beverly Hills, are the cars to own. Well, that car was in the shop every week,(at Lou Elhers) until he had had enough. This car was the biggest POS ever made. All of the interior plastic warped, the leather shredded, the headliner was bad, the struts were bad, the engine had a knock, the transmission had to be rebuilt. He spent more money repairing the car than doubled its value. Motor mounts broke on a regular basis, AC kept going out. All of this work was done at the Cadillac dealership and still the car just kept falling apart. I’ve never seen a 15 year old car self destruct, until this POS. All I can say is RUN don’t walk. Cadillac wasn’t Cadillac after 1984, only the Fleetwood ‘s and “B”body brougham’s were true Cadillacs. Anyone that loved these never knew what a real Cadillac was.
I remember my biggest gripe with seville's from the very beginning is they intentionally had wide horizontal tail lights when that was the opposite of the tall vertical tail lights that every other Cadillac had, I felt like it distanced it from the brand and made it look too much like a Buick or any number of other cars that had thin horizontal tail lamps. It made it look generic in other words, even when other Cadillacs were reintroducing and emphasizing their vertical thin style tail lamps, the Seville just looked like any number of very cheap cars.
That's why you have to honor and respect your styling cues, yes you can update them but when you completely abandon them you abandon a car's identity and pedigree at the same time.
Absolutely agree, that's why I kinda hated the STS when it debuted as opposed to the El Dorado of the same mid-90s era. It wasn't until the DeVille of the early 2000s that they reigned in all the goofy looking shit and looked like Cadillacs again, more or less

I absolutely loved this body style Seville. The one to have was the 1991 with the STS package with the alloys and dual exhausts and the only year of this body style to have the 4.9 V8.

that 4.9L pre-Northstar era V8 was a bad motherfucker for a FWD tiny little car. Talk about torque steer!!
91 had the very good 4.9 powerful engine and tweaked transmission and it rode nice and you could feel lots more power. It was good but it could have been designed a little better. Then that Northstar which was great on power but bad on oil and the gasket issues. All these Caddy’s should have been RWD. But I am a 70s guy regarding cars and Cadillacs as I believe that’s when they peaked in their beauty and the downsizing then was just about right and you could still get a very good car. Except for some of the emissions but that was the communist governments it pushed all that crap.

Great video Bill! First time commenting on your vids but I’ve been watching them for a while now. My ex had this car, the STS version, and it was as peppy as anything else on the street, really. It’s a caddy so by definition it’s not a street racer, but it’s an exceptionally comfortable car to travel across the country in. I went from Chicago to LA and didn’t get any aches or pains even after driving 12 hours a day. This one is in amazing shape for a 32-33 year old car. It reminds me of my old ‘89 Toronado Troféo, they both were the same general body series, although mine only had a 3.8L 6 cyl in it. Thanks for the trip down memory lane this afternoon. Stay cool in that Florida steam bath you’ve got going on right now.

I had a white 1992 DeVille. Almost identical car. Mine was a little bigger, I have a column shifter rather than a center console shifter. My cloth ceiling and rear window side pillars where the opera lights were was not falling down/coming apart. My car was nearly mint. 120,000 miles on it and I got it for $1,000. No rust. Original everything. It drove like brand new.
I still have pictures of it. 4.9L V8 FWD. Super fast. So cozy. The same digital gauges, features and dash essentially. Fuel economy readouts, (how many miles till empty), digital climate control and tons more options.
I love these cars. I worked at a gas station in high school and loved driving different cars around to pickup and drop off customers. These had a ton of power. Great video
Right On!! about the "badge engineering" at the time. How Bill describes people being "pissed off" by the styling of these cars at the time is not an exaggeration. I am very glad he said it. I remember people were very disappointed when these cars came out after the the earlier Sevilles. We just knew it was a lesser car. It was really a "forgotten" car when it was new. It was at the top of practically nobodies list of cars to aspire to. However I respected the people that bought them new - they were usually very secure financially and stable types. Country club retirees would drive these and turn them in after about 2 years. I did not respect these cars though. The buyers would be the type where they would not let their kids borrow these cars - treating them as so precious. A variety of fogies would buy them - these cars helped propel them around so they could control their family with their money. Seriously, I think many bought them mainly for patriotic reasons and that they did not care about cars that much. Thanks for telling us how it was.
All very true! I remember people saying that the only reason they bought a Cadillac was to support American Auto companies and workers even though they would have preferred to BMW and they just couldn't bear to buy an overpriced Japanese car either. It used to be patriotic to support American products. Even if they were clearly inferior.
@@Jack_Stafford grandfather retired and had old cutlasses and went up to EL Dorado , a dream in retirement but it was an early 83 model with flames coming out of the dash, and failed tail lights that nearly cause a broadside collision with van and overheating on the grapevine highway up to AZ. Like many he added a fake cabriolet roadster roof to it but once it hit 7 yrs 70 k miles and warranty expired he immediately went car shopping. This car had a much more peppier engine that could go up hills and didn't have to downshift but he stopped across the street and saw the then Olds Calais International Series and thought the body of the cars looked and could buy it for half the price but the gm service dept. advised him not buy a quad 4 without a warranty, a gauge package with temp gauge and it was great until warranty ran out. He rented a white Grand Am on vacation and then saw this car and went back to the dealer for new climate control module and asked for Buick Park Ave Ultra and Pontiac SSEI literature and also looked at the Infinity I35 but Infin rode rougher. When the 92 STS made car of the year , he gave Cadillac another chance and it had far more improved build quality and real wood trim, the 4.9 went 185k miles and still ran strong. I remember that they offered him this car in the gold-white-beige with a thirty percent discount with warranty in november 1991and he liked the increased power and ride but politely declined. They did run well for a longtime, what it lacked in execution, it excelled in mechanical improvements. A retired attorney bought his traded Eldo as a second car and was frequently in the shop with it, He said it was the only car that he could drive while having back disk surgery with the therapy and get in/ out without pain, his wife liked the 91 but she also was sold on a base 92 Seville after one drive, they also looked at the Buick Ultra because the service dept. endorsed it but they gave the 92 seville 4.9 the green light so another 92 seville brought a Cadillac buyer back. This car was a step in the right direction but just a half step-later they got it right.
The History lesson with each car is fantastic, older pictures, names, design what the competition was like ect is very informative...........great job as you can tell the time you spent on research, thx !

Bill, the Caddy dash reminds me of 80's Pioneer home stereos and cassette decks at the time with "Fluroscan" displays. That was an era, when Nakimichi, Pioneer, Technics, and Hitachi were all duking it out.....LOL. Your youthful memories at the "Buick store" had me rolling my eyes. I bet you were lead footing many a Grandpa's car back then around the dealership lot.
Man do I love these obscure late 80's and early 90's domestic cars. I sense extreme collectability for nice examples in the next 5-10 years.

I own a very nice 93 Buick Park Avenue...looks immaculate, etc. But in the six years I have been driving around in it, not one compliment!...I do not see much hope of my car being a "collectible", based on it's not being noticed by anyone!

I actually own this car and collect these. I have a white 89 Seville with blue leather and a blue coach top. Car has 12k original miles. I also have a 10k red 89 Eldorado with a white leather interior and white coach top. These cars are really great and the 4.5 and 4.9 motors are great. You are correct in saying these cars have some real power. Always enjoy your videos and commentary and it’s nice to see a video on this car which is about as rare as finding a low mileage example of one.

Remember when Lincoln made fun of this model of Cadillac, in that commercial where valet drivers, and owners confused on who’s car was who’s. Arguing over them being a Cadillac, Buick, or Oldsmobile, because they all looked the same. Then a valet rolled out in a Lincoln Town Car hahahaha!

Somehow I fell into a deal for an Eldorado same generation and I fell in love...it was smooth of course but also surprisingly a blast to drive i foolishly sold it cause I had one car too many to park (6 yrs ago) and I _INSTANTLY_ missed it!!

I remember my aunt dating a guy with an early 1980s EL Dorado Biarritz = beautiful car, white tufted leather. who went to his trusted Cadillac dealer for his routine 3 year upgrade in mid-late 1980s and they presented him the new generation two door version of this car. He just turned around and walked out!! haha
I remember, we had one like this one with the 4.9 V8 on the used car lot, where I worked in 2003. It had some issue, which was common on that V8, where the valves made a racket. It was surprisingly responsive & handled better than expected. Other than the engine, it was in good shape with a nice inyerior. Sold it to a guy who knew how to fix or otherwise overcome the valve disorder (I can't remember what it was?) for $1200.
It looks good in its own way. Lincoln Mark VII LSC was my dream at the time. I agree with my young self. Mark VII LSC or no luxury car from this time period.
I wanted an LSC converted to Mustang's 5-speed so much back in the day.
I remember seeing an LSC convertible in a Lincoln showroom when we picked up our new Cougar in 85.
Not a factory option, I think the dealership owner had it done. It was beautiful.

Pontiac Grand Am, Buick Somerset were N bodies that were too close to the Seville in size.
I actually currently own a Sapphire blue one, with 179,000 miles. It still runs like a Bat out of Hell when you floor it. The front end rattles a bit, when you go over rail road track but what can you expect with that many miles. Still in excellent condition. I'm only second owner, My dad bought in new in 1990'. I then acquired it in 2002, after he pass.
I loved that little caddy looked good inside and out and was pretty reliable if you wanted a bigger caddy at the time get another model

My Mother had a 91 in black with black leather. She came out of an 87 triple black Town Car at the time and I think she liked the smaller size. I remember liking it too. It was a little small for a Caddy, but it was comfortable and actually drove pretty well. And compared to the Town Car, the Seville was down right sporty.

I had one of these , silver on gray. I remember the little red lights in the back on the headliner or just about on there anyway. If they were to tell you whether your brake lights were working or if you needed to replace the bulb. Love your videos I watch them all.
I am from Australia and in April 1991 I rented a Cadillac Seville from Alamo in Miami for 3 weeks and really enjoyed driving it around south Florida. It was so different from the cars we had at the time in Australia. I remember doing 100 mph on something called Aligator Alley I think it was but only for a short amount of time. I travelled to the USA a lot from 1978 to 2010 and drove a lot of rental cars including the Ford Pinto, Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Grand Prix, Ford Thunderbird and to Lincoln Town Car. In those days there was a huge choice of American cars that you could rent that in Australia we just didn't have.

You nailed it. This caddy and others from the period were designed for the Greatest generation who were in their 60s back in 1990. I was 24 back then and it was the Acura Legend that filled my eyes. Todays Caddies are are altogether different cars that of 33 years ago.

The 92 on Seville were MUCH more attractive. My late mothers last car was a polo green 92 Seville SLS with the bulletproof 4.9L V8, not the terrible early DeathStar V8. A beautiful car, ran perfectly for 6 years before Mom died. She loved it.

This was a beautiful car. This car was much less expensive than anything similar to it. I love the formal roof line. I love the size of the car. I was never a Fleetwood guy, the DeVille was pretty. But this cars was my pick and I would have purchased it

Wow. The speedometer reads over 85! The Continental stops counting at 85 haha. The STS was definitely a neat car in its era. Cool ride. Nice to see such a well preserved Seville. My late Grandmother had one for awhile, and a Cimarron. New car 2-3 year leases.
Believe it or not, the Mercury Grand Marquis reads up to 150mph

I've got a similar one. It's red inside, otherwise exactly as this one. Same trim, colour and year. Been in the family since almost new. What bothers me about all these stories about this model Seville is that all the stories concentrate on how GM was a bit lost with this car and it did not sell thar well. But if you forget about the Cadillac brand and the competitors, what you are left with is a pretty decent and modern car. This day, my car never left me on the road, fuel economy is decent, it mostly holds against years pretty well, fits very well on Europen roads, engine and transmission have never been opened, it is a nice car to drive, excellent in the winter, does not rust, and has a lot of modern technology very few 1990 cars had. My car has 265tkm, but he engine and transmission could probably take way more. Not many cars from 1990 were this good really.

Good ol GM brand engineering. I see they had some shifters left over from the Grand Nationals. At least they didn't go to waste.
Buick GNs used a completely different shifter and knob than this Seville used. Consider doing better research before commenting next time ice cream moron.

When these came out in '86 we called them Cadillac Grand Ams.

The Grand Am is better looking, which ain't saying much. What a turd-ish look to the Seville version. There are some nice curves to the body, but there are also some kind of ugly ones. GM wore out that sheer back glass and C-pillars look...

The 70’s Seville makes this thing look like an economy car
Well this was their attempt at a luxury economy car. Toyota and Honda were eating General Motors alive at the time. Remember, 4 years prior to this model, Honda and Toyota released their luxury flagship brands Acura and Lexus....Those brands and cars took off like wildfire.

These are actually pretty good looking cars compared to the other downsized 1980's and early 90's Cadillacs. I got to drive one of these back in the day and I remember that relative to other similar cars of the day, it had a decent amount of get up and go - it was an upgrade over these malaise-era behemoths with V8 engines putting out Miata-like horespower, that's for sure.
GM had a lot of cars that looked like they were poorly designed and tended to look like they were about to fall apart. The Seville became one of those cars, as well as the more current CTS, which I've seen a lot of them where the rear lower valance is loose. The new Camaros can barely take a hit in the front .

GM has diminished Cadillac virtually since 1985 when the “little” Devilles and Fleetwood came out. It worsened when this car and the new Eldorado came out in 1986. I wish GM would’ve learned from the Cimarron, but the GM CEO at the time, Roger Smith, just thought everyone wanted front drive cars. He got most everything wrong when he was CEO of GM from 1981 to 1990.

I had an '89 Legend coupe with a manual and holy smokes does this thing look ancient in comparison.
The STS had a more modern look but the rear was half-baked and overall this reminds me of my uncle's Celebrity more than anything.

I have a great 88 Eldorado, a survivor. I did all the ecm upgrades,rebuilt the chassie, replaced everything, even though it did run after being parked for 22 years in a garage. I'm the 3rd owner, Rosanne Cash engine the first, bought buy her dad....black with burgundy

Agree regarding the STS version. The large wheel/tire combo and ground effects totally changed the look of the car.
It's hard to believe that the wiper switch is on the dashboard,my '87 Silverado has the wiper switch on the turn signal stalk,if you took all the Cadillac logos off of the interior,you think it was a Oldsmobile. Once again thanks for making video Bill
All Cadillac models at this time still had their wiper switches traditionally on the dash to appease to the older folks.
Are you sure it wasn’t an ‘88, that’s when the body style changed to the one that continued until the late 90’s. The ‘87 still had the same dash configuration that began in 1974. It’s possible that it was a one-off though

I still love the shape. The blue with the blue interior was my favorite. I had to the poor man's Delta 88 in those colors in an 88. I could happily hop back in that car and drive it for years again.
I'm sitting burning through motorweeks retro library right now and I'm cracking up cuz I keep waiting for John to say something about Canadians when he goes to the backseats of the cars... Wasn’t this car first brought out in that movie with Arnie ‘Twins’ with Danny devito? They drove across country in one and it featured prominently.
