Hi, i know it’s been 4 years since you posted this but i have some questions i would like to propose and since i like this song so much and apparently you do too i thought it was justifiable to bother you and ask. i think i do not understand some of the phrases and as a non native, thought maybe a native english speaker would understand it better and help me. First, who’s Davie (or dave)? As I understand the narrator is talking to davie (another man as the masculine name suggests) about a woman whom she is loved by the narrator but she did not love him back and now she is crying for some other love rival which she prefered. But then the narrator goes ahead and says “you have my love…”. Is he in love with dave?Or He is talking to her now?And what does he mean by “ i won’t be coming home”. Is dave someone who lives with him or does he live with the woman? Is Dave the rival? Or he just can’t sleep and wants to stay in the street for the night? I am profoundly confused.

Davie is the lead singer (Andrew Davie). He's talking to himself in the beginning. He switches talking to her when he says "You will never be alone." He begins the song talking to himself like "don't you see she never even cared about you like you did for her?" Despite this, he tells her she'll never be alone, because he will always love her. She "placed (their) trust upon the pyre," meaning she took their trust and burned it up by betraying him in some way.
I'm not positive, but I think "I won't be coming home tonight" simply means he won't be returning to her. Whether "home" is a physical home that they shared together or the home that he found in her is up for interpretation. :)

Thanks to the new show (Tracker) on CBS ... heard "Lonesome" at the end of premier episode and now HOOKED on Bear's Den... already purchased a dozen songs, which iTunes had more of the live versions, those are the best!!!! Heading to Ireland end of March, just wish they were playing somewhere in the last week of March, would LOVE to see them live.

I hope there is more of this on the new album and less Electric sound. Ex: Mumford and Sons new album....Matthew and the Atlas as well.
I was wrong.
I understand where you coming from. I first fell in love with Mumford and Sons and Bear's Den because of their acoustic/folk/rock sound. Just like how we are in life, we want to try new things. Artist want to do the same. Do you think Mumford and Sons and Bear's Den want to keep on making the same type music over and over again for the rest of their musical career? Probably not. For us fans and avid listeners, I don't want to be listening to the same type of music from these artist over and over again. I want to listen to something new. Well, at least for me. Albums like Sigh No More, Babel, and Islands will always be there for us to listen to. Plus, who says that they will never go back to their roots. Also, songs like The Wolf, Snake Eyes, Ditmas, Tomkins Square Park, Dew on the Vine, and New Jerusalem aren't that bad.
Very true. It was more just me wanting the same feelings I got with those albums you mentioned. The new albums weren't bad at all, just in comparison didn't provide the same feeling. For Mumford and Son's specifically, the lyrics and overall musical structure is a downgrade....not bad, just not as good for me.
The man who is singing is one of the most attractive men I have ever seen. Very handsome.
