- Open AI just announced their new LLM ChatGPT 4o. Along with this launch they announced a new MacOS desktop version that Apple is making incredibly easy to use. They're getting close to finalizing their deal and it's a lot more integrated than we ever could have imagined. The new features are incredible.

This tells us nothing. Nothing ChatGPT does is processed using local AI acceleration, it's all processed on OpenAI servers. My android phone has more NPU's(Apple lingo: Neural Engine Cores) than the A17 Pro.
Nothing lol, those were all old iPhones, only the new iPhones 16 and later will have the new NPU cores.

Apple out of nowhere comes with their own silicon chip M series which are still far more powerful than most chips on the market, while Android is still running snapdragon mobile chipd on their tablets, Apple is already 4 generations in with their ipad, Siri was way ahead of its time despite her sucking ass now, Apple has always been leaders in some areas, it's only natural to assume they cn since they have proven it

That's a good point. Or at least a good theory. I'm a big Apple supporter, but if Apple gave MS or OpenAI access to internal iPhone data, by default, I would be surprised and disappointed. I think Apple could provide ChatGPT as a way to interact with the outside world, but could still have its own AI which has exclusive access to the private parts of your iPhone, like your data and your apps. Two AIs in the same device? That could be disappointing to some people. But I think it's the safest solution.
Microsoft actually doesn't own OpenAI or have any control of them, they just get a cut of the for-profit part of their business.
@@AndrewSouthworth Yeah, they have zero say or control, limited partner, but also with exclusive rights to run GPT, so that is why the deal with Apple is most like just an APP, not a partnership. Do people think if MS had any say you would have seen all the Apple products in the demo? or the fact Microsoft is actually making its own AI to compete with OpenAI...and it's really good. MS and OpenAI are frenemies, the will compete head to head. Apple needs to clarify this, or people will run with it.
I finally got the desktop app, and it is pretty cool 😎
However, I also got confused/fooled that the new Voice Mode was available via the iOS app, but it turns out that will probably take weeks to roll out, and what is there is the old voice mode - less immediate, can not sing, less natural without “ums” and pauses, etc. I did not realize it initially because I never used this old voice mode before - it is actually very good, but I confirmed it is not the 4o integrated audio with low latency, hands free interruption (old version requires you to “tap to interrupt”), and more natural conversational speech (I guess flirty too 🤪)
Where did you get the desktop app from? Is it on the Apple Store? I don't see it there.
@@KaiWenFranklin I got it yesterday. When you log into chatGPT website, a notification pops up and you download it.
It's cool and all, but is the same as using the web, no new features yet.
And it has some bugs yet to be fixed, I hope.

I liked how they used a iPhone 13 mini to show the GPT is still capable on “older” devices
Theres no reason why it wouldnt work on older devices, its all processed on OpenAI servers which is why they used a hard ethernet data connection so there is less latency for the demo
The current ChatGPT voice assistant does the leading questions too. I tested it with my kids and it was good at keeping them going.

I immediately rewatched Her too 😂 And I noticed the same conversational features as surprisingly impressive and useful.
Testing since the openai announcement, the updated openai app on my iphone will have 4o chat with you right now about what the iphone camera is seeing. I asked it if it could do things on the phone right now like entering calendar items or reminders and it said no, but it could instruct me how to do those things. So the whole thing isn't turned on yet, but with a mac app being promised to roll out soon to chatgpt plus users like me, openai certainly seems pointed at the apple ecosystem. On a separate subject, if the deal does come to fruition, can you imagine what a great interface 4o would be for an apple vision pro?

What I hope to see is Apple streamlining it and running it on device. That would be the ultimate use case.

Your data is also kinda paying for a better product. I used to use 100% Google and gave all my data because it’s useful for me too. Apps become amazing. I only switched because they always kill the best apps!

Sadly ChatGPT4o will not be in place of Siri, ChatGPT will just be the app, it might work together with the new AppleAI, Apple is building their own, some of it is ready and will work with our private information. You will use ChatGPT for generative features, vision, etc.. Think of it as having multiple assistants at the ready. A special Gemini integration might also be included. If it works...big if, we might have the best of all AI in one package.

They released for the Apple Mac because Microsoft already has Co-Pilot in 11 and Office suite. Why release something to compete with that.
Apple will put the Gpt Functionality accesible through openai for standard models and onboard llms on Pro models. Pro models price will be dramatically increased as a result .
This is true, but the chatGPT4o will also be on the new pro models too, the AI will work together because Apples AI still does not do much generative AI like outputting images, writing songs, visual features, chat features...ChatGPT and Gemini will handle those if you need it. I think it could pretty amazing having multiple agents doing multiple things. Apples own AI will do most of the private and secure features with your data on device for many models, the new ones get bells and whistles beyond the older models. You can chose to open up your privacy and allow ChatGPT to handle more. It all sounds interesting, and complicated. LOL

Microsoft OpenAI is not the only partnership. On top of having Apple own new AI / machine learning (Ajax, bobcat, AC/DC), Microsoft Open AI, Apple also in talk with Google to have Gemini, and with these three AI engines to power up new Siri. I can’t wait for WWDC!

Ok, why would anyone pay ChatGPT Plus now then?
On Apple: paid to whom? Do you have it on Apple when you pay OpenAi Plus? Or do you have to pay Apple? For 20 Dollar I would add an AI app to my Apple device, when I can use it for free on Android on PC.
If Apple can solve my Mail overload issues with AiOs I’ll be very happy. I’ve tried filters, special programs and services, unsubscribing groups, archiving. Please just analyze all my mailboxes and then make bite size 10-20 minutes daily summarize, group, batch triage.
GPT does not “learn” from you. A session can build context but outside of that session it will not remember your preferences or requests.

I didn't catch that! So it is extremely possible that OpenAI will use the secure on device chip for certain information like apps use now with FaceID etc.. That will be great.

The whole "we're just prioritizing where our users are." is a pretty tone deaf play considering what happened with the Apple Vision Pro. Partnering up with the company that made a $3.5k paper weight for rich people is a bold move. Guess it's their only move as Google owns the Android market, but at least make the desktop app for Windows so people don't immediately hate you.

I’m also curious about Apple M4 chip compare to Nvidia chips, the leading AI chipmaker. Nobody ever seems to be mentioning this. I guess we don’t want to relieve the Apple versus Intel specs battle ofthe past.
One significant advantage of using Apple Silicon for running LLMs is the handling of VRAM/RAM limitations. Unlike GPUs such as the RTX 4090, which are limited to 24GB of VRAM, Apple Silicon can utilize system RAM for these tasks. This means that if you have an M-series Mac with 128GB of RAM, you'll be able to handle much larger models compared to the 24GB VRAM limit on an RTX 4090. This is particularly beneficial since LLMs are highly memory-dependent.
Llama3 7B model runs amazingly fast on a basic M2 chip, and fast on a basic M1. You need nvidia to train these models, but not necessarily to run them.
Fair Point but most of us are remotely using NVIDA chips in the cloud or on a server we built while we sit back on our Macs
This entire time Apple has been quiet about AI, I thought they mentioned they were working on something big behind the scenes. Turned out it was just a partnership like everyone else.

ChatGPT will do a ton, answer questions, chat, sing, generate pictures text etc... You hit it, they are going to have ChatGPT4o plus the new AppleAI maybe even Gemini....3 AI agents possibly even talking to each other could be insanely good! But people will be disappointed to hear it's not fully replacing Siri, no Siri is being replaced by whatever Apple is working on. No worries, it's not replacing Apple AI, Apple is replacing Siri with a dang amazing AI, on device for the new devices, on device for many of the older devices but just not as amazing or feature rich, and they still will have cloud requests with their own AI like now.. Open AI will be the app, so if you want to allow it, just as you can allow Facebook or TikTok it's your choice but you can be 100% secure to know Apple is not using OpenAI for most of the AI features involving your address book, iMessages, calendar, documents. Same as it always was, I allow other apps to see my docs, or my photos...but you don't have to, It's just the app, but it will be closely integrated, trust me it's not replacing Apples AI at all.
Also Microsoft has zero say or access to OpenAI, just using chatGPT as the engine for its current AI, plus profits from them, but they too are building their own AI.
You really shouldn’t make an educated guess and state it in the video title as a fact. Even clickbait-y titles usually phrase things like that as a question. I’m not a minute into the video and you already acknowledged it was recorded before they made any announcement or had any confirmation whatsoever but you give it a name Siri Pro as though to imply a subscription model and everything? Apple wasted a lot of cash on the “Apple Car”, instead of partnering with an existing EV maker, wonder how much money they wasted on this endeavor that they decided to end. Someone should have been fired over that. They could have used that money to work on innovating their current products and hopefully make them cheaper but not likely because Apple’s corporate greed model doesn’t allow for reasonable pricing i.e., charging $200/memory upgrade (outrageous). There’s a difference between making a profit which all companies are in business to do and corporate greed, the latter of which is the reason Apple has so much extra cash to burn, waste, throw away.

Also, the vast majority of people using AI models are on PC not Mac. I doubt if a large part of the Mac userbase even knows how these models even work.

GPT 4o needs to be offered at a lower price !! Currently you pay as a private person or Freelancer the same user fee as a big company. That's unfair ! About 20 Dollars+ per month must come down to 10 USD or Euros for normal Users or Freelancers !!!
