    Many Thanks for your clear and easy to follow video. Roller blinds are not rocket ship complicated lol lol, but not entirely self evident as to how to deal with them. Your clarity is superb!

    Bravo! One of our new roller shades arrived with the chain half-off, and this video saved us a 'rant' at the store, and hours of wasted personal time. Fixed it within 8 minutes. Great video! Thanks!

    If your clutch fails, you may have a hard time replacing it, particularly for older shades. One trick is to examine the cover over the chain. If that cracks (as it will in older shades), the chain will slip when raising the shade. You may be able to get it working with a combination of superglue and a hot glue gun to keep the crack together long enough to find a replacement clutch.

    Or you can just slip one bead in from one of the end (there’s a small opening) and slowly pull the beads that are out while pushing the bead slipped in. Continue slowly and carefully and all the beads will be placed in. But use it very carefully and slowly after

    When I pull out the clutch, it does not expose the teeth to put the bead-chain on. Can't pull it apart, and yet... the chain came out without breaking - it's a continuous chain, not a two-ended length. Can't figure out how the chain just came out, but the teeth cannot be exposed.

      Hi Figaro, We'd be happy to help you get the chain back on the clutch. Please email us some pictures of your clutch to service@fixmyblinds.com. We can give you some instructions that are specific to your part.

      Hi Mike, Thanks for your question. Roller shades use various types of mounting brackets. If you email us some pictures of your roller shade, we can let you know how to remove it from the brackets. Our email address is service@fixmyblinds.com.

    My shade does not stay up the clutch is loose it goes down to the floor. I have taken the clutch apart and everything looks fine Is there a way to repair?

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  Рік тому

      Hi Garrett - If the shade won't stay in the up position, it's time to replace the clutch mechanism. This video will help you determine which clutch your shade uses: ua-cam.com/video/73Tt4pYAfMY/v-deo.html.

      @@fixmyblinds Thank you, I actually took it all apart and I noticed the spring was out a little bit so I pushed the spring back in and put it back together and it is working again 😃👍
      If the problem happens again I will replace it. But I think what happened is my son was impatient and it was jammed and he pulled too hard.

    What if no matter where you cut the bead link hits the gear before the shade is fully lowered? I can't find a solution for that issue...

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  3 роки тому

      Hi Alexander,
      That does happen sometimes. When that happens it's typically because the bead chain isn't long enough for the shade. There are two solutions for that issue.
      1. Install a longer bead chain so you have enough chain to fully lower the shade before the connector reaches the clutch.
      2. Install a continuous bead chain loop.
      If you have a rollease clutch you will be able to use size 10 chain here: fixmyblinds.com/collections/bead-chain-size-10

      @@fixmyblinds Hi. The whole idea here was to shorten the chain so I can install the tensioner inside the window so it isn't just sliding around on the wall... So the only option is to buy a shorter continuous chain? That also means a new tensioner then since it is not removeable without either breaking the chain or the tensioner... Sigh...

    Some window repair people took my curtains Dow and when they put them back up the beads were off the runner the the string doesn't come apart and the cover won't come off for ma to just put it back over and I don't know how to fix it

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  5 років тому

      Nicole, to correct this, take the blind down out of the window and remove the clutch from the tube. Then you'll be able to put the chain back onto the clutch gear. If you need further help, please contact us at service@fixmyblinds.com. We're here to help!

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  3 роки тому

      There's no way to replace the bead chain without taking the shade down and removing the clutch mechanism from the tube.

  • @paulshuttleworth2850

    great video but can you show me how to reduce the length of chain to avoid grandchildren reaching it. thanks Paul

    • @fixmyblinds
      @fixmyblinds  8 років тому +1

      +Paul Shuttleworth
      Thanks for the question Paul. This type of roller shade uses the type of bead chain that is connected together with a connector. Since it has a connector, the chain has to be nearly as long as the shade in order for you to get the full range of travel. There are some child safety hold downs that cause the shade to not operate if the hold down comes unattached from the wall. It still does not provide a loop-free environment for small children and pets. The only really safe bet would be to buy and install a very short continuous chain that is small enough to prevent a small head from getting inside the loop, or buy a new shade that is the cordless/chainless variety.
