    The lyrics come from Egil’s saga, a icelandic saga about Egill Skallagrimsson. The legend told that Egill wrote this poem when he was 7 or 8 years old, the night after he killed his first man but Snorri Sturluson is probably the author. I image you would like their The Dragonborn Comes, and Geoff's low bass covor of Over the Misty Mountains Cold. The majority of sounds comes from their mouths, occasionally you'll see or hear a foot stamp or chest thump, etc. But other than their Warriors they don't use instrumentation of any kind. Geoff does use some plugins in his solo low bass covers as well as harmonising with himself.

    Eli made the backgrounds with Unreal Engine and if you listen closely they have put in the background environment sounds for each location. Their attention to detail is just amazing. I can watch their videos over and over and notice something new each time.

    They're talking about Viking ships The galley is the ship and oars are for the oar men to row with.

    Some of Layne's sounds also come from the body... evident in this song when he slams his fist on his chest. In some songs (Warriors comes to mind) they also stomp. But it is all unmediated by stone/metal/wood. Occasionally in some songs (Hoist the Colors) they use something (rattle shackles) but when they do, they show them. Nothing is hidden. In Warriors Layne plays violin in a way I've never heard Violin played (J None also plays violin in that song, but he plays pizzicato in a way that's familiar). After Warriors was released folks called him "vio-Layne" for the longest time.... Bottom line, if you don't see an instrument or object, it's just Layne and his body. You need to listen to their Greatest Showman medley - there's a passage where every one of them, including Rachel Potter does some quick vocal percussion. Wonderful! Thanks for your reaction, I really enjoyed it.

    I love seeing your appreciation for the effort VoicePlay go to for their songs and the videos. I think you'll enjoy their two most recent songs: Dragonborn Comes (from the video game Skyrim), and We Don't Talk About Bruno (from Disney's Encanto).

    I believe that sound you were talking about from Beatboxer Layne was just his voice, but done while inhaling instead of exhaling to give it a different effect.

    • @janetdw
      @janetdw 2 роки тому

      He also does a very deep inhaled note in the Bruno cover. According to people who know, he can hit an A0, lower than Geoff hit in HALO.

    Amazing performance. Layne, Kevin and Adam Rupp make all the sounds with their body, mostly the mouth. As Adam demonstrates in "Home Free: Drum Solo".

    The Greatest Showman Feat Rachel Potter and The Dragonborn Comes/Skyrim theme Feat Omar Cardona are both a must for any Voiceplay fans. Each time they manage to go one better than the last and they have never failed to disappoint.
    I've seen people cry when they've heard The Greatest Showman Medley by Voiceplay, it's that powerful and Rachel shows off her real vocal power.
    If you're a fan of Skyrim, you will hear something that's not in the song, but you'll know it immediately. Not saying what it is, but Skyrim fans will catch it straight away.

    I know you sometimes have trouble getting movies where you are. But if you have seen the movie Encanto you have got to watch their newest release, We Don’t talk about Bruno. I was a tad confused, until I realized that Geoff was playing Camilo the Shapeshifter. Don’t eat or drink anything while watching it or you will spit it out all over your keyboard. It’s probably the funniest one that I’ve ever seen. The funniest reaction is by What it do Dave. It’s worth watching just on its own to watch a big burly man like that giggle uncontrollably.

    Galley and barq are two types of boat or ship, in this case most likely referring to viking long ships. While these had 1-2 masts with large square sails, they also had a row of long oars or sweeps on each side ro move the ship in calm weather or shallow water ares and when coming into dock.

    @bjspeck4337 Рік тому

    A galley is a sailing ship with oarlocks that you can lock the oars or paddles in place along the rails to get someplace when you have no wind. A noble barque (pronounced bark) is a well-made ship/boat.

    Acapella is great, they are all so talented. I'm sure there are more groups out there other than the big 4 we see on YT. The best thing is they are all different from each other so we can enjoy all of them without prejudice. Hope they all keep on keeping on. So glad you like and appreciate them as well Sam.

    I agree that it's a fantastic song. It is a Viking sea shanty. I believe that it was used in a Netflix series called Vikings that ran for six season. Loved your reaction.

    The dictionary says a galley is "a low, flat ship with one or more sails and up to three banks of oars, chiefly used for warfare, trade, and piracy." The oars are basically long paddles, and there would be rows of men on benches working these oars in unison to propel the boat when there was no wind or other times when going without sails was desirable.

    • @DougRayPhillips
      @DougRayPhillips 2 роки тому

      Sounds like they're also saying "barque" (pronounced "bark"). That too is a type of ship.

    • @DennisKovacich
      @DennisKovacich 2 роки тому

      @@DougRayPhillips, if you watch it with captions turned on, you’ll see that it is indeed “noble barque I steer.” Geoff’s wife has profound hearing loss, so most VoicePlay videos and (I think) all of Geoff’s solo videos have captions included. Sometimes they even include funny notes that automatic captions can’t do. For example, in VoicePlay’s “Oogie Boogie’s Song,” the repeated line at the end adds “lower, even lower, and subterranean” in parentheses, and his solo cover of “Sixteen Tons” it says “super dramatic bend to a low F#.”

    VoicePlay often uses some effects (echo, reverb, etc.) to shape the sounds. They will also layer multiple tracks to get more depth.

    Not sure anyone answered your question: A Galley is a wooden boat, and oars are the wooden paddles they use to row. They slur around the words sometimes and its hard to understand....good reaction as always!

    I love how much you love their music and videos. They are amazing artists indeed, deserving of so much more attention than they get. By the way, "feat" in their titles is short for "featuring".

    So you have now seen the Trifecta of A Capella....Pentatonix (the pop/synth kids), Home Free (the Choir Country kids) and VoicePlay (the theatrical kids). They are ALL amazing. I prefer HF just because I seem to enjoy their style and music more...but I love many Voiceplay songs (if I were a rich man/women comes to mind) and Pentatonix (I love many of their songs). My only issue with Geoff and VoicePlay is that sometimes the bass seems to be a gimmick or out of place for the song...just because you can. A perfect example is Tim Foust from Home Free...his bass is also incredible and you occasionally get a bass bomb, but it usually is always stylistically appropriate for the song. But all three bands and all individuals in each band are INCREDIBLY talented and I enjoy all three!

    Ok here is a piece of advice, all you UA-camrs that do reactions need to stop reacting to all the same artist and songs, first don't listen to much to subscribers because they watch other UA-camrs that react and they're all just picking the same stuff, and don't react to songs because they are popular reaction with other UA-camrs. It is getting boring..there are hundreds of thousands of songs please be different. Voice play isn't near as good and the guy who does the base isn't natural he trys to hard to be the bass tones
    But miss Samantha please don't react to the same songs and artist because of subscribers on here all suggest the same ones over and over. I mean you can tell by your numbers you have 49 thousand scuscibers and your views are way way low ,it's because your doing all these artists and songs everyone else is doing cause you think since they are popular it will get views,but it's the opposite. People aren't watching your reactions cause they have seen these a bunch of times by other UA-camrs.
