My first saxaphone! I chose the Buffet over Yamaha options because of my bias towards their clarinets, and I wanted to start my journey with a brand I trust well. Apparently, the 100 and 400 alto series are Chinese made, rebranded horns, but with the Buffet branding.
@Scottsmusiccave yes, my horn is from china. It looks like all the manufacturing and assembly is done overseas then the instruments are taken to France to be played for QC.
It seems that it all comes down to quality control regardless of where the sax is made and that investment in quality control will inevitably add to the final cost.
The problem is the saxophones are now made in Taiwan and aren’t anything close to the French made saxophones. The 400s are decent but not exciting in my opinion.
@Scottsmusiccave I'm an expat living in Taiwan. There are some good saxophones here, but the problem is they don't really understand how to set up the saxophone properly. I'm lucky that my music teacher here studied in the states and knows what a decent set up is. Hopefully one day you make it here to see the factories :)
Very nice video. Would love to see a review on the Conn-Selmer Prelude AS-711 student model alto sax. I just purchased one during the holidays.
I think those are well made saxophones, but I will give an honest review next time I get a new one in. Thanks for watching!

That’s true. They used to be made in France and were a completely different saxophone. Was yours the newer Chinese/ taiwanese version?

Good afternoon this is a STUDENT inst and sjould be judged as such .l think it is a great horn.

Agreed! Some of these saxophones have some pretty big profit margins.
Hi, what is the strap you are wearing?
It’s a Boston Sax Shop Newbury deluxe. It’s really comfortable. Tell them I sent you please!
What would you say is the best saxophone that buffet makes? Maybe they should stick to making clarinets.

I’d love to come to Taiwan! There are some great saxophones made in Taiwan. I guess that came out wrong.
@Scottsmusiccave I know what you mean though. I guess it's more a workmanship thing is probably what you're trying to say 😄
Probably the Buffet Crampon Senzo Alto. I've also heard great reviews about the Baritone 400
