They're from Sweden. Been around since '88. They are one of the most influential metal bands around. The album this song is from basically created a new metal genre: Djent.
Another nice one to follow up this one is 'Break those bones whose sinews gave it motion' or ' Demiurg'
Meshuggah regreted being the creators of "Djent" and the genere was created before obzen album, older albums from the band they were already influence in other bands and what is now known as Djent.

I highly recommend watching some of Thomas Haakes(the drummer of meshuggah) drum playthroughs, or any of their live songs in general, its awe inspiring!
The instrumentals on ANY meshuggah song, is just pure gold, they are absolute masters at their craft!
I would suggest listening to the drum playthrough with thomas hake. This version is missing the full relentless ending of the song. And I mean relentless lol. Loved your reactions :)

Meshuggah - Bleed is the absolute best drums ever. Seeing them live is something else and just seeing the Tomas Haake live drums on YT is something else. Also the music video is like only half the full song which clocks in at almost 8 min

With metal like this I usually just look up the lyrics later, its very hard to hear the words. I do tend to enjoy a little lighter metal, but the kick drums are just so infectious. I do also love the instrumental version of this song. This is mood music for me though, not every day listening.

Saw these guys open for Megadeth once. This was the song they ended their set with. Sheer madness. One of those times I was REALLY glad I wasn't near the pit.
And fyi the 3 hand symbols the godlike guy is throwing up are 3 6’s, symbolic of man’s inherent evil which is what the whole ObZen album is about

This is somehow Meshuggah's most accessible song despite how ridiculous it is, the average person would have their brains melted within the first 30 seconds. If you liked the instrumentals here, you'll probably enjoy plenty of others even if they're more confusing. Check out Phantoms, New Millenium Cyanide Christ, or Clockworks. Meshuggah is nuts.

I mean, this stuff is like a lullaby for me, and I still can't understand what they are saying, lol. I catch some things here and there. Maybe I'm still green with my metal listening, but I love Brand of Sacrifice, Angelmaker is great, Make Them Suffer, Lorna Shore of course, White Chapel, Infant Annihalator, Fit For an Autopsy, Vulvodynia, I think Slaughter to Prevail is kind of mid but I can listen to them. I listen to more as well as metal core bands being my second favorite subgenre, I enjoy Power Metal here and there even though it's extremely cheesy and corny, but it's fun. Brand of Sacrifice is my favorite band after listening to Demon King.
Definitely check out the songs Rational Gaze, Born In Dissonance, Demiurge, New Millenium Cyanide Christ and Humilative. They are heavy enough to create their own gravitational pull. Enjoy 😊

Thats one of my most played workout songs xD. The drummer needed half a year to play this song and another half to play the other songs for the album. They programmed the song first on the computer and it seemed almost impossible for a drummer to play it. The foodwork and the ghost notes are insanly hard to play consistent with the time changes.
For me the lyrics were firstly distracting, but the drums hocked me first. The arrangment of the bass/guitars second and the lyrics last.
Little detail here: The purpose of this rythm was meaned to describe the feeling of a neverending tinitus that slowly drives you insane. Thats why the guitars imitate the slowly fading and then growing sound waves of a neverending suffering.
The live version of this video is better bc it focuses on the drum player in the back.

For a different pace, but still metal, check out The Contortionist, specifically songs from their album “Language.” It’s one of my all time favourite metal albums, and it’s so diverse. It can do heavy, it can be melodic, clean vocals/harsh vocals, all within seconds of each other. It’s masterful.

Absolutely, mate! I kinda discovered rock throught neighbours, while I was a kid.. Then my father's records made me kinda like disco and prog-rock (at the time, I did notv"saw" itcas rock, as synts and organs/mellotrons were my main focus then).
Today, I still go back to my father/grandparents records when I feel the need for "old-school" portuguese songs/Fado, etc. WhilecI do listen to lots of Black-Metal and Psychedelic Trance.. And everything in between.

It took me a decent amount of time. When I finally started listening to extreme metal in my early twenties I listened to nothing but death metal every day for the next 15 years. I grew up on classic rock and still love it, but metal took over my soul. It's the vast majority of what I listen to. So in the beginning I read lyrics whe I listened I. I also listened to a bunch of different vocalist. In a year or two I could understand most of what I liked. I still can't understand a lot. It never mattered its the over all feeling I get from the song Ithat pulls me in.
