I love the Tabernacle Choir, especially hearing the Organists play & create, they are amazing, my greatest gift is also being a musician on piano & Organist for many years..I love the Hymns, solos & the great voices of the Choir..
We lovingly remember Clay and Diane and their children from our Utah days. Several very special memories--including one time when Clay was playing in our ward and Diana and I got the giggles (not because of the music!)
+steve bournias Not just him, the center part of the organ and some of the pipes are from the original 1860s organ built by Joseph Ridges, then the Austin organ company first added the wings to the organ in 1915, then like you said G. Donald Harrison basically added and changed some pipes and other stuff, to the organ in 1948.
Ridges pipes are:sw lieblich 16, echo gedeckt 8;10 facade pipes of 32';32 flute ouverte is 1885 Niels Johnson; sw clarabella is 1901 Kimball'32 bourdon 1-12 is Austin 1915;all other pipes are A-S 1948 and Schoenstien 1988 including 2 stops [hi pressure] from Austin and 3 gt reeds by Schopps...
