Yep, it's a fascinating instrument. The only hole is at the end of the hollow bark-tube where the air comes out-- what notes he makes depends on how hard he is blowing, although with one finger on his right hand he can "modulate" the tonality very slightly (the drum-like sound you hear is from touching the end of the flute like that). Really looking forward to spring already so I can go out and make one of these..! The sap in the willow has to be just right.
I understand now after a little research ... I will definitely make a williow flute after decades of playing flute but not hearing about this until now. Gratitude! Blessings of joy from Ireland 💖🙏🌻
@@Vingul It is, there are a lot of willow flute, playing on the background. You can find an example of it if you search "Northern Journey Flute Song " on UA-cam. Or maybe it's not EXACTLY willow flute but the sound seems very familiar, for me
Cool. It is willow flute, but I guess it's been sampled and then a tune has been composed with the samples, it sounds more electronic and isn't an actual Norwegian folk tune but made to sound quite like one, with a simpler melody. Thanks for the tip.
Amazing -- I did think I understood all of that -- I'll admit I had to double check though ^^ The small part leading up to the blowing-hole, where his left hand is, is the only part of the Flöte that has wood in it. The rest is only bark that has been removed whole from the rest of the stick, which he has discarded. I'll subtitle the whole "film" eventually where you can see him do it.
@@Vingul Sehr gut!
It's definitely "et sikkert vårtegn" (a sure sign of spring) when you hear it being played... not that it happens very often anymore. Probably someone else will have that experience when I make one next spring. Will try to make die Flöte last longer by dipping it in wasser.
@@Vingul This Eivind Groven clip made me think specifically of the shallow stream final shot in Stalker. The balloon and horse scene in Rublev is enchanting. He was a truly an exceptional poet. Dude knew how to slow roll.
@@vulpespersona yes, Tarkovsky is unmatched in that regard. I've been meaning to revisit his entire ouevre, but his films really demand full attention. I think this autumn and winter will be the time for it.
Wow!
Great, thanks.
Thank you, F.S.
Very nice and relaxing.
The only way this music could be improved would be to hear the sounds of nature, rivers, birds, insects, etc. as a ground to the melody. Brilliant.

Incredible, how is he getting the notes? His fingers don't seem to move! lol

Came here from The Northern Journey
I'm not familiar with that, is there willow flute playing in the game?

thank you for replies, didn't really expect that much attention for a simple "hey there" comment I've left here :)
@@АлексейТёмный-к2щ You're welcome, I found it interesting ^^ cheers.
Die Flöte klingt sehr gut. Wie kann man die Flöte aushöhlen? Ich denke, er hat keinen langen Bohrer dabei.

@@Vingul 😆 you speak in norwegian, me in german. I'm in!
Okay interessant. Du musst ein Video drehen wenn du die Flöte nächstes Jahr selbst herstellst
@@Hans-tr6dx det skal jeg gjøre! ;) har tenkt tanken.
Tarkovsky vibes
I didn’t think about it when seeing this, but birch groves do sometimes remind me of Ivan’s Childhood!
@@Vingul Lots of flowing water shots in his oeuvre. Also, I seem to recall some birch groves as well in Andrei Rublev.
@@vulpespersona True! The Solaris opening sequence for instance.. excellent. Rublev I rewatched quite recently, love it.
