Came today because of Eddie's death and knew this would be the only OTHER version of Eruption out there worth my time. Thanks for this great piece, Dweezil!
Randy Rhodes version is way better, played correctly actually by someone who actually knew how to play technically. Not knocking EVH but as good as he was he was a hack.
I have read somewhere before in GW magazine (I think it's the EVH Billy Corgan one) that Eddie considers Dweezil Zappa to be closest one to ever play his style and technique.
What an incredible tribute to Eddie Van Halen who sadly died today at the age of 65 after a cancer battle. Dweezil Zappa did a fantastic job covering this classic kick ass piece. There will never be another great musician like EVH. Rest in Peace Eddie Van Halen.
That is supremely beautiful. What a legend. And let’s not forget, he had to learn his Dad’s tunes from the records. That is no joke. I take my hat off to that man.
My pup has a toy named Dweezil. This guy is a lucky man who knows it and behaves with humility and sincerity. Probably something he gained from having Frank for a father.
Dweezil’s cover (and Pete Thorn’s) are 2 best versions I’ve seen. I’ve seen many people play Eruption but it is very difficult to ‘truly’ nail it -due to Ed’s swing feel and use of echo/reverb (and the MXR Script Phase 90). Awesome Dweezil!
I agree with others- this IS the best cover I've heard. I rarely watch cover vids of classics like this, because they almost never improve or even equal the original. It seems a bit pointless. But a Zappa version? Well, I know that he always respected EVH, and being a ZAPPA, I knew he wouldn't put his name on an Eruption cover unless it was spot-on. Therefore I had to hear it. I'm very impressed! Other than one or two off notes, the technicality was nearly perfect! BUT - as I'm sure Dweezil will readily agree - no one will capture Ed's energy completely in the string bending department. It lacked the electricity of the original. I know that Dweezil already knows this. Still, it's the closest I've heard and almost eerie! Awesome job, Dweezil. Score: 98/100.
As he will likely admit (because when you look up the term “perfectionist…”) - it wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t note for note. And he knows that we other perfectionists know, and he’s COOL WITH IT. That one minor “blip” forgiven, it’s absolutely perfect. From the whammy bar nuances, to the spot-on tapping section that every single player on this entire planet learns when they’re 13/14/15, to the legato picking, EVERYTHING. Is PERFECT. You could put those side by side and I bet they’re within a beat apart
This is child’s play to Dweezil. When you can memorise and play his Dad’s music the way Dweezil’s done, then “Eruption” is not a big deal. And it helps when you’ve had Steve Val and Eddie Van Halen teaching you how to play guitar in the first place!
I could understand people disliking Dweezil if his guitar playing sucked. But the man is obviously incredibly talented and who better to carry his father's legacy than him especially since guitar wise he is even more technically proficient that Frank. Kuddos to him for mastering his instrument.
Eddie gave dwezil guitar lessons when he was 12 and went and played with him at his school talent show.made few guitars for him also.was good friends with his dad Frank.
Part of the Zappa gene must be the ability to play covers identical to the original. FZ used to to do this in his shows, a mid concert nod toward familiar hits exactly as you'd heard them on the radio (or slightly better). Pretty good stuff.
Frank initially didn't want to be Dweezil's main teacher, he wanted Steve to be that. I believe the reasoning was that FZ considered his own style to be rather too idiosyncratic, whereas Dweezil could learn more commercially useful skills from Steve. I don't think Frank was imagining that Dweezil would end up spending a lifetime playing his Dad's music and successfully touring it around the world.
Eddy and Dweezil dad frank where great friends and Eddy would go over to franks house alot and Dweezil a big Eddy fan when he was very young...you know Eddy taught Dweezil but also his father frank did too...Frank did those tapping strings before Eddy came on the seen..go look at some of franks old videos and you'll see.....if van halen still wanted to tour they can get Dweezil to play.. he's knows and can play every guitar licks Eddy did..because Dweezil was taught by two guitar masters frank zappa and Eddy Van halen.. rip Eddy we will sadly miss u..
Okay -- so Eddie hangs out with you and taught you note for note??? Never heard anyone capture not just the notes but the Eddie vibe too! Amazing! Thanks to you and Edward! You don't have a lesson of how to play this somewhere do you?
Great Mr. Dweezil. Thank You very much.
Here my Dweezil guitar cover: ua-cam.com/video/Uu8A1hQA2nE/v-deo.html
I hope you like it.
Great and moving tribute 🙏❤️
Now this is what happens when you’re taught by the man himself 🙏🏼🙏🏼

@@ineffable1129 can you link that? I’ve never seen randy play eruption
Dweezil Is so Underated , he's up there with all the greats in My book.
What ratings are you refrerring to?
That was by far the best eruption cover I've ever heard! Spot on!!
You're right, even the tone is absolutely the same!
AGREEEE
....
For sure!
it was good dunno what 0:34 - 0:36 was tho..
Its because the tone is spot on.
A great rock guitarist paying his respects to a legendary rock musician.
that was 100% perfect. Crap I thought I was listening to the album for a minute.
I have read somewhere before in GW magazine (I think it's the EVH Billy Corgan one) that Eddie considers Dweezil Zappa to be closest one to ever play his style and technique.
Eddie was a family friend of Frank, he mentored Dweezil when he was young. Long relationship btw Eddie and Dweezil.
Never gets old. The tapping always erupts the dopamine in my brain.
DWEEZIL! LOVE THIS DUDE! Always great to see him play! very underrated!
I had no idea. that was great. note for note perfection.
Dweezil absolutely kills the eruption cover. The best cover I've ever heard. I'm astounded, he fucking nails it

Like father like son. Frank and Dweezil are the Best!!!
The return of the king.
That is supremely beautiful. What a legend. And let’s not forget, he had to learn his Dad’s tunes from the records. That is no joke. I take my hat off to that man.
That was worth my time. Nice work.
THE BEST CLONING ERUPTION
EVER..!!!
Joe Bandung he nailed it for sure... if you want to learn how to play note for note check out Pete Thorne eruption video instruction. Just the best...
That tone and technique was just killer!
He played it spot on. Almost exactly how Eddie plays it.
Fantastic cover of the Eruption solo!Such a nice tribute to EVH!Awesome!
Holy crap, wow! His tone is spot on "early Van Halen"!! Nailed it technically, too.
Why all of the hate against Dweezil Zappa? No one chooses what family they are born into so why the hate?
Clean. Freaky cool. Dweezil Van Zappa.
DVZ... well done.
I've NEVER seen anyone it better
Wow , super well done version .
My pup has a toy named Dweezil.
This guy is a lucky man who knows it and behaves with humility and sincerity.
Probably something he gained from having Frank for a father.
what a family!!!
Well said. Dweezil's pedigree says it all. He's good in his own right thanks to Dad!
@@paulmoline2892more thanks to Eddie who started teaching him at age 12 when he was playing at 9 months when Eddie met Dweezil
Dweezil is so accurate on this, brilliant
DWEEZILS PLAYING SPEAKS 4 ITS SELF
This guys gets a lot of flack but, he's a nice guy, great guitarist and human being. Always impressed.
Greatness respects Greatness.
Best rendition yet!
Great and moving tribute 🙏❤️

Great guitar player M. Dweezil your father will be proud of you.
Beautiful job Dweez!
That was rad.
He’s a fantastic guitarist
Outstanding!
Definitely made his father proud
Dweezil been playing like that since he was 12
You can tell he directly played with EVH, he got it down to muscle memory

Dweezil does it the best of anyone other than the KING
Brilliant!!!

I came here as a Dweezil fan expecting a solid, fun “version” of it, but this is like… nearly a note for note rendition. What the HELL
Nicely done boss...
.. Awesome!!
Dweezil, you got some amazing chops brother. You play super clean
Holy greatfulness
played PERFECTLY!
Just great
Man that makes me want to cry...

Wolfie VH should pull a Dweezil and say, "No! This is my daddy's music, I'm the only one allowed to play it 😢😢😢"
No surprise, he is Dweezil Zappa 😁
Not to mention Steve Vai was in his dad's band....fucking amazing..life this guy must've had growing up.
Frank initially didn't want to be Dweezil's main teacher, he wanted Steve to be that. Goosebumps
How can anyone dislike this? Dweezil does a pretty bitchin job!

After that i just have something to say; _Van Zappa_
Nice !
Nailed.
and Eddie smiles
Sure with Dweezil could do the Zappa Plays Zappa Shows again
Sounds exact
And then I expect to hear 'Ain't talkin bout love!'
Endezeichen Grimm you mean you really got me?
Rock on! \m/
Nice. I have to pick that up. It’s good for the soul. Every guitarist must. It’s part of the vernacular.
Really made daddy proud.
uh....NAILED IT!
If they do the kitchen sink show.....dweezil..is the only man qualified
Amazing. So many guitarists play this but never the same like Eddie. But Dweezils touch of the neck comes very close
He has a great ear 👂 like his father
Wow that was pretty good lol
Ayos Yan sir
Helluva player
I had my doubts but damn. He did learn from the The Master.
He better know how, His pop now him
Dweezil sure was (is) a good guitar player.

This one, Bumblefoot and John 5 are the only ones that can play it perfectly
That was fuckin rad
