@@statboardgamer so the factions in shot on asymmetric like root but there are two that are very different and the other two are the exact same faction with different colors. Maybe some slight variation, but I prefer root anyway
Ahoy is fun. I saw it described as a beer and pretzels game and thats a really great description. You def need a group though that can play a game in which you beat the crap out of each other but also not take it too seriously. Its a game ill never say no to playing unless im with people that are overly competitive/AP prone
Disagree on summoners wars haven’t played it THAT much cuz I’m on magic junkie but I always wanted a deck based strategy game and that scratched that itch. Plus it’s very tactical and replay ability is crazy
Agreed! The replay ability with the different decks is fire! Even the idea of mixing and matching different decks sounds amazing. Just didn’t enjoy the game as much as I hoped I would! Wish I enjoyed it more
One I really didn't click with was Cerebria. And I disagree with rolling realms, love that game! Simple enough to teach. Man IM SO JEALOUS of andromeda's edge. Wanted to hop on that train so bad. Money and time just too limited. Have fun with it! Played it on tabletop and I think it's pretty good.
Didn't own it, but played it at a Escape Winter this year - Barrage. Way too long for the low amount of enjoyment and way too easy to get screwed after putting a ton of time and effort it your plan. Hated Rolling Realms and wouldn't try it again.
@@mikeduy wooooo that’s a tough one for me! I loved galaxy trucker! But hey it’s valid! I could totally see why people would be done with it! What specifically did you not like?
In my opinion, this video destroys your credibility as a content creator. If you can't recognize that the first (few) plays of (many if not all) games are learning games and very often dont show the actual guts of a game, then the games you'll enjoy and champion will be highly biased. Mood, play group, rules understanding, etc can all influence your gampelay, so when you say "for whatever reason" i didnt like it and so won't play it again, I really just cant trust your reviews on games anymore. You say some of these are just games you don't see having the opportunity to play again, and thats one thing, but your tag of "one play is all it takes" means something different, and many of these games you just say that you didnt enjoy your first play "for whatever reason" so youre not going to bother. Youre missing out on some amazing games by reacting to your first experience, granted, if you're goal is just to play as many different games as possible as opposed to actually see what each one has to offer, then i get it. But those are have been in hobby for a while im sure all have exmaples of when they played a game that they loved at first but got bored after say five plays, or, games they hated at first, but then became one of their all time favorites when the subtleties of the design revealed itself. In some cases like i already said, you just had the wrong expectations - eg ahoy is not meant to replace root. Saying "i like Root way more" despite them being in totally different weight classes tells me you should give it another shot with reset expectations (im not saying I love ahoy). Some of my examples 1. Fury of Dracula - played it once. was totally bored. played it three more times, each play was more boring than the last and it just dragged on way too long for too little reward 2. Res Arcana - played it a couple of times and just thought it was way too lucky and whoever got the 2-3 best cards won every time. After a few more plays i found more and more strategies. 50+ games later, its in my top 10 3. Get on Board - played a few weeks and thought it was such a fun clever flip and write. After a couple of more plays i really just couldn't find anything that it had to offer to keep coming back to it 4. Concordia - first time i played it, the design amazed me. such a huge decision space for so little components. I kept playing, and playing, and playing, and playing....#1 game now 5. Le Havre - so many cool things to do. The number of choices seemed amazing to explore. After a few games though, all the choices started feeling not that different from each other. The abundance of good choices actually removed all the tension. 6. Citadels - absolutely horrific first experience. I thought it would be a cool rocks-paper-scissors type game, but instead I got absolutely wrecked and decimated the entire game, then ended up being a king maker and choosing who won. But going into it next time i was no long expecting a super light game and really thought about my choices and enjoyed the experiences 7. Five Tribes - said i would sell after my play. Felt totally overwhelmed...then played it at a different player count and fell in love with it 8. Bad Company - Thought it would be a good twist on Space Base. Instead i just thought it was space base with way less decisions. Really disappointed in how long i spent in trying to get it, and after actually a few plays just thought i made a mistake. I even wrote a review, giving it a 7. Then I played it again, and again, and again... and realized that just because they share mechanics doesnt make them the same game. Bad Company has a totally different vibe - less thinky and more fun forward, but still a ton of different strategies. I now choose it over Space Base 8 out of 10 times and rate bad company a 9.
You should really watch the beginning of the video cause I explained myself and what I meant by one and done. These aren’t bad games, I enjoyed these games but felt that I didn’t want to play them again for various reasons. It shouldn’t hurt my credibility at all. As you can see behind me that I have played and play lots of games. So sometimes, not all the time, I run across a game that I play once and I thought it was fine, but it’s just not going to get played again because there are other games that feel similar but I had more fun playing. Many people including other content creators have shared similar stories of playing a game once and felt that the one play was sufficient. The tag line one play is all it takes is a play on the dua lipa song “one kiss is all it takes”! So although I appreciate the comment and you viewing my video, I don’t think you understood the purpose of my video. If I didn’t make it clear what my video is about then that’s my bad. But I feel like I explain what I mean by one and done. Many people skip my explanations and then get mad at me in the comments and I don’t really know how to fix that. So I’m sorry that you felt that way. I hope my credibility stays in tact with you because I get a lot of opportunities to share my opinions and I try to be objective as much as possible, but game reviewing is entirely subjective. Also I don’t review games unless I’ve played the. Extensively. This video is not a review of these games. So I hope this helps explain my views
@@925Gamers oh i watched the opening. your explanation is totally fair...but it doesnt apply to many of the games you listed. instead you just say "for whatever reason" i didnt like it and thus wont play it again.
