12,000 previous views, the Morgan Horse is the hallmark of versatility and truly is, America's First Breed. Celebrate over 200 years of history and heritage of the versatile Morgan Horse.
I was raised on a small farm with work stock. When I became a man I set up my own farm and wanted a Morgan horse, but never found one I could afford so I went with Quarter horses. Now 45 years later I still like the looks and history of the Morgan, they are just beyond my class. The Quarter horses have served me well.
What can a Morgan do? Everything! I grew up showing Morgans and loved it. The show ring is only one place a Morgan can shine, they are excellent trail horses as well. I showed my first horse Rio I the Hunter division, over fences, English pleasure and western. When Rio retired from the show ring we started competing in extreme trail. He absolutely loved it and was so good at it he even beat all if the police horses. He loved trail riding too so we traveled all over from MN to Illinois, Nebraska, the Dakotas, and Wisconsin. Maybe even a few more places I'm forgetting. We had so many amazing adventures together. He is waiting for me on the other side now, may he rest in peace until we meet again. Fortunately I now have a new Morgan to continue living my dream with. Morgan Horses will bring you so much joy, if you are looking to buy a horse, lok for a Morgan! ❤❤❤❤
Could not agree more, we've owned, raised and competed with Morgans for 40 years, amazing minds, versatility and stamina. Certainly one of the best breeds on the planet.
I've been with Morgans all my life and I will be with them forever... They will always be my #1 breed even though I plan to train ASBs and Hackneys as well when I'm older. Most versatile breed there is (along with the Arabian) and no one can deny it. The best part is no matter what discipline I want to do I can do it on a morgan.
+Watch Out for the Meeps! My Morgan really likes hitting jump Rail so that it will come up and hit her in the face. I had to quit jumping her because I did not what her to get hurt.
I have a Morgan cross and he does all the things i ask of him. I love my Morgan!! His name is Rusty!! I use him n 4h English and western and I also do dressage with him! I just won intro b at the warren county Jr fair!! He's also abt 26 years old and my dad always rode him as a pleasure trail horse and Rusty is also half gaited!!
I had the amazing opportunity to work at Stone croft for a short time and got to meet the late great WC Stonecroft Masquerade.. he was 27 and very aged but we fell in love and for 3 months that I had him in my life I spoiled him every day with treats, grooming, changing his bucket twice a day cause he put his gross spit and half eaten grain in it 😂 and walking around so he could strut his stuff. 🤣 He was amazing.. for ever my heart horse. He passed in April of 2018 and I'll never get over him.. didn't get to know him in his prime but I got the chance to spoil him rotten for his last few months.. and right after he died I found out I was pregnant! How crazy is that? Forever in my heart ❤️
Not all horses can do this because its up to the horse but almost all Morgan Horses can do everything. I personally think when someone says a Quarter Horse can do all of this is because it is PART Morgan Horse. I LOVE Morgan Horses and they are the Best!!! Plus they are the first American Breed.
This particular video is just a snippet from a longer TV episode airing on HRTV (Dish, Cox Cable, AT&T U-Verse, Verizon Fios, Comcast) and in real time Internet broadcast at HRTV.com). In this Episode, Figure is clearly discussed in the opening. The Lippitt Morgan has its very own TV episode titled "The Lippitt Morgan - The Consummate Sport Horse", and has been airing on HRTV many times over the past year. As Lippitt owners, breeders and competitors, there is a valuable story here.
I'm trading 40 hours of work for an untrained yearling filly , she is a Peruvian paso /Morgan cross . I don't know if anyone have ever had these crosses before and if they like them. She gaits through the pasture like nothing I have ever seen before . Both parents are old foundation horses of both breeds
I had an old fashion style pinto morgan for 20 years. He lived well in to his 30's. Western , English, trails ,rescue, dressage, high end jumping he loved it all. He used to sulk and give you the glass eye if you didn't work with him .
As Morgan owners, breeders and competitors ourselves, we are keenly aware that the show segment is the smallest part of the market. The video is excerpted from our TV production which was underwritten by the AMHI to show the VERSATILITY of the Morgan horse, as demonstrated at the Grand Nationals. Many of the disciplines shown, jumping, carriage, trail, western, etc. translate and extrapolate well to non-competitive pleasure riding/driving activities for the non-competitor.
pretty sure i rode a palomino one of these for like a year...they are amazing ..very forward and lot of swag ..big hearts maybe not for a beginner though..not sure if he was ever ridden western ...big wide horse like a Cadillac but moved like an arab with that high tail
It was nice to see all the National caliber performers, but wasn't said was that many of those show horses go home to be trail ridden in the off season. There are many Morgans who have never seen a show ring, yet are winners in their endeavors. We use our Morgans as their ancestors were used, working cattle, trail riding and horse camping. True family horses, my Morgans love being around their humans.
The Modern morgan bears little resemblance to the original Lippit Morgan, who some of were gaited doing a form a single foot, but the breed was basically split into to sections the old stle Lippit and the "new" style "Arab" want to be pushed by the show people. and the old style Lippit is frowned upon and the gaiting discouraged, except for a few diehards who like the old stocky Morgans...It's too bad that one dominate section of breeders can spoil a good breed of horse. Yes we owned an old style Gaited Morgan, as we got into Foxtrotters, and he would gait with the best and was smooth...but there are very hard to find...
+Wilbur Finnigan You might enjoy an older TV episode we produced on the Lippitt Morgan as perhaps the consummate sport horse. You can find it at: ua-cam.com/video/2FpuGUVW9XU/v-deo.html
My mare is a Quarter/Morgan cross with a beautiful Morgan head and a Quarter body. Some Morgan is visible in her frame but mostly Quarter, stout body that is built like a tank. When tied, she almost always parks out.
Just bought our 2nd Morgan (when you have one...you want another). One is for Western Pleasure and Hunter Pleasure and Equitation...and the other is going to be shown in Classic Pleasure Saddle and Driving. You don't choose your Morgan...they choose you!
I got my first Morgan for my seventh birthday she was from the carriage line Charms Beauxkay was her name and 16 hands she stood. Best just to let her lead the trail cause she was the boss. My mom had a gelded black beauty Reese he stood 15/2 and when I got old enough she let me barrel race him and we won but her stallion Wrangler wore size 2 shoes and stood 15/3 he could out walk my big mare. Full blood papered Morgans all three were so Morgans will always be the best breed to me
The point was to show that Morgans excel at many different activities with proficiency, and this was demonstrated at the National Show. With our new Broadcast Agreement with HRTV, Morgans will figure prominently in the mix. Our production services are available to anyone who wants to promote their breed or interest to a global audience. If non-show Morgan owners want to do a production on their special interests, we are glad to help them achieve their goals.
@daveysbaby23 We realize that competitive showing is the smallest part of the equine owning world, but we used this event to show the broad versatility of the Morgan breed for many different activities. Many of these same horses go home and do trail rides, cross country, and carriage driving with family and friends as a leisure activity. 98% of the year, our Morgans are "non-show" Morgans doing it all at home, just for the fun of it. Morgans are thinkers, they have a special mind.
Morgans can also be multi gaited, meaning "some" Morgans have intermediate gaits like the running walk or rack. to see videos check out our website at Missouri Morgans or just email me. Beauty, brains AND gait!
Very nice video, but there needs to be a LOT more visibility of the non-show Morgan. The show people make up a very small portion of Morgan owners. How about showing all of the other things our gorgeous Morgans are used for, other than show. This video almost gives the impression than Morgans are used primarily for showing and that is definitely NOT the case! People may even decide not to buy a Morgan simply because they don't want to show.
The one thing this doesn't quite state is that you can do several of these things with the SAME Morgan Horse - you don't have to have a stable full for the different activities, because Morgans have individual versatility and one Morgan can do many things well, as long as the owner can keep up! ;-)
@Equestrian08 Oh I know how you feel. Where I live its dominated by Quarter Horses to and my friend took my trainers Grand Champion mare to an open show and she got last when she had a flawless ride. The other people were yanking on there horses mouth, getting the wrong lead, and so much more stuff. And good luck trying to get more Morgans down there!!! I hope you do!
Shame you neglected to include trail horse. A horse that can confidently go out alone or in a group on a trail is an incredibly valuable horse. I did not see endurance riding, ranch or farm work or dragging and pulling either. Every clip you included is in one way or another a 'show' event. This breed is far from being so limited that they exist purely for some type of show event. There is nothing this breed can't do, in a show ring or the working world.
I believe you missed the point in that it clearly states in the video that the versatility of the Morgan horse was demonstrated at their National Show. Obviously some things were not included due to class scheduling conflicts and the fact that activities filmed were limited to what was presented at the show. Obviously we would have liked to cover even more activities in the field but their budget did not room for additional activities and filed competitions. Obviously we would have enjoyed capturing Morgans at the Tevas event, combined driving selection trials in Florida, etc, but their budget limited it to the show in Oklahoma City. The wide range of competitive activities covered in the show clearly shows the viewer that the Morgan is a capable breed, and is not limited to a handful of disciplines.
I watched this because I just stumbled across a lippett morgan that I was told he was a quarter so I can barrel race him. I'm so glad he's not going to be just a prancy pony.
just zenyatta I was pregnant and moving to Florida and I could only take one horse so I took my mare that I had for 4 years. Now he is with a woman that doesn't take care of him and I have been fighting for him back but I can't get him.
Saddleseat morgans have really ruined the breed though tbh. They're a shadow of their former selves as people bred them for poor conformation and ridiculous animation that runs their joints into the ground.
Within the breed, there are some bloodlines, such as the Lippitts which have maintained and preserved the original Morgan traits and characteristics. You can view them here at: ua-cam.com/video/2FpuGUVW9XU/v-deo.html
Descended from the Canadian horse, which is what Justin Morgan's stallion probably was. In the 1600s, when France still owned Quebec and most of Canada, the King of France sent his own specially, carefully bred horses over to Canada. They were sturdy, intelligent, dark coloured as in bay to black - and they were a breed specifically developed for the New World, ie everything from logging to hunting, racing, trotting and so on. That's the only explanation for Justin Morgan's stallion, a horse that just appeared at a sale - being so prepotent, plus matching the description of the Canadian Horse of Quebec. They already were a breed. Now however, they're being turned into American Saddlebreds; this isnt what a Morgan/Canadian horse should look like.
You can still find that original Morgan type in Lippitt Morgan bloodlines. You might enjoy our episode on these bloodlines. ua-cam.com/video/2FpuGUVW9XU/v-deo.html
I love my Morgan! But a lot of the Morgan horses in this video I don't like the look of...Morgans are supposed to be compact, short-legged sturdy-looking horses, not long-legged arabian-types. :I So much of the original, classic looks are dying out. It might as well be a dying breed if people continue to breed it to look like an arabian or a walker!
Park Saddle one of several saddleseat divisions at Morgan shows. Park horses are the most animated of all the saddleseat horses, followed by English Pleasure, and the Classic Pleasure, which are the least showy.
You should have mad a shorter video by making the title What Cant A Morgan Do?..would have been alot faster ;) like if you agree .. I have a morgan Best thing I EVER purchased.
It should be called what can't a morgan do and then just be a black screen for like 3mins.
I just bought a Morgan horse. He has the best gate ever. Even when he takes off real fast it is very smooth. Best ride I ever had in my life!
The Morgan Horse is the best. If I could have a Horse again it would definitely be a Morgan.
I had a Morgan when I was a teenager--best horse I ever had. Miss him terribly--sleep well Buster, see 'ya when I get there.

*What, No Endurance or Log Pulling? This breed really does absolutely everything!*
and morgan can do really what ever the owner wants
+Winter Breyers they did not mention barrel racing in this video wouder if it could run barrels if properly trained .

+Amazon Princess I barrel raced my morgan
@@caitlinhargreaves145 woohoo!
A Morgan can do anything you need him to do and they are so comfortable riding bareback with the smooth gate they have!!❤

Yes, and the Morgan's are better than Arabs for jumping because Arabs tend to jump more like deer, while Morgan's have rounder form.

How amazing!!!

Take a look at Lippitt Morgans, you won't be disapppointed.

+SunnyReflector my Morgan is the daughter of a national champion show Morgan but she would rather run games all day. Lol
just zenyatta ah i wish I still had my boy! He loved to run
+SunnyReflector what happened to him?
just zenyatta I was pregnant and moving to Florida and I could only take one horse so I took my mare that I had for 4 years. Now he is with a woman that doesn't take care of him and I have been fighting for him back but I can't get him.
I've never seen some of those events. How does the Morgan do with mounted martial arts?
Q; Is there anything a Morgan can't do?
A; Nope!
morgans are the best breed ever!!!!!!!!!!
👏👏👏
2nd video I've seen on Morgans and STILL no mention of the Lippitt or original Morgan.
Morgan owners UNITE XD I love seeing all the Morgan adoration here :D :D :D
The Beutiful Horse of the World! Forget QHorse ;-))
Morgans are the BEEEEST horses EVER!!! My pony can do all of this... beacuse hes a morgan

i see my horse sardes sinful at 0:17 on the rail with matrix passing him
and at 0:11 in the park harness square, thats my stallion toro :)
What can a Morgan do? Everything,
Could not agree more, have owned, bred and competed with Morgans for 30 years. An amazing breed.
Yeah i've ridden one of the arab types they are still pretty good though :) Prob more even tempered than an arab.
the part where there doing park saddle the horses are not morgans there tennesse walking horses
+Winter Breyers These classes are from the Morgan Grand National Show, and there are no Tennessee Walking Horses in this show.
Winter Breyers no they werent😒
Winter Breyers they were Morgan's.. those horses were not baiting they were picking up the their feet
They looked like Morgan's to me! You're stupid!
what is park saddle is that another name for saddle seat
It is another name for IDIOCY, with people who do cruel and unnatural things to their horses to get them to move in extreme and unnatural ways.
Park Saddle one of several saddleseat divisions at Morgan shows. Park horses are the most animated of all the saddleseat horses, followed by English Pleasure, and the Classic Pleasure, which are the least showy.
