The streets are completely empty. Why hire a carriage when there's nobody to see it? This speaks volumes about our modern culture. Jessye Norman was one of the great artists of the 20th century, and even in her own home town where she created a school for the arts, the lack of appreciation for the arts is pervasive.

That was a bit shocking to see very little support from the local community

The funeral service was nice. Maybe it was for the best to have a peaceful and quiet procession. Also, she was well known on the international stage. Probably not so much in her hometown where she'd left almost 50 years ago. The people from her youth are no longer with us and not many folks of our generation knows much of her. Atleast there are those who have known her and of her and will continue to enjoy the work she's left to us. ⚘🕯🙏

As for the carriage, a beauty is always nice and she deserved it. She was a marvelous woman and her career and deeds prove it.

@@adamm.6386 There's a free school for the arts bearing her name in Augusta, GA that Jessye Norman help to create and continued to fund. At the very least, you would think students, parents, faculty and alumni would be on the street to pay respect. Apparently not.

@@adamm.6386 The problem with the horse-drawn carriage is that it highlighted the fact that the streets were empty. I noticed that the funeral service was also rather sparsely attended. I think there would have been a much bigger turnout had the funeral been in New York where she lived.

Why was she in a wheelchair towards the end of her life?

From the Internet~Jessye Norman suffered a spinal-cord injury in 2015. She died at Mount Sinai Morningside in Manhattan on September 30, 2019, aged 74. The cause of death was given as "septic shock and multi-organ failure secondary to complications of" the spinal cord Injury.
Although I cannot confirm it(from the Internet),it would seem to have been caused by a fall in 2015,and given her weight it could have been a severe result.;after this she was usually seen in a wheelchair
